OS X :: How Much HD Space Does Snow Leopard Save
Sep 21, 2009I went from having 16gig free before installing, to 33gig!
Can this be right?

I selected all the emails in a mailbox. Opened a new email, clicked in the body and click edit>append something or other. All the selected emails from the mailbox appeared in the new email. I click print and mail locks up and I have to force quit It's supposed to open a print dialog box in which I should be able to click PDF in the lower left corner... but I can't get that far. How can I save these emails as a PDF?

Is there a autosave app for snow leopard kinda like the auto-save for lion? Since I do alot of illustrator and photo-shop design I would love to have this feature.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just recently upgraded to Lion and created a Snow Leopard partition to run some of my old pieces of music software. I've got a bit of annoying problem where I can't chnge the mouse preferences in the Snow Leopard partition. I can change the dropdown boxes to set the right click etc. and they stay populated all the while that System Preferences is open. However, the funcitonality of the buttons does not change and when closing and re-opening System Preferences the dropdowns are populated with the default options again.Â
I've tried deleting SystemPreferences.plist but this hasn't helped. EDIT: I've also removed the Documents and Downloads stacks from my dock and since restarting these have appeared again. As has the System Preferences icon in the Dock. It seems to be more widespread than just mouse preferences.Â

I cannot modify then save or create a new Applescript and save it on my MacPro. I get an error message saying I don't have permission. To view or change permissions select the item in the Finder then chose File > Get Info. When I do that, and enter my pass phrase to unlock the lock at the bottom right of the Get Info window I can do that, but I cannot change the Privileges and I wouldn't know what to change them to anyway.
If it helps, I'm running off a drive that used to be my backup drive and the info on it was copied by Carbon Copy Cloner. Also, I recent reinstalled the OS because the machine wasn't booting from the drive reliably. After the reinstallation I ran Disk Warrior, Disk Utility (permissions and repair), optimized the drive with DiskTools Pro and checked its SMART status.
I should add that if I restart off my main drive I can change and save scripts. But I don't want to use that drive as my main drive anyore as I upgraded it to Lion which I don't like (Lion killed my most important applications).
Having an issue where Preview is crashing at the end of a Save As (hangs briefly when the progress bar is full, then crashes) -- happens pretty consistently. Running 10.6.1 (on top of a fresh 10.6 install), but happened in 10.6 as well, though perhaps not as often. Have plenty of memory.
One snippet of the crash report:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000010
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
I have a vague feeling that the issue might not be in Preview, per se, but in the OS.
Image Capture in Snow Leopard defaults to saving to the Pictures folder, but I want to change it to the Desktop instead. If I simply change it in the app, close it, and open it again, it reverts back to the Pictures folder.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a work around how can preview save a locked JPG file? PNG's can do a save as in preview even if is locked.Â
here is the error below.Â
the reason why i want to find out is because outlook saves their attachment files locked and if i open them in preview, i cannot do a save as on JPGs.Â
i have not tried any other image viewer to automatically open the attachments and save them. PNG attachements behave alright so why can't JPGs?
I also have the boxed checked to remember my home wireless network and save the password. However, every time is tries to connect and the router is just out of range, it deletes the password and I need to re-enter it the next time I attempt to connect. This is very annoying, and I never had this problem in OS 10.5. I wonder how to force 10.6 to save the password, even when the connection fails due to the router being out of range. It's as though the connection fails and the OS thinks it's because the password is wrong, so it deletes it. I'm wondering how to tell it not to delete the password. I end up needing to type in my wireless password a dozen or so times a day, every time it looses the signal.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running a 64 bit Matlab simulation on an enormous dataset and OS X (not Matlab) is telling me I'm running out of space on my startup disk for "application memory". I've got 300GB of free space on the hard drive, and only 60GB used as swap. I think the limit I'm hitting is the 64th swap file.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI was running Leopard 10.5.8 and my iMac 2.4GHz w/1GB Ram seemed to be getting slow. I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Without much running (Mail, Safari, iCal) it is very slow. At times, the free space has gotten down to 2.5MB in Activity Monitor. Nothing extraordinary seems to running when I open Activity Monitor. When I was trying to sync my iCal with MobileMe it really crawled.
I did a PRAM reset, ran Repair Disk with install disk and Disk Warrior without any errors.
When I restore a disk image in Snow Leopard it takes over 50gb of install space! I know that os x should take about 9gb. What is happening?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought Snow Leopard recently and attempted to install it yesterday. Mid-way through installation it cancelled due to "Unchangeable Disk Space." It gave me the option to restart and re-install, which I attempted, to the same error. I tried once more to no avail. At this point I attempted to restart using the old operating system (Leopard). When I did so the computer restarted. It stayed on the initial grey boot up screen (with the mac logo and the spinning circle thing underneath) for about 3 minutes before shutting down. This occurs every time I boot the computer back up.I am using a Macbook purchased November 2008 which was running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8.Â

I'm using a MacBook Pro (March 2011) running 10.6.8.Â
I just deleted (technically backed up to an external raid and then deleted from the system disk) about 8gb worth of files.Â
However, in Finder and in Disk Utility, it shows 1.96GB available. That number is up a little and for awhile at least, was growing.Â
I'm also experiencing this same problem on an external USB drive. I deleted about 3 gb worth of files, but the available disk space hasn't increased. Â
I'm coming from the PC world, where, if you delete a bunch of stuff, the free disk space magically increases to show the correct amount.Â

How can I purge my print settings via .plist or other so I can change my paper size? No matter what I select, preview application 'refreshes' my print values to a fixed 8.5x11 that applies a second border to my pdf and pushes everything down the page. Borderless 8.5x11 just won't stay as the value even though my printer has done this before. Worked fine prior, but now it just will not take a new page size.

My Laptop runs slow and often spins when I open the browser or other apps sometimes and found the load average to be less than and also about 300MB free memory, till I notice swap as 40MB/256MB on iStat.
Questions:
1. How do I find out what process is causing the swap? The top does not show swap, and the vm_stat does not show swap either like vmstat does.
2. In the memory what does the wired, Active, Inactive memory mean? The only value that makes sense is Free.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to change the minimum amount of space we want TM to leave available on the backup disk? I assume no but couldn't see any recent answers to see if this has changed (or if there is some hidden setting change). What's the default space or percentage free TM will make sure is available?
I backup some macs directly to the TM volume (network via CCC) and want to make sure a minimum of 20GB or so remains available for those backups at any given time. The drive is 1TB and TM has filled up about 700GB of that with ongoing backups so far. TM runs hourly so pruning should happen before the need arises (the CCC backups are 2x/day). But I'd like to make sure there's a minimum available at all times.
