PowerPC :: Battery Only Charges To 46% - Reset / Eliminate / Change?
May 21, 2008
I bought a replacement battery for my 15" PB Titanium, and after the initial charge (when it reached 94%), it now only reached 46%. I have discarded the preference files that look like they pertain to the battery, but it still only charges to 46%. Anything else I need to do/reset/eliminate/change?

I have a 12' iBook G4 (1.33 ghz) that took a tumble and the power connector snapped off inside of it. I took it apart, popped out the broken bit from the dc-in board, and used it until the battery drained. It worked fine until then.I bought a new power cord, but it failed to charge the battery, and after searching through countless forums, I figured the problem was the dc-in board. I bought a replacement, and just installed it. Now, the battery indicator lights (the four green ones) are showing that it's charging up. It's on three right now. But the computer still won't power on. No fan noise, no other lights. I tried the PMU reset, but nothing. It's weird.

Bought in first week of release. I don't always leave it plugged in. I have followed all directions for calibration from the start. Is this within spec? The 97% figure comes from Mac's own battery monitor, and I haven't run any other battery-related software.

I've had my 11" ultimate for about 3 weeks. Its mostly used by the wife around the house so I never really noticed before that the battery never charges to 100%. I'll leave it plugged in overnight. Open it up and it tells me it charged, however as soon as I unplug the cord it reads 99%. Does anyone ever see 100%? I know it really has no bearing on battery life, which is great on this machine, but all my previous laptops have said 100% when fully charged?

I know it's a strange questions but my mother's powerbook G4 1.5ghz just suffered from the infamous lower ram slot failure and does not fall within the warranty extension program. However, she has VISA performance guarantee and if the repair is going to cost too much, they will most likely offer to replace the computer with a new equivalent one.
This particular issue, apparently, is not really fixable and people who have their logic boards replaced often experience the same problem again later down the road. Since VISA has a no lemon policy and will replace automatically after three repairs, I figure it's better to save my mother the considerable hassle of having to send it in on multiple occasions...
So: I'm I want to find the most expensive authorized apple repair shop. Any 'good' suggestions?

The title says it all. I have a new battery in my 2007 MacBook, but my computer still says it's at 237 cycles. Is there a way to reset the cycle count? It does say, however, the battery is at 100% health.

So last Sunday morning I was playing Xbox while having my MacBook playing music from iTunes. I unplugged the charger at about 30% battery life left and let it run pretty low (%3) when I grabbed my charger to plug it in and the light wouldn't come on. I tried numerous plug ins throughout the house that all worked and still no light. (Keep in mind that I live nowhere close to a Mac store, or even a computer shop that sells or knows anything about Macs) So later Sunday night I purchased an Apple charger which I received today (Thursday). So I plugged it in and it only shows a green light and I thought that was weird because the battery is dead.Â
I turn the computer on and I saw an "x" over the battery usually where it shows the charge or if it's charging. When I click on it it reads "No Battery Available" and then says under that "Power Source: Power Adapter". So I did a little research on the forums, google, and YouTube where it seemed the only response was doing an SMC reset. So I did that and held down for 20 seconds, started computer and it was the same. I also had it turned off and let it sit on the charger because I read that could possibly work, and it didn't. If I unplug the power adapter it just shuts the computer off. I just got this battery replaced 2-3 weeks ago from Apple and everything was fine. Â

I initially tried the normal System Preferences/ Users and Groups approach, unlocked the window, entered my existing password, entered my new password twice...got this...obviously I have edited the image to remove my name...
Recovery mode using Lion results in a very similar message, a box pops up, etc. No go .So I try to reset the Admin password to have a new Admin login which results in the "starting a new machine" screens, etc., so I can then change MY password, etc using this... Boot single user and enter rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone But the system reports it cannot find the file or directory. So I login as Administrator (I have this password) and using the GUI, the option to change MY password is not showing. So I login as root (I also have this password) and using the GUI, again, there is no option to change MY password. As I upgraded/App Store via the network I do not have a disk to boot from.I do have Time Machine backups, so the notion of restoring Apps and personal files and folders after a complete reinstall is not that hideous, though I have better things to do like most of you. But really, isn't there a way for me to change my password using the GUI?
Info:MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), cannot change my password, ever

my macbook pro mid 2010 is indicating that my battery needs to be serviced. Before I call Apple or take it to the Apple store I wanted to reset my smc. I've looked already on how to do it, but I'm not sure whether or not I have to unscrew my macbook pro and remove the battery or if I can perform the SMC reset without it.

When I run my macbook pros Battery down, there comes the low battery warning. After a while the system just goes down without suspending anything to my harddisk. When I restart my computer it does a normal start and after logging in I'm experiencing a lot messages due to the reset time. I correct my system-time and restart my mac and the system is back to normal.
Usually I'd say: Replace your CMOS-Battery (I know I have an EFI-Firmware), but where is it?. Or in other words: Is there a "System"-Battery, that would prevent my mac from forgetting the time?
Since I'm not running down my battery to 0 very often I only experience this issue from time to time and never took time to do anything about it.
iStats battery-Status says: Health:83%, Cycles:333, charge 50%...

All seems fine but when I try to change any settings it comes up with a password box which I obviously dont have and the guy I bought it from is not available. Its got Mac OS X v 10.6 operating system on it. Can anyone tell me how to reset the password without having the original DVD operating system disk.

I recently bought a cheap eMac which used to be a networked terminal at a university. I am hoping to do a clean reinstallation of Tiger but the computer seems to be tightly locked down. I am able to log in because I have a local username and password, but I do not have administrator privileges. There is also a firmware password so I am unable to boot from the installation DVD. When I insert the Tiger DVD, I am unable to restart the computer and start the installation because it requires administrator authentication. Is there any way to disable the firmware password and the admin password so I can basically remove everything and start with a fresh copy of Tiger?

I upgraded from my old 13" Uni macbook to the 13" pro and I have not been impressed with the battery power. I get about 4 hours with half brightness, wifi on and light web browsing. Yes, i have checked activity monitor, CPU hangs at like 5% the whole time...Does this sound right? Furthermore, the battery will charge from 5%-10% to fully charged in little more than hour, like 1:15..that seems like an awfully short time to fully charge such a big battery...
Coco Battery reports only 1-2% wear with just a few cycles. I have conditioned the battery to no effect.

If I have a half-full battery and adapter plugged in, the indicator light is green and a "not charging" is shown on the top bar in screen. And the power in the battery will decrease in a speed between 0 and battery-only.
If I use a empty battery and adapter plugged in wall, the computer can start and run a few seconds/minutes and it will shut down randomly. If I closed the screen, the indicator light will finally go amber and begin to charge. I change battery and megasafe and it is the same.
I feel the reason is my mother board is not able to aquire enough Watts from the megasafe to support its normal running. So it consumes power both from megasafe and battery.

Till about a day or two ago I use to get amazing battery performance out of the computer. I mean 8-9 hours without major issues. Now suddenly for the last couple of days the batter life after a fully charged battery shows up as 3 hours. I can't figure out why.
