OS X :: Two Versions Of XP And Mac?

Mar 16, 2009

As the title says, I have started to think that I will need two versions of XP if i want to use bootcamp, as well as Parallels/VMWare Fussion. After originally buying my iMac, and installing XP SP2 through bootcamp i was chuffed that it all worked as it should (maybe i was just soo used to windows being rubbishy). then trying to install vmware (cant remember, september was when i did it) it had faffed around and then installed. but when booting into windows (this is without reinstalling windows again, ie using the bootcamp partition) windows came up saying that it was different hardware and that it needed to reregister and, upon closing the first multiboot and trying again is failed and just never worked. does this mean that if indeed i buy parallels/vmware (still dont know) i need to install that first, and then do another installation of windows? was it just coincidence that it messed up? have the new version fixed all this?

Jul 4, 2008

10.6 will be Snow Leopard? There are only 2 big cat names left (Lion and Cougar) but 3 more versions of OS X to go. If 10.7 is Lion and 10.8 is Cougar what will Apple name 10.9 if there are no more names to use?

MacBook Pro :: Already Has Applecare?

Sep 30, 2009

apple replaced my SR mbp with a new unibody model after a series of breaks (which was awesome). Anyway, they told us to buy applecare, and since we were getting a brand new laptop we kind of had to say yes, so we bought it. Then when I got home and actually tried to apply it, it said it already had applecare. So I looked up the serial and it's covered until sep 2012, 3 years. So did I just get free applecare or did it just automatically apply because they were on the same receipt?

OS X :: How To Dual Boot 2 Versions

Sep 6, 2010

I have an iMac G3 and Mac OS X Cheetah. The machine came with Panther and OS9 (on the same partition). However I have an OSX 10.0 (for blast to the past needs) disc laying around here. I don't have the Panther disc so I don't want to delete anything Mac OS X-related. I know that I should probably delete Mac OS 9 to save HD space. But can I just install 10.0 on the same partition and select it from Startup Disk?

Applications :: Versions SVN Client For Mac?

when I was out trying to set up a development environment on my Mac. (SVN, Bug Tracking, etc.)

It's called Versions, and it's still in beta, but it seems really stable, and it's one of the best SVN clients I've ever used. I have no affiliation with the company or product at all, so this isn't a plug. I've just been using it constantly to manage some Xcode projects and a few other important documents between Macs, and I thought I'd share.

X V10.5 Leopard :: Install Two Versions Of Mac OS?

Mar 19, 2012

I am needing to install Tiger alongside Leopard on my computer. I have heard that if I install Tiger on the same HD as Leopard I will have to partition the HD. That would be an enormous pain since I would have to first erase my HD. Would it be ok to just install Tiger on a USB drive? I am only going to use a small amount of space since I will only need to install the OS and a few images files.

PowerPC :: Powerbook And Applecare ?

Jul 27, 2008

About a month ago my Powerbook g4 quit recognizing the power adapter. I had an after market adapter that was kind of beat up, but the proper voltage was still reaching the pin. I ended up sending my notebook to apple to fix under the protection plan. All they did was replace my battery and send it back. That was fine and dandy as i was able to use my computer until the battery died. I decided maybe it was my adapter so i ordered a new after market adapter. Still a no go. Sent my computer back to Apple. This time they replaced the logic board. It still doesn't work. Could it be that my adapter (the brand new one) is bad? Or is there still something wrong with my laptop? Every time I call apple they want me to go to an Apple Store, but unfortunately the closest one is like an hour away. Should I send this thing back for a third time?

Applications :: AppleCare Not Available - Take Screenshot?

Feb 16, 2009

I don't know how to take a screenshot, or I would. I just tried to register my AppleCare (which I bought from the Apple Store the same day I bought my MacBook) and when I click "submit" I get a message telling me the product I'm trying to use is unavailable in my location (which I know for a fact isn't the case - I live in NC, not on Mars). Has anyone else ever seen this happen? I printed the screen to a PDF so when I go to the Apple Store tomorrow they don't think I'm nuts. I know there's no problem with what I bought, and I know I'll get it taken care of in the morning, but it's a bit annoying and I was curious to see if others had had this happen. Also - hope I posted this in the right thread, or at least something close to correct.

Applications :: No Compatibility Between IWork Versions?

I found that I could do this, but it would not open any iWork '09 files, so I had to buy iwork '09 anyway as I had done so much work with it. I got caught out I think! Did anyone else find this too?

Applications :: Can I Have Two Versions Of ITunes At The Same Time

Jan 23, 2010

I once accomplished this before on my old iMac G3 because I had two installations of OS X running on seperate partitions. I was able to run either version when ever I wanted. I want to do this again, but not have to have two OS X installs. Here's my reasoning I need iTunes 9 to sync my iPod because I have a touch, however I hate the bloat and would like to use iTunes 3 or 4 for just casual MP3 listening. I tried using Pacifist but iTunes 3 refuses to run. Was it my method or is it something to do with iTunes 3 not liking Leopard?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Switch Off Versions In Safari?

Apr 10, 2012

I'm trying to switch off 'Versions' in Safari on my mother's MacBook Pro because she's frustrated that Safari doesn't open on her homepage every time she launches it but instead re-opens the windows / tabs from her last session.

Does anyone know how to launch the alert box that lets you untick the option for Safari to 'remember' your windows / tabs from your last session?

(I even tried shutting down to see if the alert box would appear but it didn't.)

Just FYI - solutions I've already suggested to her are:

• Close all open tabs and windows before quitting Safari - so it *opens to her homepage on launch, (*she insists that doesn't always work though. Has anyone here experienced that?)

• Alternatively, open Safari Preferences and choose to make each new tab open on her homepage as well as new windows, (but she doesn't want to do that.)

App Store :: Using Not Actual Versions Of Software

Apr 30, 2012

I am trying to understand the concept of the app store. Generally I am not very fond of purchasing apps this way. Not having much experience yet. My biggest concern:

What if I need an older version of an app. I always only see the actual version in the store.

For example: I will certainly stay on Snow Leopard for a long time. More and more apps require at least Lion. Once, lets say in 5 years, when I may need to make a new install of all my things (still 10.6.8 tough) how can I be sure to be able to still get the software I always used, in a version that works in 10.6.8?

I always have copies of apps I use. But in 5 years, will I be able to load it onto a new installed 10.6.8 Mac and run it? Would it only run after App Store confirmed I have actually bought it? Will it confirm a software 5 years old or force me to download y new version?
