I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with Macs, so I recently purchased a real cheap ibook G3 (the clamshell one), which came with no software on it but still has sound(?) Anyway, when I turn the laptop on, there is a startup sound, and then a little picture of a folder with a question mark on it. I leapt into action and bought a copy of OS X 10.0.3, which I assume is old enough to work (this machine is an ibook M2453 366mhz 320mb ram 9gb notebook), and I am not sure if that will even run anything like osx but I wanted to try. So I boot the laptop up, I get a little icon of an old mac and a little cd spinning in the upper left hand corner, it sounds like it is loading things from the cd, and nothing. I let it do that for almost an hour and nothing happened.
I have a PowerBook G4, 1.33 GHz, 512MB ram and I am having trouble installing leopard. I have backed up the hard drive and erased it for a clean install. Every time I go to install if freezes at "calculating estimated time remaining" and gives a kernel panic error. I am unable to check the panic log as the hard drive was erased. I have already repaired disk, reset pram etc.
I'm trying to install Windows on my brand new MBP using Bootcamp and I am hung up on a "No Bootable Device" error prior to installing Windows and after successful partitioning. I have updated everything I can think to update. The disk is a retail Windows XP with SP2. I have even tried reseating the battery. I can get back to OSX but would still like to install Windows rather than give up.
When I try to install iTunes 9 I get the following message: "System extension cannot be used. The system extention "/system/library/extensions/CDSDAudioCaptureSupport.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update". ITunes installs anyway - even if I leave the message there without clicking "OK". I have verified my disk and repaired the permissions - yet still pops up.
I have been trying to install Windows XP Pro SP3 on my MacBook, and after the installation finishes, I get an error saying that hal.dll can't be found. Really strange. Windows 7 installs fine, but I'd like to install XP for nostalgia's sake.
The disc is clean and I get no errors during install.
I'm a new MAC user and would need to install XP on my MAC. I'm sure there are thousands of threads out there about this but I couldn't find one. I've tried installing with Boot Camp and got Disk Error. Realised I had Service Pack One. The CPU then wouldn't boot properly as it looked for the WIN CD later so I have to hold down the Option key every time I boot up. I now have XP Pro with SP3 and have partitioned the space (20gb). Just don't want to mess it up so I'll wait for a reply here.
I installed Snow Leopard about a month ago. Ever since I installed it the Dictionary.app program doesn't work anymore. It tries to start up and then shut down and sends a report to apple (which they obviously don't do anything with it). So, I tried to reinstall the dictionary using Pasifist. After it unpacks the dictionary.app package it gives me two checksum errors. 1. Checksum for file
I get error code=4 installling Canon SX100 IS camera software to new iMac OS X Lion 10.7.3. Installation gets cancelled. Installation going ok till aborts and I got error 4 msg. Whazzup? What to do? My machine: 17" 2.33ghz mbp. After installing Snow Leopard, when trying to calibrate the screen it gets to the end and then reverts back to the ****** default snow leopard calibration and says: "An error occured. The new calibrated display profile could not be created or set to be the current profile for this display."also, i noticed they spelled "occured" wrong. It should be "occurred" no?any of you guys have this issue? and if so, how do we fix it?
So I've been trying all weekend to install windows 7 through boot camp. At first, due to a lack of dvds to burn the iso I have, I tried doing the whole usb thing. I got as far as the Legacy Loader screen and could not find a solution. Finally, after getting a couple of dvds I burned the iso and tried to go from there. At first I just got a completely black screen every time I tried to boot from the cd. I tried a lot of the fixed on this forum as well as countless others through which I looked. I reset the PRAM, shut off the computer and disconnected everything including the power plug, waited a while and then restarted, changed the resolution to 800x600. Well eventually I got to the point where I got the black screen but with a blinking cursor.
I waited about 5 minutes and got the this msg: Windows encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. File: BootBCD Status: 0xc000000e9 info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred Waited like 15 minutes to see if anything happens but nothing. They teased me by telling me that if I pressed enter I could continue but in fact nothing happened. I know the dvd works because I tried it on a laptop running windows and when I popped in the dvd the install menu came up.
I'm trying to install Photoshop 5, and a message pops up saying "You can't open the application Install Photoshop because the Classic environment is no longer supported." What can I do??

I get a -5000 access denied error every time I try to install Canoscan driver software. I tried repairing permissions, rebooted etc. It still happens. I cannot scan.
I logged onto my iMac today and checked for any updates. I found updates for iPhoto, Thunderbolt, Airport and I think Safari. After it downloaded the updates and installed them, it wanted to reboot. Upon clicking ok, it went to a grey screen while initializing the updates, or something to that effect. Then it said an unknown error occurred and press ok to reboot. I presses ok but nothing happened, the box disappeared and the blank grey screen remained.
So I rebooted and the logon screen came up. I put my password in, which was accepted and the iMac moved on to blank grey screen with the darker grey Apple symbol in the middle and the the 'thinking' wheel doing its little circling thing just below that. It's sits there like that and doesn't move to the desktop screen. I've tried rebooting but it stalls at the same point. It's running the latest version of X. It didn't come with any disks and I don't have Time Machine.

I keep getting the following error 3 quarters of the way:
STOP: C000021A "Fatal system error. The windows subsystem process terminated un expectedly w/ a status of OX C000005. System shut down. It's a blue screen with white letter.
I'm using Office XP Service Pack 2 with imac OSX Install DVD version 10.6.3.
The steps I'm taking are:
Log onto my mac and use pre installed bootcamp to partition the drive. I'm using 32GB of space. Then I use my xp Prof w/ service pack 2 cd to install xp. At this time everything is working fine except for the missing drives. Then I put the bootcamp cd that came with my imac into the iMac and run bootcamp. It looks like everything is working perfectly. The imac is finding wireless internet and all the drives look like they are working fine until out of no where a blue screen pops up and states what I wrote below. There is nothing else on the screen. I'm using a 27 inch imac that i bought about 5 weeks ago new.
i recently got a used tray loading iMac G3 with a wiped hard drive. When I boot from the OS 9 CD and try to install OS 9, I get errors telling me to update the firmware, but when I try to update the firmware, I get errors saying that it can't install anything because the CD is a locked volume and I can't boot from the hard drive. Is there a way to install OS 9 on this machine?
I have a PowerBook G4 which failed me a couple of months ago. The screen would just freeze. Recently, I've managed to wipe the hard disk and wanted to do a clean install using the restore disk provided but it keeps hanging mid way (installation wouldn't complete).
I remember hearing about it on a website, is there any rough tutorials to go about this? Don't ask me why I want to do it, my friend said it can't be done, and I just want to show him up. he also thinks macs are dumb, so hes not so smart in the brain.
Im'e trying to install the o/s on a G4 with a clean hard drive the drive's been wiped of data and that's all It has not been formatted The screen says select destination volume but is greyed out i can't select anything Is the problem the fact that the hard drive is not formatted This is my first mac so don't know what to do.
I just picked up an imac G3 system, its kind of a bluish green. has os8.6 and i would like to install Linux on it, can anyone help me with this? im certain if i can get the system to boot from the disc i can handle the rest myself, i have tried holding down C when starting and had no luck.
I have a 1.33gh 14" ibook that Im selling so Im trying to reinstall leopard. so I put in the disk load it up everything is fine until it actually starts installing.. it gets about 10-20% and the says Install failed could not validate "Essentials" package. then I tried again and let it check the disc prior to installing and it tells me to clean disk from scatches and dust. i noticed there were a couple small scratches on the disk so i got another install disk but when i try to put it in, the ibook just spits it back out after a few seconds and i cannot load the installer with the new disk
I have an iBook G4 model number A1054 made in 2003 that I havent used ever since I bought a new laptop. I forgot my password years ago and I am not sure what has to be done first. I'm purchasing OSX panther complete installion discs because I want to update it and add more memory. If I buy the OSX software would I still need my password before being able to reinstall the new program?
