I just recieved the G4 Cube from Flyinace2000, MR member of vast integrity and great packing skills.
I want to try to put a new hard drive in it before I boot it up to see if that will help things.
Where would I find a photo guide for Cubes and switching the HD?
I want to replace the hard drive of a rev A g5 imac and I see that currently it has a sata 1.5gb/s hard drive. Could I get away with getting a 3.0gb/s or is it incompatible? Specifically this one:[URL]
PS- I'm trying to find an enclosure that is firewire but will allow me to hook up the sata drive i take out. Do they really exist? I'm having the most difficult time.
we changed the hard drive in my friends G3 800 but now when you turn it on nothing comes up on the screen. It will act like it starting up, read the cd a little than sit idle.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a used cube from a local computer shop. It was abandoned by its owner. I saw the computer running last week when it was in the shop. I went to pick it up today and got it home. I can't get it to power on. The power "button" pulses when I push it but nothing happens. The ACD display that it came with gets power. I have tried reseating ram, reseating the DC to DC board and the graphics card riser.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have two macs(one is macbook, another one is G4 cube). On my G4 Cube OS 9.2 is running and it is up to date. (last firmware update installed) I want to install mac os x tiger on it but i can not. I tried almost everything but i couldn't install yet.
Firstly I downloaded tiger.dmg and burned into a dvd, then inserted to the Cube. It can read the DVD but couldn't run the tiger dmg file. so i could not install in this way.
Then i connect the macbook to my Cube via firewire and I inserted the installation dvd to the macbook but the result was same. cube can read the DVD but couldn't run the tiger dmg file.
Then I changed the host and target. I saw G4's harddisk as an external harddisk on my macbook's screen and i found the OSInstall.mpkg after I mounted Tiger dmg file on desktop. I choosed as installation destination G4's harddisk and installed the tiger on it. Then i open the Cube and I opened startup disc on os9 to choose os x as startup system. Though Tiger's system files are on the G4's harddisk there is no choise as os x in the startup disc menu so i couldn't start tiger.
What can i do for install the tiger on my Cube?
Just wanting to know for a friend if the stock 8x AGP card from my G5 Powermac would work in a G4 Cube? I didn't think it would but does anyone know for sure?

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust got a cube and a 17" ADC studio monitor off ebay from different sellers and there is a problem with one of them... when i connect everything and I switch everything on the cube turns on and automatically switches the monitor on but I get no picture. I get the tune that the thing started up but no picture at all
i tried the cube with a very old compaq monitor i had running around that uses vga and still no picture...
I guess it is the cube that is the bad thing... Am I guessing right?

My PowerBook G4 (Alum) died. I've had it for 4 years, taken it with me to Alaska and all over the lower 48, and have had nothing but happy experiences. I knew she was gonna go, but I was hoping she'd hold on until I could afford a MacBook. Alas, no. The problem appears to be the ability of the logic board to communicate with the hard drive. I can hear the HD spin, but even with Disk Warrior, I cannot locate it. The Mac Geniuses at my local Apple store confirmed this and gave me a shoulder to cry on. I've run Disk Warrior, Disk Utility, and tried finding it using the target disk mode - no luck.
The problem is that I've got 4 years of teaching materials, 6000 songs, and irreplaceable pictures on the HD, so I can't bring myself to just trash it. It's true that you only fail to back up you stuff once. This is my once. I've heard that with PC hard drives, you can just drop the old HD into a USB HD box and use it as an external HD. I can't afford professional data retrevial, and I want to give this option a try if it'll work with a Mac HD. Any ideas or suggestions?
I'm looking to replace my current failing speakers and I'm thinking of getting the old Apple Pro Speakers (with that fancy connector) or the USB ones that came with the G4 Cube. Griffin had their PowerWave thing a while ago that could amplify the USB speakers because the USB port didn't have enough juice to power the speakers like it did on the Cube. My question is, does anyone know of an alternative USB amplifier that could get the job done? Or a way to convert the Apple Pro Speakers into a usable form? I have the unibody MacBook, is this even an issue anymore, or are the USB ports the same power as the Cube's?

It wont let me install this program from my new, second hard drive because the message i get is that it supposed to launch from the primary or running hard drive. My readings indicate if the optical drive is to be set to Master , then the Hard disk needs to be set to slave. Changing the optical to slave seems very difficult, so, How do I set the hDD jumpers to slave instead. I presume they exist? my hard drive name when in os x, appears as default Macinstosh HD, however when i startup and hold option to select Mac or windows. the name is what i named the cloned image (which is 'mac clone'), was wondering if there's a way to change this? not really a big deal if not, just being OCD.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having some trouble changing my hard disk's icon... I can't select it in Get Info to paste in a new icon. It happened randomly after I pasted in one icon, subsequently I couldn't select the icon again...
I have tried repairing permissions and my disk (just via Apple's Disk Utility) and that did absolutely nothing.
I haven't tried changing it over Target Disk Mode and for all I know that might work... but I would kind of like to be able to change my icon without turning off my computer.
I remember in OS 9 you had to make sure File Sharing on the disk was off before you were allowed to modify the icon. I'm aware that that's not how it works in OS X but I tried it for good measure anyway to no avail.
I'm running 10.4.6 on a MacBook Pro 2 GHz. The drive whose icon I'm trying to change is my Startup Disk. I have ~10GB/100GB free on it.
I recently installed the whole Boot Camp deal and (obviously) had to repartition my disk. Afterwards my Mac HD was unaccessible until I ran Disk Utility off my install CD to repair it. Although this icon problem cropped up about a week after the install, I suppose it's possible that it could be related. Interestingly enough, I'm having no problems changing my Windows partition's icon.
I will probably buy a Imac g5 duo core (not new), but the poblem is that the hard drive is only 160 gb ... I want to put a bigger hard drive in it because i want to install boot camp (os x + windows) on it and have space to work on both (os x and windows).
