OS X V10.7 Lion :: What Benefits Are There To Joining A Windows Domain

Mar 9, 2012

My company has one mac user with a Macbook Air, we have a Windows 2008 r2 domain.I'm wondering if it is worth joining him to the domain, what benefits are there for a mac user? We use Exchange 2007 and change our passwords every 90 days. One concern is when the user is out of the office the cached password can become out of sync with the domain password.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Computer Id In File Sharing Is The Old One Before Joined Windows Domain?

May 24, 2012

I just installed Lion 10.7.4 named my computer "fx6800". Then I joined my Windows 2003 Server domain with no problems. After that I could not log on to domain with one of my windows 7 machines because it had the same computer ID. Ok no problem I re joined the domain and re binded with the Win 7 machine and then un binded my Mac Lion machine then re-binded with a different computer ID. No problem both machines can log on to AD with separate computer accounts. Then I notice when I opened terminal it was showing the old computer ID. No problem I fixed it With sudo scutil --set HostName "new host name".

Then when I go to select file sharing in the description to the right under File Sharing On: it shows the path to tha machine is fx6800.domainname.local which is the original computer ID. Also when I select remote login and I believe it shows username@fx6800.domainname.local. I have searched for 2 days and have not come up with anything. I am sure if I reinstall everything it should fix it but I would like to save the time.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Slow After Joining Pdfs In Preview?

May 16, 2012

I regualrly have to join several PDF files into one document. They way I am doing this at the moment is through preview i.e. simply dragging and dopping the files over one another in the thumbnail side bar. However, at some point the computer invariably freezes showing me the spinning wheel of death for perhaps 15mins. Some times I cannot revover and have to force a hard reboot. Other times, I can get it to soft reboot after waiting for ages. The funny thing is the resulting file is fine since I can access after it after performing the reboot.

why this is and how I can avoid it since it wasts alot of time.

Specs of my MacBook are:Processor 2.8 Ghz Intel Core i7

Memory 4GB 1333 Mhz DDR3 I have 600 GB of hard disc space free

I am running OSX 10.7.3

The total size of the documents I want to join amounted to less than 4 Mb so I don't think I should be running out of memory.

IMac :: Connecting To A Windows Domain?

Nov 4, 2010

I have a new 27" i7 iMac with OSX 10.6.4 and need to connect it to our work place network that runs a Windows 2003 Domain Controller etc. I've never touch an Apple/iMac before and I don't know much of anything about them. I'll tell you this much, I LIKE THIS MACHINE! WOW! I really like it! So I'm pretty sure I have it on the network... maybe. But the biggest problem I have is when I log on as the user (and it indicates "Network" under the user name), I can see the network resources, the user folder is available down on the Dock but when I make changes to the Desktop, Dock etc. they don't save when I log out and log back in. So I hope someone here can help point me in the right direction. I have done a lot of Google and other forum search but I'm not really finding my answer.

Windows On Mac :: Domain Sharing To Workgroup

Dec 30, 2010

i have a machine in a workgroup called 21. the machine name is icey.i have a domain called avery. i am able to access files on the domain from icey but when i try to connect to a printer it says i dont have sufficient access. the printer in question is a resource on a machine called marble. and the printer itself is called new_printer and yes its being shared. actually i cannot connect to any printers on the domain from icey.

everyone on the domain can access the all printers however no one from 21 can connect to it. it was necessary for me to build 21 but it is still important for 21 to be able to use avery resources. is there any way i can get this to connect?

OS X Mavericks :: Connecting Mac (10.9.4) To Windows Domain Printers

Aug 26, 2014

i have been given the task of trying to get mac machines printing on Ricoh printers on a windows network in a small private school. I have gone through the appropriate steps of installing the drivers for the printers through using PxlMono, Foot, Ghost, etc... to make it so I can work without the cards in the printers.

However, adding the printers to the mac is a whole new problem. The machines are added appropriately to the domain. The necessary printers are now showing up in the open directory portion of the adding printers window. However, upon trying to add them, it states the following: An error occurred while trying to add the selected device.

Bad device-uri "smb://****-DC1.****.loc/High School Workroom RICOH".

Are the spaces in the name creating issues? There is another printer on the network that worked with a different mac that appears to have spaces in the name as well. Adding with IPP doesn't, saying that there was an error with it and asks if i want to install it anyway. If I do install it anyway, it becomes unresponsive regardless. I've even gone through the CUPS menu in port 631 and tried adding with IPP that way, and it still doesn't work. I'm about to go insane trying to get these dang things to print. I have 5 different macs trying to connect for 4-5 printers each for this craziness.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Join MS Windows Server 2008 Domain

Mar 17, 2012

I recently purchased a new MacBook pro with Mac OS X, I updated the OS to the latest release which is 10.7.3. I need to join (bind) a MS Windows server 2008 Domain, but when I try to bind I get below error:

Unable to add server.

The daemon encountered an error processing request (10002)

I searched the internet for a solution; most suggestions refer to sync the clock with the domain clock as Kerberos protocol is unable to authenticate. I cannot find a option to sync the clock with the domain clock, how I do that?

IMac :: Snow Leopard 10.6.4 Connecting To Windows SBS Server Domain

Aug 19, 2010

I looked for a introduction forum but couldn't see one so hello guys and gals. Great forum you've got here..Right my issue is as follows.I have a new iMac Pro on snow leopard 10.6.4 and it is linked to a Windows SBS server 2007 but i don't think i've done it properly. When i switch the machine on all i get on boot up is 1 local user Sometimes i can leave it and it will offer me the 'Other' option which i can then login to the server But most times it doesn't to that... I have to logon as that local user and then unbind the windows domain and rebind it then when i logoff it shows me the 'Other' user Also another thing thats annoying is it doesn't map anything automatically i have had to create a alias icon on my desktop to go to my server space and it can take up to a minute to connect to the server..

I've just set up DNS on Lion Server and whereas previously I could connect to a system on my network by the hostname (e.g. via ssh), using the Lion Server DNS requires the fully-qualified name. Is this by design? I've checked all my settings and it all seems to be correct.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Cannot Login To Domain After 10.7.4 Update

May 16, 2012

Here again dealing with how OS X deals with .local domains I think. Was previously bound and all was working fine.Have just updated to 10.7.4 When trying to login using the "Other User" the button stays red and says Network accounts unavailable.I can ping domain server by name and IP.Permissions have been rebuilt.

Have rebound. Had a problem at first unbinding inside the Open Directory Utility as it said it could not connect with the domain and an unused account would be left if a forced unbind was done. Tried again by using the minus button instead of the Unbind button and it worked without any message.

So then binded to the domain and all looked good. Green button next to Network Account Server in the Users and Groups.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Create A DNS Record For A Domain Itself (without A Hostname)

Mar 10, 2012

Normally, you can create a DNS record that points to the zone itself, e.g.:

@   10800 IN A    196.197.200.201

How do you accomplish that on a Mac OSX Lion Server? The DNS requires you to enter a hostname and it does not accept "@" as the hostname as it normally appears in the zone file. (manually modifying the host file does not work - I tried that ;-) )

OS X V10.7 Lion :: DNS Is Incredibly Slow On 10.7.4 When Connected To A .local Domain

May 21, 2012

Im running Lion 10.7.4 and am connected to a .local domain.

I am also running VMWare Fusion on the same machine with Windows 7.  neither Lion or Windows 7 are joined to the domain. The windows 7 VM browses the internet perfectly but lion is painfully slow. My IP's are DHCP assigned and the search domain is xxxx.local

The VM is using bridged not NAT which is why the VM is perfming perfectly. I know its something to do with the .local but cant change the TLD here so need a fix.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Finding The Scripting References For Web Domain Creation?

Feb 14, 2012

I have been unable to find any references on how to best automate certain "tasks" in Lion so that I can do the following:

create predefined DNS names based upon the clients domain name
create predefnined web address based upon the just created DNS

For example.... We have the customer "Sammy's Flower Garden" and his domain is "sammysflowergarden.com". At the command line, I would type:

$ clientsetup sammysflowergarden.com This would then create a base folder structure (this part has already been written)ClientDomains     -     S          -     sammysflowergarden.com               -     production               -     staging               -     archive               -     design                    -     template

[code]....

From what I have read, alot of modifications outside of the Lion serveradmin tooling can result in some rather unusual if not nasty behaviour. If this is true, then I would assume that I could not just write out to a file in /var/named/ and have it automaticly picked up by the server? The same for the apache instance? I still want to be able to use the GUI interface when needed.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Cannot Edit Website Details - Domain Name Field Blank

Mar 23, 2012

I'm trying to setup a Lion Server as an internet server - not as a web server - I need access to a different port. When I use the Server UI to go to Web, I can select to edit my domain name but then in the edit window, the Domain Name field is blank, and I can't change anything such as the port, SSL Cert, etc.As best I can tell, I have the DNS setup but I'm not sure I've done it correctly. I can add a second domain name and can edit the details for that. I'd hoped I could delete the first one or swap them but no luck.I can't access the domain name from outside the LAN but it may have just not propagated yet. I can access the IP address and do see the default home page.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Routing  Profile Manager/iCal  Published Into .private Domain?

Mar 15, 2012

i've setted up my mini server as "server.domain.private"because i don't want it to be published on the internet by default, i want to have control on wich webapp is published.my main goal is to have a new Vhosts wich is serving only the webapps i need to be running and ,why not, hosting multiple VhostS enabling just some (or one) webapps each [url]). in other words: i want control on what is published where and how in order to publish Profile Manager i did: - created a new virtual host on the web service called "server.public-domain.com"- enabled the webapp on that Vhost from terminal as found in: [url]  using this command "webappctl start [url]"- restarted the whole server but this seems not to work as expected.. should it ??? after some dirty work on the apache config (copy/paste from the original vHost of some "proxypass" and "balancemembers" and "include" regarding devicemngmt) i got it to ask me for password when browsed from the outside world, BUT after login it will redirect my browser to "server.domain.private" wich is obviously not working from outside.

My boot drive in Bay 1 is a 1TB, it stores everything except my iTunes library, then in Bay 2 I have another 1TB drive that I use CCC weekly to mirror the data from drive 1. If I was to partition the boot drive to use store my applications, and system software and moved all my data (documents, pictures, videos) to the partitioned part of the drive would there be any benefit?

OS X :: Joining WPA2 Networks Automatically

Recently my Macbook Pro has seemed to develop a problem joining WPA2 networks that I have credentials saved for automatically, both at home and at school. At school it selects the network, but doesn't automatically authenticate, I need to go into the wireless settings and set it to 'connect' with the proper credentials selected in the 802.1x box. At home, it doesn't even select my home network automatically, I need to go and select it myself, but then it authenticates properly. Is there something I can do that will just delete All of my wireless configurations and associated content? I'm tempted to just wipe it and format if nothing else.
