OS X :: Spotlight Search Field Sometimes Appears Out Of Place?
Aug 23, 2010I have not seen anyone address the following problem. Nevertheless, it absolutely annoys me, and I wonder if anyone knows how to fix it. Sometimes, when I press the normal COMMAND+SHIFT key sequence to use Spotlight, the Spotlight search field will drop down lower on the screen. It will still be on the correct side, but it will drop down near the middle of the screen. In other words, the Spotlight search field will not be attached to the menu bar in the upper-right corner (next to the clock and the day of the week) where it normally appears. However, during those instances, it will pop back into place if I do one of two things: 1) start typing into the Spotlight field anyway or 2) Change my resolution to 1680x1050. This really annoys me when it happens. Does anyone know how to fix this so that it never happens again? It doesn't happen a lot, but I don't want it to happen again, and I absolutely love using Spotlight. I'm a Spotlight addict. Also, if there's a fix, can someone tell me anything I can do to Snow Leopard, so that the Spotlight search field never pops out of place again?

May 18, 2012Very often I need to search a single track in an album and then I start my browsing just from that point, using the arrow keys. i.e. I did like this: select the search filed, type the keywords, select the track, empty the search field, press twice the tab key (one to activate the left column, the second one to activate the tracklist), in order to activate the selection I made and, eventually, use the arrow keys to browse the collection. Since some time ago, once that I've done my search, when I press the tab key, it activate the left column and then the tracklist, but it do not unselect the search field and so, if I use the arrow keys, the menu of the search field appears and there's no way to leave unselected the field.

Apr 4, 2012If you have a contact in Addressbook (AB) with a nickname, if you also use Apple Mail (AM) and create a new email and start to type the contact's email in the TO field, AM will finish your typing giving you a list of related possible email addresses to choose from. The problem is that in addition to the email addressk AM adds the contact's nickname as opposed to it's firstname/lastname or even business name. We need a preference for this, per contact.Â
Example:Â In AB you have a contact:Â
Name: Jon Doe
Company Doe Company
Nickname: The Doester
email: jon.doe@doecompany.comÂ
In AM you start to write an email:Â and type: "jon" and AM shows you a list of possible related emails one of which will be:Â "The Doester" [URL]Commentary: now if a casual email to a friend, this is OK. But what if this is a business oriented email and "The Doester" isn't appropriate? You can only stop the inclusion of "The Doester" by deleting it from the Nickname field in the AB. This is presumptuous on Apple's part, or a bug, that the Nickname should trump the first/lastname or company name.Â
I don't exactly know the answser to this. If we could easily choose which name to append in front of the email address (firstname/lastname, company name or nickname) that would be cool. Or maybe no name gets added if it has to be: all or nothing from a programming point of view. But having nickname as the primary, if it exists, can be a problem in certain correspondence IMHO.Â

Feb 23, 2012I am unable to use the search window on the right to get results when Google is selected as the search engine.I type in a search term and I am directed to a blank google search page. I have to type in the search term again, then I see a list of "hits". But when
I click on one of these hits I am not directed to the URL displayed. I have quit out of Safari and relaunched. I have rebooted my Mac. Neither changes the problem... This is a Google problem: I have the same symptoms when I use Safari on Windows XP. When I switch the search engine to Bing, the problems go away, for both platforms Has Google been hacked? Is this a Google attack on Safari?  How can I enter GoGoDuck as a search engine choice? Â

Aug 11, 2010there is a small chip behind the glass of my 27" imac. It's about the size of a small crumb or the eye of a small needle. It's hard to see, but it's definitely there. Today is my last day to get the imac replaced or repaired. I have a feeling if I bring it in that they will see there's no reason to swap out the entire imac, and if there is I would have to wait awhile because it's a custom high end one so they don't have the specsI'm worried if they swap the glass that it's just some 19 year old kid that does it and he won't be careful with the screen and will get dust, finger prints, etc. on the glass making it worse.

Let's say I load www.google.com, it appears in the safari window as usual.
Suppose I begin to type a search in the google search field at the top right of the safari window (not the one on the google page)
if when doing this the sentence is long for the search, at some point randomly, the rest of the text will be entered this time in the google search text field on the google page! (which is the very next text field) So when I hit enter it makes google search half of my request...
Safari changed the text field I was into with no warning. I want to say I do not press tab at any moment. This is annoying really, and this does not appear anywhere else than in Safari. It seems the issue is not systematic, but appears quite often.
I have no universal access setting except "enable access for assistive device" I had to check this box upon installing a software in the past but I can't remember what it was.Â

Mar 26, 2009I have an extremely frustrating and sporadic problem. I have no idea what triggers it and I have no idea how to check.Right now, whenever I roll my mouse over anything that should have an "action", it doesn't work. My dock doesn't magnify, menu rollovers on websites don't do anything, and my menu bar doesn't drop down or highlight when I roll my mouse over options. I have to hold my mouse button down, and then let it go when I want to click on something in my menu bar. I plugged in a different mouse, same problem. I restarted my machine, same problem. This has happened several time before and the funny thing is things all of a sudden return to normal.

When I open Safari it looks for a second as if everythings normal (search bar appears), and then it dissapears suddenly and only the Address field remains in it's place. (it takes up the whole screen now) I tried resetting safari, deleting extensions, repairing permissions and emptying the cache. Still can't see the search bar. Do I have to uninstall/reinstall Safari? The rest of the browsing experience is fine.

Safari :: Search Bar Now GREEK?
Jun 12, 2012Ever since I upgraded to 10.7.4 I've had some major annoyances rear their heads with my 2011 iMac. The issue I'm looking for help with, though it may seem small, is with the Safari search bar. I know there have been discussions before about this and I've always had a difficult relationship with the search bar as it is supposed to change to your 'local' search engine, e.g. for me that would be Google UK, yet it has often defaulted to Google US which means that searches can be a little less relevant at times. Anyway, for months things have been fine. The search bar defaulted to Google UK until the 10.7.4 update hit... All of a sudden my Google search bar now defaults to Google.com in GREEK...Â
Since I don't speak a word of Greek, I'm sure you can see how this has become an issue. I've tried all manner of things, resetting safari, changing language settings but have been unable to get it to change back. I tried changing to Bing search but to be honest, Google search in Greek is a **** of a lot more useful than Bing in English is, which I think says a lot. I did have greek as a secondary keyboard layout so that I could use the greek characters for my physics work but UK English has always been my default and I have since removed Greek yet the search bar stays the same. It's really becoming irritating now as every time I search it sets my whole Google experience to Greek with a cookie so any google.com service I use ends up in Greek and it's a pain to reset it.Â
