I have been receiving the shut down signal continually every ~6 minutes now for two weeks. Apple care is unable to fix the problem....did the OS reload, and other permissions fixes without success.

I reset my PRAM yesterday to fix some issues with videos being choppy. It has helped somewhat in that regard, but I've noticed a new issue with my display becoming dimmed. I have my screen saver set to kick on after 5 minutes of inactivity. My display is set to turn off after 15 mins. My display is dimming, however, after 2 minutes of inactivity? It's very frustrating, and is actually causing me headaches because of the differences in brightness.

For some time now mail.app takes over 3 minutes to quit. Whenever I try to shut down my iMac the shutdown is aborted because mail.app has not closed so I have to wait until mail.app closes and then shut down.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I am having issues with the screensaver setting, it comes on every time I reach the log-in page while booting, and instead of turning on after 'x' minutes of inactivity it just gets turned on after 'x' minutes. Means if I slide it to 5 minutes, I get the screensaver on after 5 mins, be it doing work or watching a movie in it.

I have an Early 13" MacBook Pro It seems that for some reason the Disk Utility is the root cause and I'm guessing that System Information queries Disk Utility for it's information while Finder does its own query. Maybe? At any rate I'd really like to resolve this issue if at all possible.

i had to get my screen replaced earlier this year under warranty and ever since then I have been receiving an error message on startup that pops up each time just within 5 minutes or so of logging in, and then lately my lappy has been randomly shutting down The error message states something about some extension vlabkernaladditions.kext not being found and needing to be re-installed or something. I will update this with the exact message on my next startup.Does anybody know anything about this??

Whenever I try to open iTunes I get this message saying that iTunes quit unexpectedly while using the libcrypto.0.9.8.dylib plug-in. It did this a few days ago so I tried re-installing iTunes and it worked after rebooting but it didn't work this time.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using Toast since it first came out and I have really enjoyed the latest version as well. However about a month ago Toast 8 just quit launching. It just bounces in the dock then disappears. I tried the one on my backup drive and it does the same thing. I have a Powerbook G4 17" 1.67ngz with 1 GB RAM. I installed Toast 8 on my girlfriends IMAc 24" Intel and it still works perfectly. I've looked on the Interweb and found some similar complaints but now solutions.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times with no luck. I even tried an older version I have and it didn't work either. All the bundled applications that come with Toast 8 with the except of CD Spin Doctor work fine. When I try to launch CD Spin Doctor I get this error message: This application requires Toast 8 Titanium or later to run on your system. The application will now quit. I have Toast 8 Titanium right freaking here" it just won't load... no error message for it however.
Have re-installed 10.6 and migrated stuff from a backup made on a external drive - any ideas what this messahe means? keep getting it pop up every hour!

I hit ignore, and the message just popped up again five seconds later. I did this multiple times, before just deciding to click relaunch. Well, all this does is immediately bring the message back up. So I hit report, in which it said that the report couldnt be sent. I have force quit, restarted and shut down already.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using the Mail (5.2) app in OS 10.7. I have my Inbox sorted by decending date, i.e. newest mail at the top. When I delete a message, Mail currently selects the message above, i.e. the one that had arrived after the deleted one chronologically. Since I work through my emails from newest to latest (usually), I will already have seen the newer mesage. What I want to see is the next message on the list, i.e. the next one, which arrive before the deleted one. My question there is: How can I advance to the previous message rather than the next one (chronologically) after deleting a message?

Noticed that my new MBP with 10.6.1 wasn't going to "sleep" after the time specified in System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Computer Sleep. Closing the lid or choosing 'sleep' from the apple menu worked fine. After playing with it a while, I _think_ I might have narrowed down the issue:
First, a couple of questions to see if the problem I'm seeing is only my own, or a common issue.
If you are having the problem, is your MBP unibody? with SD slot or expresscard slot?
Are you using the Apple factory HDD or an aftermarket one?
How I fixed the issue: I had the option selected on the same preference pane to "Put the hard disk to sleep when possible." If I unchecked this item, the machine would sleep after the specified time of inactivity (Actually, it would take about 30 seconds longer while the machine wrote the memory contents to the HDD.)
If you had the problem, does this fix it for you? If you did NOT have the problem, does checking this box create the problem for you?
I have a C2D iMac about 3 years old, with 10.6 and all the updates. I have it set to go to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity. Sometimes at night I will use it to listen to a podcast or watch a TV show. When I do this, it never goes to sleep. It's always still on when I wake up. The display will sleep, but not the computer. I can put the computer to sleep myself through the Apple menu, but it never sleeps due to inactivity.
I'm worried that having the computer on 8 hours a night due to this problem will shorten its lifespan. Does anyone have an idea of what may be causing it? Does it have something to do with webpages being open? I always have Safari open. It's easier to leave pages open than it is to go through dialog boxes and menus to create and delete bookmarks all the time.
I can get Mavericks 10.9.3 working again now after freezing constantly but now it seems to freeze after being inactive or when I stop to go do something. This MacBook Pro worked fine before upgrade.

I have thoroughly researched this issue. I attempted to delete all website data, deleted the cache, reset Safari. I have not had success with all of these attempted fix actions. I am NOT interested in reinstalling Lion--NOT happening. I am able to access from Firefox on my Mac, my work computer, my iPhone, my iPad, and my Windows PC with no problems. I tried on my wife's Mac with Safari 5.1.5 and I got the same error. So it is obviously an issue with the browser, not my machine.

Ever since installing Leopard, I've noticed it is having problems consistently mounting discs, specifically my external USB drive (for Time Machine). Sometimes I plug it in and it shows up as a disc on my desktop (and viewable within Finder and by Time Machine); other times I'll plug it in an it doesn't show up any where (even after restarting OSX).
Not sure this is related, but I also noticed that a .dmg file I downloaded failed to mount (just got an error message). This time, when I restarted OSX when I tried launching it again, it worked.
I have a Intel MacPro, sometimes when I restart I just get a grey screen, and If I try a few times it will boot up, but it takes a long time.
