OS X V10.7 Lion :: What Changes Occur To Machine After Join The Company Domain
Apr 26, 2012
I've been considering joining my mac to the company windows domain but I'm not sure what the outcome might be. Before I do that, I want to know what is going to change, be better, be worse, etc. Will it streamline connecting to server shares? Will my local profile still be available if I want to revert back?Â
I recently purchased a new MacBook pro with Mac OS X, I updated the OS to the latest release which is 10.7.3. I need to join (bind) a MS Windows server 2008 Domain, but when I try to bind I get below error:
Unable to add server.
The daemon encountered an error processing request (10002)
I searched the internet for a solution; most suggestions refer to sync the clock with the domain clock as Kerberos protocol is unable to authenticate. I cannot find a option to sync the clock with the domain clock, how I do that?
I've just set up DNS on Lion Server and whereas previously I could connect to a system on my network by the hostname (e.g. via ssh), using the Lion Server DNS requires the fully-qualified name. Is this by design? I've checked all my settings and it all seems to be correct. Â
I have been receiving the shut down signal continually every ~6 minutes now for two weeks. Apple care is unable to fix the problem....did the OS reload, and other permissions fixes without success.
I would like to know if I'm legally allowed to use a screenshot of my iCal week view as the logo of my company/website. Although just starting, I intend my website to become popular, and would like not to have any legal issues with Apple on that matter.
we have a mac server running and have a windows based (XP) machine logging on to the domain. is there a way to enable offline files on the mac server so that a copy is saved on the windows machine and when the user relogs on to the domain the files get syncd?
Can anyone help me regarding using Yahoo chatrooms? When I try to join a chatroom using yahoo messanger is askes what name I want to use but, it doesn't give me a list of rooms so I can join.
it's been a few days now and it's starting to bother me, now sometimes when I click the trackpad to click on something I have to click harder or multiple times. This doesn't occur with tap to click. I have Applecare, my MBP is 15'' latest model 2.8ghz.
My company has one mac user with a Macbook Air, we have a Windows 2008 r2 domain.I'm wondering if it is worth joining him to the domain, what benefits are there for a mac user? We use Exchange 2007 and change our passwords every 90 days. One concern is when the user is out of the office the cached password can become out of sync with the domain password.
I have not set up ssl before so i have a very basic question. I would like to support my Mac Lion server based email with a basic SSL cert that was provided with my domain name.Â
When setting up the certificate would i set the dNSName to  domainname.com or to server.domainname.comÂ
My mail server host name is set to server.domainname.com so i would assume this is the correct one, but emails are addressed to name@domainname.com so
I want to be sure i am setting this correctly before i generate the csr
Here again dealing with how OS X deals with .local domains I think. Was previously bound and all was working fine. Have just updated to 10.7.4 When trying to login using the "Other User" the button stays red and says Network accounts unavailable. I can ping domain server by name and IP.Permissions have been rebuilt.
Have rebound. Had a problem at first unbinding inside the Open Directory Utility as it said it could not connect with the domain and an unused account would be left if a forced unbind was done. Tried again by using the minus button instead of the Unbind button and it worked without any message.
So then binded to the domain and all looked good. Green button next to Network Account Server in the Users and Groups.

I have binded my Lion system to AD. I have configured Mac local update server also. When i run software update on lion it asks for Domain controller passwordÂ
Is there is any way for allow domain user to run software update on mac
Normally, you can create a DNS record that points to the zone itself, e.g.:Â
@Â Â 10800 IN AÂ Â Â 196.197.200.201Â
How do you accomplish that on a Mac OSX Lion Server? The DNS requires you to enter a hostname and it does not accept "@" as the hostname as it normally appears in the zone file. (manually modifying the host file does not work - I tried that ;-) )Â
Im running Lion 10.7.4 and am connected to a .local domain.Â
I am also running VMWare Fusion on the same machine with Windows 7. neither Lion or Windows 7 are joined to the domain. The windows 7 VM browses the internet perfectly but lion is painfully slow. My IP's are DHCP assigned and the search domain is xxxx.localÂ
The VM is using bridged not NAT which is why the VM is perfming perfectly. I know its something to do with the .local but cant change the TLD here so need a fix. Â
I have been unable to find any references on how to best automate certain "tasks" in Lion so that I can do the following:Â
create predefined DNS names based upon the clients domain name create predefnined web address based upon the just created DNSÂ
For example.... We have the customer "Sammy's Flower Garden" and his domain is "sammysflowergarden.com". At the command line, I would type:
$ clientsetup sammysflowergarden.com This would then create a base folder structure (this part has already been written)ClientDomains    -    S         -    sammysflowergarden.com              -    production              -    staging              -    archive              -    design                   -    template    Â
[code]....
From what I have read, alot of modifications outside of the Lion serveradmin tooling can result in some rather unusual if not nasty behaviour. If this is true, then I would assume that I could not just write out to a file in /var/named/ and have it automaticly picked up by the server? The same for the apache instance? I still want to be able to use the GUI interface when needed. Â
I have MAC OS X 10.7.3 After joined to Windows Domain 2008 R2 and reboot system - i have not items, where is i must enter domain credentials. But, if i login as local user, and logoff - i have item for entering domain credentials. Why this item not show me after restart? How i can fixed it?
I just installed Lion 10.7.4 named my computer "fx6800". Then I joined my Windows 2003 Server domain with no problems. After that I could not log on to domain with one of my windows 7 machines because it had the same computer ID. Ok no problem I re joined the domain and re binded with the Win 7 machine and then un binded my Mac Lion machine then re-binded with a different computer ID. No problem both machines can log on to AD with separate computer accounts. Then I notice when I opened terminal it was showing the old computer ID. No problem I fixed it With sudo scutil --set HostName "new host name". Â
Then when I go to select file sharing in the description to the right under File Sharing On: it shows the path to tha machine is fx6800.domainname.local which is the original computer ID. Also when I select remote login and I believe it shows username@fx6800.domainname.local. I have searched for 2 days and have not come up with anything. I am sure if I reinstall everything it should fix it but I would like to save the time.
I'm trying to setup a Lion Server as an internet server - not as a web server - I need access to a different port. When I use the Server UI to go to Web, I can select to edit my domain name but then in the edit window, the Domain Name field is blank, and I can't change anything such as the port, SSL Cert, etc. As best I can tell, I have the DNS setup but I'm not sure I've done it correctly. I can add a second domain name and can edit the details for that. I'd hoped I could delete the first one or swap them but no luck. I can't access the domain name from outside the LAN but it may have just not propagated yet. I can access the IP address and do see the default home page.
i've setted up my mini server as "server.domain.private"because i don't want it to be published on the internet by default, i want to have control on wich webapp is published.my main goal is to have a new Vhosts wich is serving only the webapps i need to be running and ,why not, hosting multiple VhostS enabling just some (or one) webapps each [url]). in other words: i want control on what is published where and how in order to publish Profile Manager i did: - created a new virtual host on the web service called "server.public-domain.com"- enabled the webapp on that Vhost from terminal as found in: [url] using this command "webappctl start [url]"- restarted the whole server but this seems not to work as expected.. should it ??? after some dirty work on the apache config (copy/paste from the original vHost of some "proxypass" and "balancemembers" and "include" regarding devicemngmt) i got it to ask me for password when browsed from the outside world, BUT after login it will redirect my browser to "server.domain.private" wich is obviously not working from outside.Â

When i try to migrate my windows account with the Windows Migration Assistan, in OS Lion 10.7 i only see local accounts like Administrator, but not domains account... I run the migration assistant from the domain account that I want to migrate... Â
Im trying to order a macbook as a company - but cant find the right place to do it, I cannot find a place where I can just order in the company's name - Am I just missing the place, or?
I own a small lighting rental company that rents mainly to the film industry. I am looking for some software that will assist in making invoices as well as to keep our business more organized in general (accounting, expenses, etc).
My main issue right now is that I spend all day writing up invoices manually. One piece of equipment may contain 20 accessories (all with different rental rates) so I really need a program that has excellent "autofill" functions within it's invoicing. Some of my competitors use "Peachtree" but I don't believe they make one for MAC. I would prefer not to have to run something on Virtual PC.
The other factor is that I have only one other business partner who runs the company with me. Since we often bring in jobs through our two remote workstations (laptops) we need software that we can synch together throughout the day. Basically, we need our two laptops to be in communication so that whatever expenses/invoices/etc my partner enters into his laptop will be reflected on my computer as well.
I'm preparing for a job interview and want to put the Company's logo on my PowerPoint presentation. Simple cut and paste didn't work so how do I do it?Â

My macbook is able to connect to my company's VPN and intranet via wifi hotspot on my iPad. However, it will not connect to the intranet if I use my office ADSL via router, even though it connects to the VPN. Is there something wrong with my settings that is preventing my macbook from connecting to the intranet via VPN using an ADSL connection?
I type with two fingers and must look often at the keyboard. My three year old Black MacBook is easy on the eyes. Because it's all black, no problem looking at the keyboard. The MacBookPro has the shiny metal on the top case and around the keys.  Because of retinal fatigue when looking at the KB, one gets afterimages and it's uncomfortable to look at contrasting items. I'm still using only a three year old black Mac Book for this reason.  It's just wrong to have shiny bright metal reflecting in one's face.Â
Is there a company which will make the metallic top of the MBP be black ?  If not, muliple black electrical tapestrips would be cheap short-term solution. Because Apple is not contemplating a Black MacBookPro.
How do I delete or wipe all information on the MBA so I can return it to my company. I would like it to be similar to when the MBA was taken out of the box. It did not come with any disks to reinstall the system so I am not sure what I am doing
