Applications :: Two Versions Of Safari Installed - How To Delete Previous One
Sep 29, 2010
How do I go about deleting applications? I have two versions of Safari on my computer. Version 4.03 or something like that, and the new 5.02. I know I upgraded to the 5 when it came out and I had assumed I was running that since then. Turns out I've still been running 4, and was having an issue with the "New Tab" not working. Thats when I noticed I wasn't running 5. (if you follow me?)... I just redownloaded 5 b/c I thought it would overwrite the 4 version, but it didn't, now I have two Safari's and when I do a spot light search 2 show up as well with no indicator as to which is which. If it matters, I am running Snow Leopard with everything up to date (at least I think? considering I thought this was...)
I accidentally installed QuickTime Player 7 to my Mac 10.7.3. QT7 was intended for older versions. QT7 is now preventing me from viewing videos using RealPlayer. How can I deinstall QT7?
I have Mac Leopard and recently updated iTunes to 10.5.6.However, I found at least 3 older versions on my computer. Is it safe to drag them to the trash, or drag them into "App. Delete" without losing any important data?
I was ripping a DVD last night and also surfing web and a couple other things all at same time (have 4gb memory) and the macbook crashed and was just stuck. It stayed that way for a long time, so I held down the power button and turned it off. After that, I couldn't get it to book back up. It would just stay stuck at the grey screen with the spinning wheel.
So I got out my original DVD disk and reinstalled. I do not remember how it worded it, but I did the option where it kept my previous system information. I now have Leopard installed again and I have a folder called "previous system" and I can view my old desktop files, applications, etc.
My external is getting pretty full and was trying to delete some previous backups. I put them in the trash and each time I try to delete them I get error code 8003. I tried using Trash it! but after 12 hours of letting it run nothing was removed. Any ideas of how to empty it?
After carelessly playing with terminal (learned my lesson) I just would like to put the back up files back on my external, which says "can't be done since backup items can't be modified"
I have only a couple of gigs of space left on my hard drive of my otherwise perfectly fine imac. Looking on the drive I see two folders which combined take up around 80 gigs of space. One is titled "systems copy" and is dated from 5 years ago, and the other is called "Applications copy" and is similarly dated. These could be from when the machine had major repairs back in 2007, but as I didn't create them I'm not sure. I don't see these on my newer macbook drive, so I'm wondering whether they are necessary.
I'm trying to switch off 'Versions' in Safari on my mother's MacBook Pro because she's frustrated that Safari doesn't open on her homepage every time she launches it but instead re-opens the windows / tabs from her last session.Â
Does anyone know how to launch the alert box that lets you untick the option for Safari to 'remember' your windows / tabs from your last session?
(I even tried shutting down to see if the alert box would appear but it didn't.)Â
Just FYI - solutions I've already suggested to her are:
• Close all open tabs and windows before quitting Safari - so it *opens to her homepage on launch, (*she insists that doesn't always work though. Has anyone here experienced that?)
• Alternatively, open Safari Preferences and choose to make each new tab open on her homepage as well as new windows, (but she doesn't want to do that.)Â
What are the reasons and solutions for the slow running of a Mac OS X System? I did an archive and reinstall a while ago to solve a drag and drop problem but since then the systems sometimes gives me what I have learn is referred to as the spinning wheel of death. I have also read somewhere else that there is a folder named the Previous Systems folder which is supposed to be where everything from the previous system (before the archive and reinstall) is stored. It was advised that this folder be thrashed to get a faster system and avoid hangs but I am a bit reluctant to touch anything that may cause further problems.
My girlfriend just purchased a 1 year old Mac with OS X 10.5.2. Incredible as this seems, the previous owner mistakenly left all of her old information on the computer! We would like to delete this, but have been unable to contact her and get her password. Is there another way we can erase/delete this information?
i have 1 user on my imac. when i access the imac over my network from my mbp, i see 3 folders - the hard drive folder, the main user folder, and also a public folder from a previous user which i have since deleted. there should only be 2 folders visible.Â
when i search the imac, i can't find this rogue orphan public folder at all. how do i delete it?
I'm retrying to install windows on my mac. It's the second time I'm trying, but it has somehow become way harder. The first time I installed Windows, everything worked perfectly, untill I noticed that SP2 wasn't installed, and I couldn't install it on my windows, somehow.
Now I'm trying it with a different version of XP (Pro), but Bootcamp is giving issues. I haven't deleted the old volume/partition (don't know the difference) of windows yet, as it is installed on my startup disk and Disk Utility won't delete it .
We have purchased a 2nd hand iMac from Amazon and have been trying to download from the Mac App Store, we both have Apple IDs but when we are trying to download/purchase an app that was previously downloaded by the last owner it is only giving us the option to Accept and not purchase, after signing in it then gives us the error message that it has already been downloaded to the previous ID and if we want to download it we need to re-purchase it, which is fine.we did not get any original media in the box so cannot factory reset and redownload.Â
Just wondering anyone run into any problem after installed Safari 4.0.5? I use igoogle as Homepage, after I upgraded to 4.0.5 the google mail gadget don't work anymore, when i click on mail it won't go to quick view for Gmail and if I click on the Google Mail in the tap on the left-hand side it's work but bottom half of the mails screen or half of the email it's missing..Anyone having the same problem? I try to find 4.0.4 to download but I cant find anywhere still has it..
I recently check my 150 GB hard drive and noticed that I only have 10 GTB left. While going through my files to check what I don't need or want, I noticed that I have a folder called Previous Systems. Inside this folder are two other folders with dates for names. Each folder has approximately 20 GB for a total of 40 GB. Can I simply toss this folder? It does not seem to do anything. The folder must have been created from a backup some time ago. I don't recall doing that.
I'm trying to free up space, and notice that on my hard drive, under "Updates" there are several. Screen shot below. My question is this: can I delete some of them? Would the most recent update be all I need to retain?
Latest Safari versions do not comply with RFC 2109 regarding cookies size.RFC 2109 6.3 Implementation Limits Practical user agent implementations have limits on the number and size of cookies that they can store. In general, user agents' cookie support should have no fixed limits. They should strive to store as many frequently-used cookies as possible.Furthermore, general-use user agents should provide each of the following minimum capabilities individually, although not necessarily simultaneously:Â
* at least 300 cookies
* at least 4096 bytes per cookie (as measured by the size of the characters that comprise the cookie non-terminal in the syntax description of the Set-Cookie header)Â
* at least 20 cookies per unique host or domain name User agents created for specific purposes or for limited-capacity devices should provide at least 20 cookies of 4096 bytes, to ensure that the user can interact with a session-based origin server. Latest Safari violates this RFC and has 4 KB limit on total size of all cookies for each domain. It causes severe problems with many Web Applications including Web Applications which use Microsoft SAML2 federated security.Safari must support up to 20 cookies per domain and each cookie must be at least 4096 bytes long. Where can I get a fix fro Safari.Â
Safari has changed fonts on me; some, but not all, fonts on websites are now presented in some clunky cartoonish font. This is mostly fonts at smaller sizes. I've checked my preferences and the fonts specced there are the usual, Times & Courier. The only new thing is that I recently installed Pith Helmet. There seems to be no mention of any kind of font issues witrh PH, and an uninstall of it has made no difference.
Anybody have the 12WX working correctly with lion with no previous wacom installed? hooked it up right away with no problems on a leopard mac pro. had working windows xp on virtual machine no problems.with imac lion, would not run the install drivers from disk (PPC). so installed the latest 6.2 driver and a bamboo intuos 3 driver as recomended by wacom. installed driver for pen. the bamboo driver worked for a day or so ( with no option keys working), but had 4 point calibration unlike the two point from leopard install.now, neither are recognizing a tablet connection, only works as monitor. uninstalled. tried an older driver 6.15. ran fix disk permissions, reset pram. restarted(+++). dis and re connected. reinstalled again and again. still no luck getting it running on a new mid 2011 imac with lion.
I cannot uninstall the TV Center Toolbar from Safari. I used the uninstall feature on the toolbar, and the uninstall feature in "applications" "toolbars" "uninstal" folder. I have even re-installed the application and then tried to uninstall (as per the companies instructions). A good 3rd party software to uninstall perhaps??
when I was out trying to set up a development environment on my Mac. (SVN, Bug Tracking, etc.)
It's called Versions, and it's still in beta, but it seems really stable, and it's one of the best SVN clients I've ever used. I have no affiliation with the company or product at all, so this isn't a plug. I've just been using it constantly to manage some Xcode projects and a few other important documents between Macs, and I thought I'd share.
How do you prevent Safari from opening to the previous webpage? This gets me into trouble when I move from one wifi place (home, hospital office) to another. Can I adjust it so it just opens to the homepage the way it did before I switched to Lion OS?
I recently bought a new MacBook Pro and used the iWork '09 trial that was offered - and thought it was great. I made lots of new documents in the trial period but at the end of it, I thought I would see if I could install my old version of iWork 08 from a previous computer. I found that I could do this, but it would not open any iWork '09 files, so I had to buy iwork '09 anyway as I had done so much work with it. I got caught out I think! Did anyone else find this too?
