Apr 4, 2010I have had my Simple Drive 500GB External Hard Drive for some time now but I have noticed recently that whenever I delete a file from it the hard drive doesn't give the space back.
For Example: I Have 143.95GB on the External Hard Drive free but when I delete a 20gig file it doesn't give the space back on the External Hard Drive, it stays at 143.95GB. Also, this happens with many of my flash drives etc.

Apr 24, 2012It appears that my apps don't reopen to their last state. For example I can close safari with the red x and when I reopen it safari just goes to my home page. Even if I had multiple tabs open it just opens a single tab with the homepage. Other apps seem to start from scratch as well. I have the restore option checked in system preferences. Both my IMac and my MacBook do this.

OS X :: Time Machine Not Enough Space / Deleted All My Previous Backups
Jun 14, 2010After searching the internet for a couple of hours I've given up and I'll bother you all with a question.
I've been using Time Machine since around december when I got a 1TB external LaCie. I've partitioned 250gb of it to back up the 180gb OS X partition on my mbp (yes I know it's not a ton of space for backup). It's been working wonderfully for 6 months. Even saved me once, found a file I had accidentally deleted.
I've had absolutely no trouble until yesterday.
I plugged in my Time Machine drive after 3 or 4 days of running around with my mbp and doing some light work. A few minutes go by and Time Machine has calculated that 85gb (usually it's at most 1-2 gigs for a full day backup, no idea how it went up to 85) and that there are only 74gb available, so the backup fails.
That's odd, so I try again. Same thing. So I enter Time Machine and I find that only one backup date is available, June 10th. Apparently the last time it was plugged in. So I exit Time Machine and browse through the drive itself via Finder and find that, sure enough, there is only one backup folder in existence. It seems like Time Machine deleted all my previous backups in order to fit this massive 85gb 4 days backup.
So does this mean everything is really gone, and that's why it wants to backup 85gb (just over half of the used space on my drive)? I'm pretty confused as to why this would happen, and what it means.
Any other options other than wiping and starting over?
OS X :: Trying To Delete Some Previous Backups?
Sep 22, 2010My external is getting pretty full and was trying to delete some previous backups. I put them in the trash and each time I try to delete them I get error code 8003. I tried using Trash it! but after 12 hours of letting it run nothing was removed.
Any ideas of how to empty it?
After carelessly playing with terminal (learned my lesson) I just would like to put the back up files back on my external, which says "can't be done since backup items can't be modified"

Dec 1, 2009i'v just lost important files when my new backup on an external HD using Time Machine deleted and wrote over a previous one ... informing me after (!) deleting (and why not before) . Is there any means for me to recover these files : mainly pics and music?

They are Canon MP630 and Canon PIXME Pro 9000 mk ll..I have contacted canon and they have sent me the latest udates and said they are compatable upto 10.7.x but the aren't compatable with 10.7.3 the update failed. Jun 15, 2012The latest update for Java is causing issues on our website, disabling Mac users on OS 10.6 and 10.7 from uploading or downloading images using a java applet. We know it is being cause by these recent updates:Java for OS X 2012-004 or Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 9.Is there any fix for this or a way to revert back to the previous version of Java, without having to re-install Mac OS? We are currenlty at a loss of how to address this issue and we have many users impacted.

Sep 13, 2010What are the reasons and solutions for the slow running of a Mac OS X System? I did an archive and reinstall a while ago to solve a drag and drop problem but since then the systems sometimes gives me what I have learn is referred to as the spinning wheel of death. I have also read somewhere else that there is a folder named the Previous Systems folder which is supposed to be where everything from the previous system (before the archive and reinstall) is stored. It was advised that this folder be thrashed to get a faster system and avoid hangs but I am a bit reluctant to touch anything that may cause further problems.

Sep 29, 2010How do I go about deleting applications? I have two versions of Safari on my computer. Version 4.03 or something like that, and the new 5.02. I know I upgraded to the 5 when it came out and I had assumed I was running that since then. Turns out I've still been running 4, and was having an issue with the "New Tab" not working. Thats when I noticed I wasn't running 5. (if you follow me?)... I just redownloaded 5 b/c I thought it would overwrite the 4 version, but it didn't, now I have two Safari's and when I do a spot light search 2 show up as well with no indicator as to which is which. If it matters, I am running Snow Leopard with everything up to date (at least I think? considering I thought this was...)

Dec 2, 2009At the beginning of November I opened my stickies and a song I had been working on was gone. I have had data recovery attempt to find the lost stickie, but 1) it was not saved as a text file, 2) it is no longer in the stickies database, and 3) I do not currently have time machine. Basically, everyone told me I was screwed except the top of the line place in California who wants to charge me $1500 to just attempt to get it back, with no gurantee. Is there anyway I can recover a deleted stickie? Or is there anyway to restore the stickies database/my computer back to a date when I know the stickie there?

Or does 6.0 share some files with it and will I have a problem if 8.0 is deleted? I also have to say that, the more I use my iMac, the better I like it. Apr 25, 2012This has been happening for awhile now. No doubt due to some upgrade. When I search for a string I'll get the list of google hits. And the search string will still be right in the window where I typed it. But sometimes after going to a link, I'll come back to this page and the page will be the same, but the search string is from a previous search. This is an inconvenience as I frequently go back to edit the search. I can't seem to reproduce it at the moment.

Feb 4, 2009I'm retrying to install windows on my mac. It's the second time I'm trying, but it has somehow become way harder. The first time I installed Windows, everything worked perfectly, untill I noticed that SP2 wasn't installed, and I couldn't install it on my windows, somehow.
Now I'm trying it with a different version of XP (Pro), but Bootcamp is giving issues. I haven't deleted the old volume/partition (don't know the difference) of windows yet, as it is installed on my startup disk and Disk Utility won't delete it .

Apr 11, 2012We have purchased a 2nd hand iMac from Amazon and have been trying to download from the Mac App Store, we both have Apple IDs but when we are trying to download/purchase an app that was previously downloaded by the last owner it is only giving us the option to Accept and not purchase, after signing in it then gives us the error message that it has already been downloaded to the previous ID and if we want to download it we need to re-purchase it, which is fine.we did not get any original media in the box so cannot factory reset and redownload.Â

Oct 5, 2009I recently check my 150 GB hard drive and noticed that I only have 10 GTB left. While going through my files to check what I don't need or want, I noticed that I have a folder called Previous Systems. Inside this folder are two other folders with dates for names. Each folder has approximately 20 GB for a total of 40 GB. Can I simply toss this folder? It does not seem to do anything. The folder must have been created from a backup some time ago. I don't recall doing that.

Nov 2, 2010I tried using the guide (the sticky at the top) to re-install OSX on my MBA 64Gb to save space, but I don't have the option to take off a lot of the stuff I don't need.
For example, I don't see an option to not install Garageband, or the Printer Divers. Anyone else have this problem with the new MBAs? I get the option to not install Additional languages, but that only saves me 1.22GB.
Can someone tell me how I can uncheck some of the of the other stuff that the guide shows here:
