Was installing Mavericks on a mac book, 10.6.8. looked like it was installing fine, but then error code 8058.
Now I cannot restart, shutdown, look in finder...

I have two old files in my finder sidebar that I can't delete . I am running in Lion. when I restart in 10.6.8 they are gone. but when I go back to Lion, they are still there and I cannot move them to trash. I get error code 8058 when I try to move to trash. i have tried holding the command button, and I cannot find any list in the library that says com.apple.finder.plist.

" The error does not appear to happen all the time. It does seem consistent if I am transfering files and then try to transfer more.
The files I am transferring are .mp4. It does not appear to care about the size of the file, it happens with small files and large files, I can transfer some large folders (2.54G). I can connect the hard-drive externally directly to the mac mini and it will transfer any file.
I am receiving an error 5.5.4 "Invalid Email address error code 17099 indicating that mail could not be sent for Account name: "Msn".I have recently moved from a PC laptop and have been sent email messages to this account on my iMac successfully for several weeks. So i am having a problem with copying files onto my Iomega external HDD. Itunes films, other video files (GoPro format, etc.), music, basically anything that is not text or a picture (for the sake of this post, the movie Taken), begins to transfer and right about at the halfway point the message "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in "Taken.m4v" can't be read or written. (Error Code -36). I have trie dot_clean and several other solutions that i have read around the web but none of it seems to be working. I suppose it might also help to know that mz external drive is formatted as MS-DOS (FAT32). Strangely, i have gotten 2 files to transfer, an iMovie film that i made myself and one of the films in my itunes library. other than those two files, the only thing i have been able to transfer has been text documents and pictures.

I'm transferring my files from a slowly failing mid-2010 MBP to my new retina MBP and have encountered an issue with one of my files. I have two concert recordings (2gb each) that will not transfer onto my hard drive and keep giving me the "Error -36 some data cannot be read or written".i am able to preview the sound files and can listen to them all the way through with no problem, but when i open them in ableton the computer locks up (which is common and cannot necessarily be blamed on the file). I have tried to convert them to a different format using MAX but i get the same error message. I've tried renaming and changing permissions as well as airdrop but it all has the same result of getting this error message. i was able to drag the file into my dropbox folder but (to no sucessful upload) and drag it out, but im not able to copy ans paste it.
I've had no other issues transferring the recordings of the same nature (transferred to my computer just like these two during the same tour).
Is anybody else getting the error code 5002 while trying to rent a movie today? I have updated my billing info; reopened the iTunes -- to no avail.

I have a Late 09 15" MBP and a WD 1TB external HD. I've never had a problem until now. I start up the hard drive, then it loads up fine and the Mac recognizes it just fine. As soon as I try to copy something - doesn't matter how big it is - I get an error and at the end it says "(Error code - 36)". It just says the file cannot be read or written. Weird thing is I can access everything on the hard drive. Anyone have any tips before I try reformatting the HD?

I plugged in my external HD last night and was told I'd have to format. I moved all my data over to a larger disk during the night so as to clear it for this. I woke up this morning, did a spotlight search for Time Machine and got "An unexpected error occurred (Error Code -43). I then, in my half asleep state, thought that I'd just uninstall TM. I have this app called AppDelete, which did the trick. Now I realise that TM is in system prefs and appears to be working.
Firstly, has anyone else gotten this error, and secondly, is there any way to get back whatever it was I deleted earlier? Maybe by using the install disk. I looked at it earlier and didn't see any options.
I noticed that the TM "app" in the Applications folder was only a few hundred kbs so I may not have done much damage. Doesn't anyone know what that part is? Is it just a frontend or what?
I am trying to transfer some videos from one external HD to another external HD through my MacBook Pro. I copy the whole folder but only half get transferred, the other comes up with an Error Code 0.

I tried copying to a different hdd.. same problem. So I researched it, turns out its a permissions problem. When I try to run Disk Utility on the drive with the music it does not allow me to verify or repair the disk. I was thinking about trying to do the transfer in windows.
