May 9, 2012So i have a Mid 2010 iMac 27" - 2.93 Ghz. i7, 16 GB, with a 2 TB Drive, and 10.7.3 running on it. About a month ago, my Superdirve broke, and i cant install anything. As i need my Computer due to work, i bouth an Asus BD + DVD + CD - Combo-Drive-thingy, which works perfectly fine, BUT now i wanted to install Win8 Consumer Preview over my Win7.
Firstly i couldnt, because you cant do that with the Installer on 32 bit, to install 64 bit Then i tried it via Bootcamp, so i had to delete the old drive. Then i wanted to make a new one via the Bootcamp Assistent, downloaded the Drivers, burnt them, and put the Win8 DVD in the Asus Drive. Then it told me to put the Windows DVD in, because he didnt recognise it from the Asus Drive. But i cant, because the Superdrive is broken. So i rebooted, and i got into the Windows Install Thingy, but aswell this didnt recognise the DVD because the Drive is only connected via
2 USB Ports. So next, i made a Win8 Install USB-Flashdrive, and this should work perfectly fine normally, but just aswell, it didnt recognise it. So then i installed rEFIt, and tried to get to the installer with that, somehow. no chance.

Feb 6, 2012I am attempting a Boot Camp install of Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on my mid-2010 13" Macbook Pro running Lion 10.7.3. Everything goes fine until after the first restart and Windows is finalizing install. Everything locks up. I have tried 7 times with the same result using two separate Win 7 install discs that work fine on PCs so it's not the discs.

Jul 31, 2009I tryed to install windows xp on my mac and my disk was too scratched so the install failed. So i held down the power button on my mac until it turned off. Big mistake. Now whenever it boot up, it says press any button to boot from cd. I tryed installing rEFit, it installs but doesn'ty boot into the boot loader.

Apr 12, 2012Ever since I downloaded iplayer - my mac has been running slow. I have followed a few tips to remove it and all other related files - but it still runs low (spinning wheel of death) and now pdf's dont download correctly (I guess I have deleted too much).
My ideal would be to start from scrach - although I want to keep my itunes and iphotos files as well as my documents. Is there a way to reload back to factory settings then add selected programs and folders from timemachine? I am in the process of timemachine backing up everything now.

Apr 10, 2009I searched for a while trying to find the answer but did not find it. I just installed Vista Business via Bootcamp. I am not able to access the internet or anything. If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? Or am I just missing something easier?

It was, surprisingly a blank CD. I put in my second one. It did show BOOTCAMP this time, but it only had the options 'Remote Install Mac OS X' and 'DVD or CD sharing'. I couldn't install them. What is wrong with this. I am certain that the package wasn't fake, since I have the Macbook Pro here, but why doesn't the install CDs work?

But I did not know why I cannot reboot the Windows after the distribution completed (I had a Sumsung mobile DVD-ROM which works well when I use it to install apps). With my old Macbook 2010, of course, which had a DVD-ROM inside, it will automatically reboot into Windows installation . According to the Boot Camp, the 1st step is to make a ISO-image of Windows 7.

Would you like to update?" I say yes and it says "The requires resoruce update is missing." and if I click no it says "The operation is aborted." or something.

I read up on the error online, and most people suggested issues with parallels or needing to use idefrag. I had parallels on my machine at one point, but am not sure if there are any problem folders still hiding somewhere. Any tips on that part?I ran idefrag overnight last night. When I booted the machine up this morning, I launched it again to verify that the disk was defraged. Boot camp still doesn't want to play.

Feb 7, 2009so i have a windows XP professional disk, SP2 and all. i am trying to install windows, i get as far as partitioning the disk, but once it says "please insert XP disk" i do that, and it will think for a few minutes, and make a loud noise [coming from the mac] then a message pops up and says 'please insert installation disk.' the disk is brand new, what am i doing wrong? should i be partitioning the windows side larger?

Nov 23, 2010I have just installed Windows 7 via bootcamp and everything went smoothly, the only problem is that i have lost my DVD of snow leopard and want to install the 3.2 drivers on windows 7, however it is to my understanding that i need to install 3.0 from the DVD first. Is there any way around this without ordering another copy of snow leopard? ?25 might not seem a lot but on a student budget i would rather not shell out.

May 13, 2009I have parallels 4 installed and I want to install windows XP. My school gives us legal copies of windows 98 and a windows xp upgrade. However, neither of these comes in the form of a CD image. They are both .exe files. Parellels asks for a CD or CD image. Is there a way to install windows 98 from an .exe in parallels?
And if so will I be able to use the windows xp upgrade once i have windows 98 installed? I haven't yet tried creating a CD image with the exe file on it. I don't know if this would work because it's all in one file and not a typical windows install disk.

I have two drives for my mini, one in use and one in an external case; unfortunately, neither have room for everything plus Windows. If the answer to this question is no, then I'll buy a bigger drive. I'd just like to avoid this if possible (I already have a ton of external drives and not enough ports to plug them into).

I have installed a partition using BootCamp of 45GB but once it prompts me to insert the Windows disk, I insert it but after a few seconds the machine ejects the disk without ever mounting or seemingly recognizing the disk.
I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit from a disk.
Can anyone offer any insight or help me figure out what the problem is? I have already tried rebooting and that doesn't work.

Currently my MBP17 (alu) has two HD's installed but they're not RAIDed, the other unit is simply there are added storage. For many years I've never had the need to install Windows until now and since there's no internal optical drive I've been installing everything from the external Lacie Blu-Ray drive and it's been fine; up until now - but maybe it's because I've not tried it before?
Problem:
Anyway... Does anyone know would it be possible to install Windows from a external optical drive connected via Firewire? Because whenever I try, all I get a flashing icons (the usual grey apple logo then a no access mark followed by a folder with a question mark in a folder).
What I do:
1. Start bootcamp, select Install Windows.
2. System restarts
3. Press and hold option key on boot up.
4. then select the Windows DVD
After, the system shows flashing icons.
a. grey apple logo
b. circle with a line through it
c. grey folder with a question mark.
d. (repeat from a)
