I'm a writer with an iMac Leopard, OS 10.5.8 at home, and a classic iMac, OS 9.6 at my office. They speak to each other via a zip disk. Although I print at home with an Epson Stylus 740, I would like to install a basic printer for the classic Imac OS 9.6 at the office, mostly for printing pages of type. It would be used exclusively for the old, classic iMac only.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anyone uses their Mac mini to do some basic video editing and mess with photos? My friend is notorious for shooting video and making DVDs of her video. I'm looking for her since she will be new to a Mac. She will basically be doing cutting and pasting of video, adding photos and music in the video, and such things like that. She will not be doing real intense graphics, maybe just having some effects that the video software provides. Question I have asked whether the Mac mini would be powerful enough for her needs. Would final cut be able to run on it in case she decides to get more into it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an extremely old Touchbase (AfterHours) application program (runs on Classic). With the purchase of a new IMac, I realized it doesn't read the old Classic system. This database has over 2500 contacts for our small office. Is there anyway to put this on a new IMac or any software out there that could convert the old program into a new database. I don't relish the idea of retyping 2500 pieces of information.

A lot of them are the really ancient 800K kind so I am using a Mac Classic II running System 7.0.1 to access them. The process is going well but occasionally I've run across a PC formatted floppy that the Mac won't read. It just says: This disk is not a Macintosh diskette. Do you want to Initialize it? So how do I give my Classic the ability to access these PC format diskettes?

I was using Entourage and loved the Project part of the software. For individual projects it keeps scheduled events, contacts, emails and files all associated together. However, my university's IT asked me to stop using Entourage due to some networking issue so I've started with iCal and Address Book and I'm looking for something to replace Entourage's Project.
I've looked at Bento, and Soho Notes, but they don't seem to have a scheduling side to them and I don't think one can just drop different sorts of files into the relevant project. Other pieces software I've heard of are Yojimbo, DevonThink, Soho Organizer and some Omni softwares, but I'm not sure if they will be any better and the learning curve on a couple of these makes this a hard endeavor on my own.
Costco's website has both the HannsG HG-281DPB and Viewsonic VX2835WM monitors on for (on) sale at $499. Both are using the same panel (probably TN) and are 28" rated and 27.5" viewable. I'm not doing any gaming and not doing any color work that would require really precise color callibration. I know you get what you pay for and if these monitors are as good as my current then they'll be fine.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have an old Epson Stylus CX5400 all-in-one which works fine for my organization's occasional scanning needs (that's all we use it for). However, it's big and bulky and I'd rather replace it with something small that's more convenient to store and transport. I could probably get $50 for it on eBay.
What replacement do you recommend? I've checked out Epson's v30 and v300 and Canon's LiDE 100 so far. Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard compatibility would be best, though only the latter two are essential. I'd like not to spend more than $80.
I am trying to find an updated screen capture program (not video recording, just stills) that works well in Snow Leopard and will run OK in 64bit mode too. One of my favorite old programs from Windows was called "Hypersnap" and I would like to find something that good or better for the Mac. In that program you could do things like add highlights to the image, draw arrows or place clip art on the image too. After looking at Google, I just could not find anything like that, at least current for Snow Leopard use.

That's the message I got when adding a new printer driver. The reference was system/library/extension/cnqe202-classicnotseize.kext. Or close to that. I think I got that message also when upgrading to 10.6.1. As I recall there was also a note about updating this extension but no info on how to do it. Searching for .kext brought up a long list from last August having to do with crash reports with skype, real player, fire fox and a couple more; but nothing permanent and everything is working fine. Anyone have any thoughts about this? I'm using an iMac, 20".
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I've set up (or tried to anyways) a network between my MacBook Pro & iMac through a Time Capsule. My iMac is connected through a cable and the laptop is wireless. The printer is connected to the USB port on the T.C.
Here's the scoop, I can connect both computers wirelessly on the network no problem but the printer is not recognised by the iMac whatsoever. Now I know I could probably disconnect the cable on the iMac and it would probably recognise the printer but is there a way to fix this issue and leave it connected by the cable?
Both computers back up to the TC w/o issue, I don't see why the TC cannot facilitate printing via a cable since it obviously communicates to the computer w/ Time Machine. Is there a setting to fix this? I have to admit I'm kinda new to setting up networks and working w/ them.
I recently installed a new printer (Brother HL-5340D), which works fine.
But ...
Now every time I log in, the system asks me to "Choose the machine you want to install", and suggests the printer. (My previous printer was a Brother, and there was no problem)
I googled and found only Windows solutions; I searched this forum, and there was a welter of posts about printers.
What does one do on a Mac to stop the system from doing this?
I've tried everything have redownloaded drivers, no luck, when I go into 'print and scan' panel and select add priner, no printers appear in the list... I noticed that I have an Epson printer RX690 icon in my techtool pro rescued items folder ? this is the epson printerproxy? but can't put this away and don't know where is would go and if this would make a difference.

I purchased a new iMac a month ago. Often, the keyboard just stops working and the computer has to be restarted for the keyboard to work again. Another problem: Unless I plug my printer in with a USB, the Mac does not pick it up. The printer is a fairly new HP Officejet J5780.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have two printers connected to my iMac (10.7.3) and I am trying to enable printer sharing for my MacBook Air to utilize the iMac's printers. On the iMac, I go to System Prefrences > Sharing and check Printer Sharing and I ensure that both printers are being shared. Everything is checked, but the second I close the System Prefrences window, the printer sharing stops working. I go back into System Prefrences and the Printer Sharing box is unchecked.

Even when keyboard is unplugged, any text field just takes off running. Also, none of the drop down menus will stay down, they immediately disappear. When single clicking on an icon, it will instantly go to the .ds store icon and leave the selected icon unselected. Is this a bug that can be fixed?

When it arrives next week I want to get it all set up before he wraps it and "hides" it from me (he said I could so it's ready to go on Christmas morning). So I need to know the easiest and best way to get my files (bookmarks, mail, printer, applications, etc) from the old to the new. I use an external hard drive and super duper to back up. I've never done this before. Would a genius bar do it for me?

Would there be any harm in me dropping my user manual PDFs into the package at the top level (outside the >Contents folder)? I absolutely know to be cautious about messing with items within the >Contents folder, but wondering whether there is any harm in dropping in user guides or other related reference information into the package, outside the Contents or other key program folders within the folder.
Ultimately, I'm just looking for a way to keep my documentation organized and with whatever program it corresponds to. I've found that too many times, I download program manuals and tip sheets, and then I can't find where I put them on my hard drive. Also trying to avoid having duplicates of folders (i.e., a "Photoshop" folder in my /Applications and a "Photoshop" folder in my /Documents).
