How To Connect Macbook Air With Lion Os To A Windows 7 Pc
Apr 28, 2012
I have recently got a macbook air and i am trying to have file sharing with both pc's unfortunately whatever i try does no allow both pc's to see each other. If i try the connect to server method using smb then log in screen just shakes and wont accept a valid login offer. The windows pc also does not see the mac in the network which i guess does not help. On several forums there is a suggestion that this used to work on earlier versions of apple os.

I am having issues commecting my late 2011 model MacBook Pro to a Windows 2003 server on my internal network using the AFP protocall. I am able to connect to the server using SMB however. I have a am running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 operating system and the server can be found and pinged but when I try and connect to it using AFP I get the error: There was a problem connecting to the server "<my server ip address here>" The server may not exist or is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection and then try again.Â
On this network my roomate also has a late 2011 model MacBook Pro which is able to connect to the server no problem using both protocalls. He has completely disconnected his computer from the server to double check there was not at overload of traffic on the afp. The only difference in his machine vs mine is that he is running Mac OS X 10.7.2 which is pretty close in versioning.Â

I have two Lion 10.7.3 servers joined to my company's AD. These servers provide SMB/AFP file services to users. They have been working successfully until a week ago when a change in AD was made. Now Windows (7 or XP, doesn't matter) clients cannot connect to the server using the DNS name, only the IP address. Mac OS X clients are not affected by this, i.e. they can use the DNS name fine. All clients are on AD too. What I observe from a Windows 7 client is, I open Windows Explorer, type \xserver in the address bar, hit enter, & it denies my connection immediately. If I do the same thing with the IP address (\10.0.1.10), it lets me in immediately.
For Windows clients, I have tried both the short DNS name as well as the FQDN, & neither work. The DNS name on the server itself is fine, verified by "changeip -checkhostname". Whatever changed in AD caused the Lion servers to start doing this because they both started exhibiting this behavior at the same time. The only info I've been able to get regarding what changed in AD from the domain admins was "We changed the UPN fromuser@domain.example.com to Firstname.Lastname@example.com", in other words, to their email address. In the system logs, here's an attempt to connect from a Windows client using the short DNS name:
Feb 20 09:24:39 xserver rpcsvchost[32619]: sandbox_init: com.apple.msrpc.netlogon.sb succeeded
Feb 20 09:24:39 xserver sandboxd[32620] ([32619]): rpcsvchost(32619) deny file-read-metadata /Library/Managed Preferences
Feb 20 09:24:39 xserver sandboxd[32620] ([32619]): rpcsvchost(32619) deny file-read-metadata /private/var/root
Feb 20 09:24:39: --- last message repeated 3 times ---
[Log] .....
Why only the DNS name doesn't work.

I've installed the drivers, and when I start up in Windows, neither the internet or the wireless pick up.
Using Windows Vista Home Premium. The little wireless icon in the tray just has the big X, so it's literally picking up nothing. I also can't connect via ethernet.

After my MBP has hibernated, I cannot connect to my SMB shares on my Win7 media center. I can relaunch finder, turn airport on and off, etc, but it will not connect to the server until after I restart the computer. It sees the Win7 box in Finder and lists it under "Shared," but even though I have a button for "Connect As," pressing it does no good. Finder just says "Connecting" and will never get any farther.
If I use the "connect to server" dialogue in finder rather than the shared list in the sidebar, the effect is the same, it come up with a "connecting" message that never succeeds and I cannot close.
The computer is a late 2007 MBP running 10.6. Its connecting wirelessly to an Airport Extreme, and the Win7 box has a wired connection to the Airport Extreme. Since it will reconnect just fine after a reboot, I'm certain the problem is with the MBP, and not the server or the router.

My Canon MG5250 seems to be connected to my wifi as the blue light at the side shows yet my MB cannot detect the printer. The odd thing is that it has detected the scanner. I reset the printing system once my MB kept on saying a connection error occured every time I tried to print and now it can't detect it again.I've reset the LAN settings on my printer, I tried to restore from Time Machine and reconnected my printer but my MB still doesn't detect it. Once I used the Canon IJ Network tool and it detected my printer but did another search before allowing me to select and then the printer disappeared. How do I reconnect my printer? [code]

Both wi-fi and ethernet connect fine (showing IP addresses...green lights in Network Preferences), however, browser or other internet connected applications will not connect to the internet.
Seems like I have tried every solution I could find here on discussions.
My Macbook will not connect to my neighbors' network. Other computers and devices on my network are working perfectly. Ping is inconsistent...everything from timeout to 20msÂ

I can see this seems to be a common problem, and it is amazing that there seems to be no consensus (that I can find) on what the underlying problem is.I have two Macbook Pro 13's.Pretty much identical setups (Lion 1.7.3 etc.).One, works flawlessly connecting to Wi-Fi whether that is my Airport Express, or any other open or closed networks. The second, will continually refuse to connect to the Airport Express or even a wide-open 802.11b network. It will continually pop up the "connection timeout" erorr, and refuse to connect.Iphones etc all connect perfectly.Even when connecting to the iPhone hotspot - the same error.
This will happed consistently, until I give up.I can leave it for a day (use ethernet), and come back tomorrow, and voila - it will connect.I may be able to use it for a day or several, but once it decides to 'fail', there is virtually nothing I can do to bring it back it will continue to fail over and over again. All updates are applied, I've cleaned out all other networks etc from the list.Tried all civilized things that I can.Anyone have any other insight? I was thinking to yank the wi-fi module from the working notebook to the non-working one as a test.

It worked a month ago. But now, since the update, I can't get my MacBook and printer to hook up and play nice. They're both on the same network, and both say they're connected okay, but the Mac can't find the printer wirelessly. Works fine via USB. I've rebooted the router, rebooted the Mac, rebooted the printer, and even completely uninstalled and then reinstalled the HP printer software, along with that update from the Apple support site. Its like there's a wall blocking their communication. Weird.

2.8ghz Al iMac running Leopard 10.5.2 I can see my windows PC under "shared", but I cannot connect to it. After entering the username and password used on the PC, I get "connection failed". If I try to connect using the "command-K" method, I get an message saying "you do not have permission to access this server" after entering my username and password. I also cannot connect as a guest even though I have enabled the guest account on the PC. The PC and iMac are in the same workgroup. I have file sharing turned on the iMac and can access the iMac from my PC with no problems at all. In Tiger, I was able to access to the PC using "command-K". Any ideas? I'm stumped. I feel like I've tried everything.

I'm a mac noob. Actually I'm pretty technologically challenged full stop. But I got a mac about a month ago. There's not problem connecting to the internet, it picked it up straight away. However I live in a house full of windows computers which are all wirelessly networked. Sometimes I can connect to them (for no rhyme or reason) and sometimes I can't. I don't particularly care that I can't reach them but I need to be able to connect to my printer. I just plugged my printer straight in the USB and it worked so they're compatible. But my network and computers aren't in the side bar of the finder at the moment. I try clicking "go" and then "connect to server" but I have no idea what my server address is. Is it my IP address or what? as I said I'm technologically challenged.

I've recently bought my first mac (mac mini) and frequently access a shared driver that is hosted on a Windows server. Until today I have no issues by going into finder and typing
smb://ip or hostname here
However, today I get:
"There was an error connecting to the server "server". Check the server name or IP address and try again".
The same problem occurs when I try to access it by IP address. I can ping the particular Windows computer just fine in terminal by both host name and IP. I know that sharing works because it's fine on other Windows computers. It seems the problem is in Finder. I have made no changes at all since the last time it worked.

I've looked high and low for the answer to this with no luck. I've mapped a lot of my windows network shares at work on my MacPro running leopard without problems. However, I'm extremely stuck trying to connect to the last one which is located on a special DMZ (demilitarized zone) server. On my windows machine I simply use the ip method and I'm prompted for login credentials. It's important to note that the login credentials for this DMZ network share are different than my usual work domain login (the Mac uses that same login with no issues).

I used to be able to connect my old Mac Pro and the Windows 8 machine. It was quirky and not especially reliable, but I could make it work most of the time. They are plugged into the same router. I have set all the preferences in "Sharing" as prescribed and as they used to work — File Sharing is on, SMB and AFP are both selected for my user account. The other computer shows up in "Network" on both machines, but they just won't connect.Â
