I work with Windows all the time. I was wondering if Mac OS allows different account for each user to log in locally, able to join a domain, and capable of making system image of its OS for restoration if needed. Does Mac OS has something similar to Windows group policy where the admin can control almost anything in that computer?
View 4 RepliesI am not sure how it happened but after upgrading the gmail account, the user accounts were changed from standard users to Mobile Me users. None of the users has ever had that type of account, and I am trying to figure out how to get it back to a standard user account. When the user attempts to log in, it asks for the user name, but also the Mobile Me user name (which they do not have). to make it worse, Mobile Me is no longer accpting new users, so I annot just add an account and log in using the new info.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have recently noticed that all of my accounts have become Standard accounts. I no longer have Administrator privileges for my computer (MacBook). I tried going through Root to change my normal account back to Administrator but according to my accounts preference pane even my Root account is listed as standard. I can check the allow user to be an administrator on this computer but it does not save this preference and will un-check once another user is selected or the window is closed.
I have also tried creating a new account through single user mode but again to no avail.How would I go about fixing this problem? I would like to install some new software and some software is no longer working the way it once did since this change.
After re-installing Lion, my login accounts disappeared.I can only see the Guest account.However, when I boot with Windows, I can see the directories of my accounts.Currently, I can't login Mac OS.

I have around 10 different e-mail addresses that I check in Apple mail.All are POP3-configured, but now I want to change ALL of those account types to IMAP. On exactly the same server.Is this possible in any way...? I see older posts on this but nothing new, and I was hoping maybe newer versions of Mac OS X have solved this. I have a big family, and often my kids forget to log out of their accounts; eventually, the machine slows to a crawl for all the apps they collectively leave open. Is there a way to automatically force accounts to log off after a certain amount of idle time, or a way for me to "bulk" log them off? Restarting the machine or individually logging into each account is one way to do it, but it sure is inconvenient when all I want to do is hop on for five minutes to check email etc.

Ive tried repairing permissions, creating a new mail account, and creating a new user account but to no avail. I get no error messages, and all the information for all the accounts are correct it just simply displays the triangle exlaimation but clicking on it, clicking "Take accounts online..." and clicking on the "Get Mail" button do absolutely nothing.Im on OS X Lion with all the latest updates.

last month our Xserve G5 with Leopard Server which controlled user accounts in our computer labs died. We replaced it with a Mac mini server (that includes Lion Server) –by the way, this is the first server that I ever setup–.During initial configuration, the server was fully updated to Lion server 10.7.3, and stablished as an OD Master. I didn't import anything from the old server, so all accounts and groups and preferences and everything have been defined from scratch.Everything was working good until I finish the setup and try to connect from one of our Leopard client machines. I configure that machine with Directory Utility with settings from the server, and the server responds just fine, the client sets everything up automatically for authentication and contacts. Everything seems to be normal until I log out and try to connect with one of the network accounts.The account will not login, the login window just shakes and does nothing. Odd enough, the login window tells that network accounts are available (captures are in Spanish). When I login again as a local admin account, I check Directory Utility and when I look at the LDAP configuration, in the search & maps tab of the window, I find these two red registers (UserAuthenticationData and OLCLDIFConfig). I don't know if this is related to the problem, but this is where I get stuck and don't know where else to go.

I have 3 mail accounts (POP), and very often I receive mail that has been sent to the wrong accountI have therefore implemented one rule that has multiple conditions (based on sender, or subject, etc) and basically instructs mail to move said message(s) to account #3 however after I set up the rule, selected my all my messages in acct #1 and ran the rule I noticed that some messages were sent 20 times (I kid you not) to acct #3. How can I isolate a rule so that it only applies to a specific account? Else said, how can I be sure that the rule does not trigger a giant feedback loop?Â

Does anyonme know if when you have multiple mac products (i.e. I have an iPad, iPhone, Macbook and an iMac) and you have the same mail accounts set up on all of them if can set it that when you read an eamil on one device it appears as read on all the other devices? Annoying having to go through all 4 devices to "read" the emails.

I've just added the macbook pros that were recently purchased, (NOT retina Displays) boo i know.. THey are in AD able to place them and moved them around into different groups. I'm able to sign in when i'm on the network. WHEN I'M OFF THE NETWORK IT DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO SIGN IN. In windows it builds a profile for you so i checked that it does create a profile folder under users but still not able to sign in (locally)? not really locally?

I have 4 accounts set up in Mail.app... Yahoo, GMail, Hotmail and iCloud. I want to enable push on them just like I did on my iPhone 4. I did gmail push on iPhone using the gmail exchange server. But its not known to work on the mac. So I tried instructions here and that magically worked for gmail but icloud and yahoo failed to get the email pushed.

Every file created within the Shared folder is automatically a "read-only" for all other users. How can I make all users able to edit all files within the Shared folder? - The "Apply to enclosed items" does only apply settings to existing files. This means that for every new file you add, you have to press "Apply to enclosed items". - Surely there must be a way to apply the folders setting to all future content? All I want is for this folder to function as any external hard drive; accessible by all accounts without any restrictions!

My issue was that my wife and I both have separate Gmail accounts, but when she would use the Mac Mail program on our MBP, when she would send emails, it showed her name, but came from my Gmail account, and when people would respond to her emails, they would come to my email address. The issue is that according to MacMail, you are using the same outgoing Gmail smtp server, so you need to differentiate the two.
Go to Mail > Preferences
In your accounts, click the drop down that has Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), and click "Edit SMTP Server List...". When that window comes up, you'll see two different entries for Gmail, with the same outbound SMTP. Click on them individually, and you'll see the different Gmail account credentials.
Change the description of each (I changed mine to my and my wife's names, to easily identify which SMTP went with which mail account) and ensure that your Gmail credentials are accurate. Click Ok. Now, under each of the Gmail accounts, change the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop down to match each of your Gmail accounts, and click the "Use only this server" box.
