there is a small chip behind the glass of my 27" imac. It's about the size of a small crumb or the eye of a small needle. It's hard to see, but it's definitely there. Today is my last day to get the imac replaced or repaired. I have a feeling if I bring it in that they will see there's no reason to swap out the entire imac, and if there is I would have to wait awhile because it's a custom high end one so they don't have the specsI'm worried if they swap the glass that it's just some 19 year old kid that does it and he won't be careful with the screen and will get dust, finger prints, etc. on the glass making it worse.

I have an extremely frustrating and sporadic problem. I have no idea what triggers it and I have no idea how to check.Right now, whenever I roll my mouse over anything that should have an "action", it doesn't work. My dock doesn't magnify, menu rollovers on websites don't do anything, and my menu bar doesn't drop down or highlight when I roll my mouse over options. I have to hold my mouse button down, and then let it go when I want to click on something in my menu bar. I plugged in a different mouse, same problem. I restarted my machine, same problem. This has happened several time before and the funny thing is things all of a sudden return to normal.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOccurring starting about last month, this has gone from a seldom, to all the time situation. plugging in any USB memory device either directly to the computer, or with cables, will allow the files to be accessed/changed/deleted by programs, but the device with it's files will not show in finder. The device shows in System information. I have set Finder to show everything, but they no longer apear. Before failing entirely, I would sometimes have the device show for a short time, then get an "Improper removal" error, without touching the device, after a few moments. All these memory devices still function properly when used in external devices and when direcly accesed by software. Not being able to use finder to modify content is a significant problem.

Is there a way to see the number of items in a folder shown in finder?
Seems to me that in earlier versions, if you had a folder with 100 items (e.g., photos) in a folder in a finder window, when you clicked on the folder, something like "100 Items" would appear at the bottom of the finder window. I don't see this now in Lion.

I bought an imac 2 years ago, and updated it to leopard when that was released.
I no longer have the discs i used for Leopard, only the original mac os x 10.4 discs.I am very soon going to be selling this machine and need to wipe everything so that all is left if the operating system in the form you would expect as if you had just bought a new mac.How can this be achieved, i tried disck utility> erase, but only erase free space was 'highlighted'.

I just noticed that on my login screen, "Guest" appears even though it is disabled. I have not tried to run it, but when I do click on it I get the message that the computer will reboot into the "Guest" mode. I stopped at that point. This can't be normal.

I found a strange glitch with file permissions when accessing a network drive, on Lion. I am accessing my internal drive on my iMac over Wi-Fi from my MacBook. I am logged in under my user name. I notice that for every file on the remote drive (on my iMac), "staff" and "everyone" are ready only, but read & write access is reserved for "macports". Macports? It does not list my own name as having read & write permissions, and so I cannot save any file to this remote drive. When I access the drive locally on my iMac, the permissions appear correctly for the same files, i.e. my own name is listed as having read & write access. Is there some kind of glitch where the file permissions are misread when accessing a drive over the network?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 2009 iMac with SSD drive and 2TB drive.For the last 6 months, I'd get kernel errors every now and again, and I would reboot and things would be fine. A few days ago, the computer totally froze, and when I turned it on, it would shut right off. I tried booting to recovery partition, nothing worked. I took it to the apple store yesterday and they hooked it up to an external drive and then did a diagnostic test and the genius said it needed a fresh install of lion, that something was corrupting it. So we did that (for some reason though, it took about 4 tries for him to get it), and then I took the computer home and ran time machine.
Every thing worked as it should for about 12 hours, I did reboot a few times in that time. Anyways, now, it's back to where it was where I turn it on, there's a status bar on the bottom that fills about halfway and then the iMac shuts down. The apple genius said that a corrupt program/application might be causing that. I find this hard to believe ... I can understand a corrupt program crashing or not starting, but is it possible for that to not allow the computer to even turn on? The other thing is that when the computer crashed a few days ago, I hadn't installed anything new/etc .... ???

I don't know if this is a problem or not, but recently on my 15" MBP using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3, clicking on a .dmg file automatically opens Disk Utility. Which is weird, since before this situation happens, opening a .dmg file will not automatically open Disk Utility. I have a screen shot below opening the .dmg file for Firefox installer for Mac OS X. Shouldn't it actually be like this when clicking on a .dmg file? Is there a problem with my MBP or my Mac OS X Lion?

A few days ago I updated to Lion 10.7 with which I have had no problem. A day later I installed Moneywiz, Skydrive for mac and did some updates of various software. Since then, if starting from cold, my imac starts in safe mode. I get the start-up sound; then the white screen with Apple logo; then the spinning sun; then the progress bar; then the grey screen with "safe mode" in the top right and user log-in (although I don't have log-in set in my options). Once running in safe mode I can shut-down and re-start; or just re-start and it will load properly. I have tried starting with mouse/keyboard on/off. Is this a Lion thing or what.

My Macbook pro (Lion) starts up very slow. Many things seem to happen during startup. The screen goes small, blue, back and many times the loginscreen is coming up in a lower resolution. When I do a Pram reset it starts up with the correct resolution but after a couple of startups it goes back to 800x600 resolution (I guess). When I Log in the resolution is ok so only the login screen is a lower resolution.And if there is a solution beyond resetting the PRAM?

I just want to know, is it OK to erase the whole internal drive (not 'Macintosh HD' partition) and install a clean Lion? Will all the partitions be lost after erasing the drive? And when a new Lion is installed, will it automatically create two partitions: "Macintosh HD" and "Recovery HD"?

I got a new macbook pro. I tried installing windows on it via bootcamp...To cut a long story short, I messed up the system. Now the PC doesn't start and when I run the system, the apple logo just shows with the chime. Nothing more. I din't back up anyhting.Â
If the system manages to start, immediately I log on, the computer logs itself off again. Im simply tired of all this and want to erase mac osx lion from my mac book, then re-install it again. How to go about it?Â
I know pressing Command +R then going to recovery will open recovery. Then I click on disk utilities. But then, selecting which hardisk to format?
My hard disk had no partitions, but then trying to format it, I see a larger disk with a different title, then under it, I see "Macintosh HD". Which of them should I select to format to do the job? the main HD or the sub one under it "Macintosh HD"Â
I totally hate this, considering the fact that I have to buy about $60.0 worth of credits to re-download osx lion from the net. My macbook didn't come with a cd you know..

I tried to erase using Disk Utility but the disks were grayed out. I have saved all the data on another disk so I can completely erase the drive.

I have this iMac, and now I mostly use my macbook pro. So what I want to do to this one is delete everything (of course I will back up what I need) and then reinstall Lion, so first it can be faster. And second imac run bootcamp on it so I can play some PC Games.
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I took my MacBook to the apple store for an erase and reinstall due to about 20gb of space was missing on my HD. My latest backup was done the day before I went back to Apple to reinstall Lion. After I restored my data from the backup, the address book app and the app store app are both missing. My address book data is on iCloud so I'm not that concerned about the data but I would like to get the app back on my MacBook.Â

I am not using Time Machine as Genius Bar at the Apple store told me it was best not to (I was continually having errors and so GeniusBar erased my hard drive and reinstalled Lion). They said to then manually drag over documents onto my hard drive, avoiding the Applications, so no possible errors could be dragged back onto the clean hard drive.
But now I have Mail and none of my folders and previous accounts. Of course I can re-setup my accounts, but then they will just try to redownload all of the millions of emails I had before. None of the very organised folders I previously had, sent messages, etc, etc.

View 8 Replies View RelatedRecently, I Create a some days account for a visiting son on my MacBook Pro, and after erased that account, I noticed his former previous Public Folder appeard on File Sharing, on Sharing panel, but with a finder icon. As I tried to erased it, it said I cannot access to that folder because it doesn't exist or something. I create that account again, and went back to File Sharing -folder icon was as usual- click on the (–) buttom and be asked "Are you sure you want to stop sharing the folder "Son's Public Folder"; answered "yes" but nothing happens. Tried the same with my own folder and happens exactly the same.
notice that I can add some other folder, and erase it too, but not those two. Restore premissions and have the newest Software Update's.
