App Store :: Delete Previous Owners ID From IMac Without Original Media?
Apr 11, 2012
We have purchased a 2nd hand iMac from Amazon and have been trying to download from the Mac App Store, we both have Apple IDs but when we are trying to download/purchase an app that was previously downloaded by the last owner it is only giving us the option to Accept and not purchase, after signing in it then gives us the error message that it has already been downloaded to the previous ID and if we want to download it we need to re-purchase it, which is fine.we did not get any original media in the box so cannot factory reset and redownload.Â

I bought my MBP 2.8 second hand a few months back. The seller created an account under my name - which all works fine. He also left a bunch of graphics apps that I want to keep ( so I'd rather not re-install OS X ) - when I start the computer I get the log on panel - and just above the name field where you put in your account name, it says " Joe Bloggs Macbook Pro ".
How can I change this so it says my name?

I bought a used late 2009 MacBook & Mac Mini HTPC loaded with apps/programs and this is my first run with Macs. The previous owner didn't restore them at my request as part of the deal, all of the software discs and serial numbers went with his other MacBook when he sold it and if I restore I will lose everything but iwork and snow leopard, I can't afford to buy new and don't want illegitimate copies of CS5 Master collection and tons of others that can't be updated. I have spent two days attempting to remove his what seem to be thousands of files, docs, etc and seem to be getting nowhere and don't want to accidentally remove any operating components either. Is it possible to delete the user that installed all this software to wipe out his info/files without losing the software itself? He is the only user besides "guests", "staff" and "everyone else", I renamed it once but it seems to revert when I go to another app?

I've looked at some other posts that have gone over how to move files to an external drive, and they all say to use command while moving. I understand this copies the file and deletes the original, but when you make a copy and delete the original, you lose some of the original data, such as creation date, etc... This makes storage and organization more complicated than it has to be.

I have been using a borrowed Macbook Pro (5.4) OS X 10.6.8 so that I could learn some of the differences between the Mac & the PC's that I am familiar with. Before returning the Macbook to it's owner I'd like to wipe out the information I've put onto it while I had it. Documents, passwords, history etc. I'd like to return the laptop as it was when I rec'd it. The person I've borrowed it from is quite familiar with Mac systems, and I'd like to be sure my data is securly removed.
The person I borrowed from has their user account on the computer locked, and of course I can't damage their files in any way. I do have athority to create a new account.
I'm not sure if there is more information you need so that you can help me, but this should get the ball rolling.

How do you delete an app on iMac? I have no problem deleting them on an iPad or iPhone, but the iMac does not have the touch screen. I've tried putting them in the trash, but they won't go away.

I'm thinking about getting an aluminum iMac in Sept when Snow Leopard releases. I sold my MBP.. which was supposed to be towards a new Mac... but I bought a new Ninja instead and the MBP money went towards my ridiculous insurance premium for the year. lol.
I really want a 24" but I don't want to drop the extra $300. Refurb is an option. As long as it wasn't scratched I wouldn't mine getting a refurb I guess. I currently use the older 17" Apple Studio Display and it's alright. But bigger and something widescreen is needed. 20" would be an improvement but not a HUGE one.
Which screen (20" or 24") has less backlighting issues?

My hard disk is a Raid system. 4x3TB = total 12TB but 3 TB is for backup. So in effect usage space is 9TB. But now used up 7TB (called it original harddisk) I took my iMac to a shop and it dis some verify and tried to repair the disk using Disk Utility. But it cannot repair. Apparently, he said that my hard disk is okay but it has a directory corrupt problem. That is why now my FCPX cannot read all the data. All my media files for FCPX are stored in this 9TB external hard disk. So, I was told the steps to do are:Â
1)Â copy all these 7TB data from Original hard disk into a new hard disk (called it haddisk B).Â
2) Then reformat the old 9TB hard disk (which we earlier called as original hard disk).Â
3) Then I copy back from hard disk B into Original Harddisk 9TBÂ Question is will FCPX be able to recognise again my media files from the Original hard disk in

My external is getting pretty full and was trying to delete some previous backups. I put them in the trash and each time I try to delete them I get error code 8003. I tried using Trash it! but after 12 hours of letting it run nothing was removed.
Any ideas of how to empty it?
After carelessly playing with terminal (learned my lesson) I just would like to put the back up files back on my external, which says "can't be done since backup items can't be modified"

What are the reasons and solutions for the slow running of a Mac OS X System? I did an archive and reinstall a while ago to solve a drag and drop problem but since then the systems sometimes gives me what I have learn is referred to as the spinning wheel of death. I have also read somewhere else that there is a folder named the Previous Systems folder which is supposed to be where everything from the previous system (before the archive and reinstall) is stored. It was advised that this folder be thrashed to get a faster system and avoid hangs but I am a bit reluctant to touch anything that may cause further problems.
My systems info: IMAC Version 10.5.8

How do I go about deleting applications? I have two versions of Safari on my computer. Version 4.03 or something like that, and the new 5.02. I know I upgraded to the 5 when it came out and I had assumed I was running that since then. Turns out I've still been running 4, and was having an issue with the "New Tab" not working. Thats when I noticed I wasn't running 5. (if you follow me?)... I just redownloaded 5 b/c I thought it would overwrite the 4 version, but it didn't, now I have two Safari's and when I do a spot light search 2 show up as well with no indicator as to which is which. If it matters, I am running Snow Leopard with everything up to date (at least I think? considering I thought this was...)

My girlfriend just purchased a 1 year old Mac with OS X 10.5.2. Incredible as this seems, the previous owner mistakenly left all of her old information on the computer! We would like to delete this, but have been unable to contact her and get her password. Is there another way we can erase/delete this information?

I'm retrying to install windows on my mac. It's the second time I'm trying, but it has somehow become way harder. The first time I installed Windows, everything worked perfectly, untill I noticed that SP2 wasn't installed, and I couldn't install it on my windows, somehow.
Now I'm trying it with a different version of XP (Pro), but Bootcamp is giving issues. I haven't deleted the old volume/partition (don't know the difference) of windows yet, as it is installed on my startup disk and Disk Utility won't delete it .

My sales team have an email they wish to send out to loads of people throughout the day. Is there a way to 'store' the original in Mail so they can then just fill in the addressee and hit send?
At the moment they are having to keep going into the sent items box to get the email back as once an email has been sent from 'drafts' box it moves to sent box.
To be able to send from the 'sent' box they need to 'forward' the email but this adds a quote level everytime. So they then have to manually delete the quote level.

I recently check my 150 GB hard drive and noticed that I only have 10 GTB left. While going through my files to check what I don't need or want, I noticed that I have a folder called Previous Systems. Inside this folder are two other folders with dates for names. Each folder has approximately 20 GB for a total of 40 GB. Can I simply toss this folder? It does not seem to do anything. The folder must have been created from a backup some time ago. I don't recall doing that.

I have some video files on an external HD from my old computer with iMovie 08. On my new iMac with iMovie 09, I have opened up one of those video files, or imported it. My question is this: Is there any need to keep the original file from my old computer, or has it now been stored on my new one with iMove 09? I'm thinking if I keep the old one, I am storing it twice. I am backing up my iMac, so that's not an issue. I'm just trying to figure out if I am keeping a "third" copy when it's not really needed.

I just got a 1TB external hard drive for my mac. I mainly got it because I was running out of space on my computer. So my question is can I use it for Time Machine and use it to store media, and other files? If I click the Time Machine Backups it says I have 800 or gigs of space, so I was wondering if I could drag stuff into that and run it right off there.

I am new to Mac OS. I have a new MBP 15'. I have bought a Western Digital 750GB hard drive and I even used it once to back up using Time Machine. Now I was thinking that Can I use the same hard drive on Windows and Mac both to store media? At present as it is formatted in Mac OS (Extended ) format, I think it is not recognised by Windows. But can we create such partitions of the portable drive that one of the partition can be used for Time Machine back ups and other one as FAT32 for media storage from both Windows and Mac?

I imported media with "Folders as Keywords" and now I find I don't really need that. I'm trying to delete those keywords, but of course, I don't want to lose the media associated with them. I tried Control-Click the keyword hoping it would give me the option to delete the keyword but no luck. What else can I try? These are some very big files and a lot of them, so I don't want to screw anything up.
