How I can go remount from Windows XP or 7 to Mac ?

Disk Utility initially showed the drive as mounted when I ran the application. I don't know what's happened as I did not unmount the drive.
Verify Disk and Repair Disk quit because of errors.
How can I get the drive to remount?
There's a CD in my mid-2009 13 inch Macbook that won't come out. It unmounts when I drag the icon to the trash/press the eject button, but won't come out. It just remounts and opens DVD player again.

I am having problem to eject an external flash drive in my MacBook. After I eject the disk, the icon disappears normally, but re-appears instantly before I plug it out from the USB hub. So, every time I end up with an irritating warning sign.
Is there a way to stop remounting a disk once it is ejected from the system?
The flash drive I am having problem is actually not a generic flash drive but a mp3 player manufactured by Iriver - Iriver T5, which also work as a flash drive for me and a cross-plateform disk space for use in emergency.
I do not have this problem with other dedicated flash and external drivers.
Please share if you have any solution or thoughts toward the solutions.
When i try to migrate my windows account with the Windows Migration Assistan, in OS Lion 10.7 i only see local accounts like Administrator, but not domains account... I run the migration assistant from the domain account that I want to migrate... Â

Running a Windows Storage server to have a central machine to run services of like iTunes, epbook server and printers. My biggest pain at the moment would be to print from my Mac Mini to the shared printers on the Windows server. Everything goes fine install canon drivers on the mac and connect to the printers vai LPD or SMB.With SMB I can do a print test page from the mac, as soon as I print anything the mac print status simply says sending print data on the windows server it says printing ... and that is that. The same happens for LPD, the only diffs is that the Windows machine is not seeing the print job.Â
What else can I do What server software could I then use on the server to have my iTunes centralised for Apple TV and Mac's so that Mac can actaully print I am new to the Mac world all is well... but this printing have 2 printers on the server and both are doing the same}

Just wondering if it would be a lighter load on the machine if I load windows xp versus windows 7. I mainly use outlook and various admin tools so needing Windows 7 isn't that necessary.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOK, I know that I can't run XP using Boot Camp under Lion and my new MacBook Pro - but can I use it running Parallels? I bought XP but have no desire to purchase Windows 7 at the outrageous prices that Microsoft charges. I got Parallels in a 'bundle' that I purchased through MacWorld, so I already have it.Â
Just wondering - before I go through the laborious task of finding my ancient XP disc.Â

My favorite feature on the mac has always been the ability to see all open windows with a simple click (F3 on my keyboard). I often have multiple word documents and multiple pdf files open, as well as two or three different browser windows, several image files, and who knows what else. It is very common for me to have 10-20 open windows and it was always a huge help to be able to see them all at once, with filenames that would pop up when hovering with the mouse. This feature made it incredibly easy to move from file to file and truly see everything on the desktop at once.Â
As far as I can tell, this is no longer possible with Lion and Mission Control. Now if I have multiple windows open in a single application and enter Mission Control I see them tiled over one another, without filenames displayed for any. Sure, I can see all the applications I have open, but what good is that if I can't see which files I have? It's making it very difficult to work effectively-- basically I have to minimize each window one by one until I find the one I want.Â
Can anyone using Lion tell me how to see a graphic representation of ALL open windows, with filenames? Like I could in the good old days? Or is there something like a "see all open files" ability in Finder?Â

I'm using a 2011 Macbook Air running Lion 10.7.2.I open a group of photos using Preview. I right click one and select "open in new window". It opens. I decide to close said window by clicking the red X button. Nothing happens. I click the red X button of the main preview window with the pane of thumbnails on the side. It closes immediately. I click on the red X of the other window again. Still nothing. I go to Preview>Quit Preview. I get 10-20 seconds of pinwheel spinning. Finally, it closes.I've also noticed Lion hanging sometimes, especially when booting up.

At the moment I have Windows 7 32 bit OS. I've always wanted either an iMac, or atleast the Mac OS. I've recently found out it's only £20.99, and i've always thought it was a lot more than that, which is a bargain! The only thing which is stopping me from buying it at the moment, is that certain programs which I use reguarlarly won't work on Mac, and I really need those programs. Is their anyway I could dual-boot it with Windows 7, so I give Windows 7 say only 8gb of my hard drive, and Mac the rest? Â

I have a Logitech webcam that I want to share between a Mac mini with lion and a windows 7 desktop. I used to be able to share using a Belkin peripheral switch. But I can't use it in lion because it runs on PowerPC. Any ideas for a replacement for it so I don't have to take out the USB cord on the camera every time I want to switch computers?

I can't seem to find a way to close all windows in Preview.
Can somebody try this and see if they get the same result I do.
1. Copy an image into the clipboard.
2. Open Preview
3. Hold down command-N for about 20 seconds.Â
You should end up with dozens of windows with the image that you copied.
Now, try to close them.Â
I've unchecked 'Restore windows when quitting and re-openng apps' in System Preferences
I've typed in the 'defaults write com.apple.Preview NSQuitAlwaysKeepsWindows' hack in the terminal window
I've quit Preview with the 'option' button held down and 'Quit and Close All Windows' showing in the menu.Â
No matter what I do, the windows keep coming back every time I start Preview.Â
This 'force restore' feature of Lion is starting to get really annoying.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have recently got a macbook air and i am trying to have file sharing with both pc's unfortunately whatever i try does no allow both pc's to see each other. If i try the connect to server method using smb then log in screen just shakes and wont accept a valid login offer. The windows pc also does not see the mac in the network which i guess does not help. On several forums there is a suggestion that this used to work on earlier versions of apple os.

I work with Windows all the time. I was wondering if Mac OS allows different account for each user to log in locally, able to join a domain, and capable of making system image of its OS for restoration if needed. Does Mac OS has something similar to Windows group policy where the admin can control almost anything in that computer?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo i have a Mid 2010 iMac 27" - 2.93 Ghz. i7, 16 GB, with a 2 TB Drive, and 10.7.3 running on it. About a month ago, my Superdirve broke, and i cant install anything. As i need my Computer due to work, i bouth an Asus BD + DVD + CD - Combo-Drive-thingy, which works perfectly fine, BUT now i wanted to install Win8 Consumer Preview over my Win7.
Firstly i couldnt, because you cant do that with the Installer on 32 bit, to install 64 bit Then i tried it via Bootcamp, so i had to delete the old drive. Then i wanted to make a new one via the Bootcamp Assistent, downloaded the Drivers, burnt them, and put the Win8 DVD in the Asus Drive. Then it told me to put the Windows DVD in, because he didnt recognise it from the Asus Drive. But i cant, because the Superdrive is broken. So i rebooted, and i got into the Windows Install Thingy, but aswell this didnt recognise the DVD because the Drive is only connected via
2 USB Ports. So next, i made a Win8 Install USB-Flashdrive, and this should work perfectly fine normally, but just aswell, it didnt recognise it. So then i installed rEFIt, and tried to get to the installer with that, somehow. no chance.

I own an unused copy of Windows XP professional and i want to add a new partition on my Macbook Pro so i can install Windows XP on it and have OSX and Windows on one machine. But with the new version of Bootcamp that comes with OSX Lion, i cant install XP because its not supported. When i put the Windows XP Installation disc and click the 'Install" button on Bootcamp, it doesn't recognize the disc because Windows XP isn't supported on this version of Bootcamp. I am also unable to downgrade back to Snow Leopard. Is there anyway i can get Windows XP to work on my Lion based machine without downgrading my Mac OS or using a VM?

I usually have four apps running during the day. I keep them in their separate windows.
Is there a way to open the app in it's own window? Everytime I start an an, it opens in window number 1 and then I have to move it to it's own window. I know this isn't a huge chore, but it does take time and if you do it every morning, it gets tiresome.

I have turned off Restore Windows in Lion, but everytime I start up it opens apps I have shut down.I find this function is not useful. I would rather have a manual restore that I can call when I want.Sort of like the Go to Recent Folders menu.

I have an issue with pdfs that I make in OS X Lion 10.7.4. If I create a pdf through the Print dialog I get a perfectly OK document. If I pass the pdf to a Windows user (Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3) and they open it using Adobe Reader or Acrobat 9, the pdf seems to be masked with random black rectangles. These appear where there was an indent or tab in the original document, but not in every case, and they are also randomly distributed in other parts of the doc.Â
I have also used the method of taking a screenshot as pdf, with the same result. Using the excellent Skitch to take a pdf screenshot gives a different problem, with Acrobat displaying a uniform grey box, so no joy there.Â

I am attempting a Boot Camp install of Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on my mid-2010 13" Macbook Pro running Lion 10.7.3. Everything goes fine until after the first restart and Windows is finalizing install. Everything locks up. I have tried 7 times with the same result using two separate Win 7 install discs that work fine on PCs so it's not the discs.
