I have a message that pops up and disappears before I can get a chance to read it. I figured it may be an issue with an application since MS office 11 is installed and was running at the times also, before a reminder pops up a message appears. I fear there may be a potential issue with the OS or an application.
When using Safari (Safari is the foremost window) and selecting Safari Help from the Help menu of Safari, I see the help window start to fly up from the lifering icon in the dock, and then disappear behind the Safari window. To see the help window, I have to select it form the dock.Â
I've been noticing a dialog box that appears and disappears in a fraction of a second, just enough to annoy me. It happens at random times, and have noticed it while working in various applications. I've checked Console and determined that this is the culprit.
Working in Mavericks on an iMac 27. Secure Empty Trash starts but disappears and nothing is deleted. Is it safe to use Erase Free Space in Disk Utility?
When I try to upload or import files, the selection window appears for a quick moment, then disappears before I am able to make selection. I first noticed it when I was trying to upload a few photos on facebook, then it did it with flickr, then I wasn't able to import a file from Adobe After effects and it sometimes does it when I try to attach a photo in an email. I don't know what is going on but I am getting scared that I will never upload or import again.
When I run Softare Update (27' iMac, OSX 10.7.3), the application finds the needed updates and displays the usual updates available window. However when I click on Install (whether ot not i open up the details window), the update window disappears, the application icon remains on the dock with the dot uderneath indicating and open application but nothing happens.
The open window no longer includes the slide bar for the mouse. I have to grab the side of the window and move it to have the slide bar appear and be quick enough to use it

Rebooting this question to keep it simpler. Using the above, when I try to relink to files that are definitely the same type and size (WAVs or AIFFs only), the process SEEMS to work; the progress bar to confirm matching file goes through, file name disappears from the link search window and at the bottom it says (when searching for 1 file) Matched: 1 out of 1.Â
But nothing changes, still just red empty clips in Event Browser and Timeline. I've tried deleting original file references / aliases from the Original Media folder, tried linking to the new file from various older folders, tried changing the names of files, just nothing. I've trashed preferences with Preference Manager. Is this some bug they left behind in Mountain Lion because they think we should all be in Mavericks by now? I'm afraid to upgrade to 10.1.1 anyway with some older projects I still need to use - and I have other reasons to wait as well.Â
I have a 21.5" iMac bought in November 2009. I am having a strange happening with it. I have just been using Mail, clicked on the red button at the top left to quit, but the mail window just kept disappearing all but about 3mm off the screen to the top and top left and not quitting. I have also had this happen when using Safari, occasionally if I click on a link on the page to another open another page Safari disappears off the top and top left except for about 3mm.
I've been having problems with downloading programmes in general. When I hit a download link, the page refreshes, but no download window appears, and nothing happens. I did have a look this morning & there was a suggestion about something I think was called speeddownloader which I looked for but couldn't see it. I am new to MAC's. This problem happens on both safari & Firefox so you can imagine my frustration! My system is 1 t.b. 21.5 inch screen 4gb memory Mac OS X Version 10.6.4.
Forgive me for not knowing the proper terminology. I have a MacBook Pro running the latest Snow Leopard. I am the only user on my laptop. When I turn on my laptop, it just starts up and I am in. No login. But I recently decided that I should increase my security a little by having the OS prompt me for my password upon waking up from sleep/screensaver. Is there any way to customize the little, basic window that appears where I enter my password? Most forum entries discuss the login window, but I don't think that's what this is called. I'm not really logging in - just unlocking it. I'd like to be able to customize the appearance of the window, the text, maybe make sounds if the wrong password is entered, etc. Main reason for this is for security purposes. If someone tries to use my laptop while it's sitting on my desk at work, I'd like to know (and would like him/her to know I know). Maybe hear it - maybe see some message.
Each time I open Safari on my MacBook Pro, a window appears asking me to enter my Login password. I do this, and everything works fine. But I do not understand why Safari asks me to enter my Login password. How do I turn this "feature" off?
My IMAPÂ (5.2) Lion mail account set to download "Manually."Â Yet, I'm interrupted all day long by random mail arrivals. This is a concentration-killer.
My Macbook pro (Lion) starts up very slow. Many things seem to happen during startup. The screen goes small, blue, back and many times the loginscreen is coming up in a lower resolution. When I do a Pram reset it starts up with the correct resolution but after a couple of startups it goes back to 800x600 resolution (I guess). When I Log in the resolution is ok so only the login screen is a lower resolution. And if there is a solution beyond resetting the PRAM?

i just started using dropbox to sync my files. i tried uploading a 1GB file and it worked. however, while i was uploading it somehow 1.5 GB of RAM or so became used. i checked in activity monitor and it doesn't say what's using so much RAM in the list. nothing has changed in terms of memory usage in activity monitor, but 1.5GB of ram of is still being used.Â
Today when I turned on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2010 model) , the apple logo appeared as normal, but then the spinning gear and a progress bar appeared under it. Now everytime in turn my computer on, this progress bar will appear, get to about the 2/3 mark and then the computer will abruptly turn off. I have read articles about this saying that I have to format my hard drive. I want to know if there is a way to fix this problem with out having to format my hard drive.
I've run into a very nasty problem with my macbook (late 2007 normal macbook model I think). Whenever it closes, the monitor goes black. This is normal. What isn't normal is this: whenever I open it and then either start it/awaken it, it gives me the screen... and then the monitor turns the brightness off again! This happens randomly, I have to close and open my screen quite a few times to get it to work-even if I restart the computer. I don't what's causing this, or how to fix it, although I have a hunch that it's the hinge on the back; it started shortly (but not directly) after I replaced my CD drive... I have the tools and instructions needed to open my machine up if it's a fairly simple fix, but I need to know what's going on first.
I have a 5-year-old PowerBook G4. I remember I changed the battery about a year or two ago, because when I used to take it to classes in college, and use it unplugged, my laptop would shut off in less than an hour (more like ~30 min) when it reaches ~30%. After I got a new battery, it went back to normal, and lasted much longer. In the past couple of days, I noticed that within about 5-10 minutes of using my PB unplugged, battery goes from 100% --> ~85%, and then all of a sudden shuts down.
When I plug it back in to a power supply, and it starts back up, it starts recharging from 0%... this seems a little extreme. I haven't noticed this problem because I almost have it plugged in these days, as I usually use it at home or at work where I have a power supply available, and I use it for a few hour period at a time. Does this seem purely like a battery problem?! (ie. it's just time for a new battery...)
I am having problem to eject an external flash drive in my MacBook. After I eject the disk, the icon disappears normally, but re-appears instantly before I plug it out from the USB hub. So, every time I end up with an irritating warning sign.
Is there a way to stop remounting a disk once it is ejected from the system?
The flash drive I am having problem is actually not a generic flash drive but a mp3 player manufactured by Iriver - Iriver T5, which also work as a flash drive for me and a cross-plateform disk space for use in emergency.
I do not have this problem with other dedicated flash and external drivers.
Please share if you have any solution or thoughts toward the solutions.
For the last two weeks, when using Safari, the top bar which shows the word Safari, File etc (can't remember what it is called) disappears unless I move my cursor up to it. I have checked Safari preferences and System preferences and can't figure out how to stop it from disappearing. I suspect it is a check box.Â
I have tried to check the "view" option to hide/show and neither solves the problem.Â

since a few weeks, we regularly experience that the sound volume control does not show up in the screen title bar, and we cannot play music in iTunes or in youtube. I don't know if this is since i attached a usb Time machine backup disk or since when i upgraded from 10.7.2 to 10.7.3 The only way out is rebooting and then this works again, The sound volume control is back and i can listen music.Â

Has anyone noticed a missing User Picture after Shutdown?
I've had the same one for well over a year and then last week I noticed on start up at the User screen the picture was missing.I went into system preferences > users/groups > and pulled down the drp down menu besides the picture square and chose a small avatar picture to use. All seemed good. Shut the Mac down and then restarted again and it had gone again. Tried another picture and same thing. always had a picture from my library and not an Apple system one.
My address book flies up above the top of my screen when I open it. It will appear when I hit F3, but then it disappears again when I click on it to open the page. Â
I can move the application to different desktops, where I can see the very bottom of the window, but am unable to use the mouse to drag it down to where it can do me any good.Â
On a frustrating meter, it's probably a five-and-a-half, or six. It's been like this for several weeks, and I probably ought to get this figured out before too much longer.Â
My software all seems to be updated. I've force quit the application, rebooted the machine, and nothing seems to be giving me any satisfaction. Â
For some strange reason when I open Apps or Finder windows within OSX 10.7.4 on my MBP the menu bar at the top of the screen disappears randomly then reappears again. I've attached an image.
After a week of owning this great computer I closed the lid to put it to sleep last night (same as i do every night) and the sleep indicator light dimmed as it would when it goes to sleep. I heard the HD and fan turn off as normal. But as soon as the front light dimmed all the way the apple icon flashed for a split second and the HD started back up and the sleep indicator light stayed brightly lit for about 10-15 seconds. It would then dim again as if it was going to sleep and start this cycle all over again. I didn't realize this until i was laying in bed and heard my HD start up every few seconds.
I tried restarting the computer and nothing changed. Nothing is running in my dock except for finder. I tried putting it to sleep with the lid open and it went to sleep, but then just came back awake within a few seconds. I went to click shutdown and it restarted. I tried to shutdown once more and it just restarted. I did a hard shutdown and then turned it on and tried to put it to sleep and it still was the same....
I'm new to mac so I'm very naive with these still.
Edit: I'd also like to add that my computer now gets very very very hot on the bottom with nothing running. Not nearly as hot as a few days ago. I don't know if it's related.
