I updated my iMac with 10.7.4 and now when I have been working on it it won't shut down. I thought it was only when I was using Photoshop and contacted Apple who told me to reinstall Photoshop but it made no difference but now it happens with all programs I am using.

I've made the update to 10.7.4 last week and since then my MBP doesn't want to shutdown. I tried a few times, waiting for half an hour, but the result was the same. Also, the startup is slower than usual.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac 1st Gen i5 Quad-Core with two user accounts and since the 10.7.3 update I cannot get the computer to restart or shutdown properly. It seems to happen when both users have been signed on. I log out on both accounts, shutdown (or restart) and it still hangs up. If I use just one account, it's hit and miss. No applications are hanging in the force quit menu.

I can't restart or shut down the mini, due to "operations still in progress." How do I workaround this problem? It seems to occur after I've done a Software Update. The only way I can shut down is with the power switch.

Think this recent update to the white macbook is a good sign that the mini will be updated soon? Or holds no significance?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought a 2011 mac mini second hand and would like to update product registration and link lion to my apple id - is this possible? When I first switched on the mac mini I was presented with standard setup screen to choose language, then progressed through setup, including entering my apple id. I thought this would have linked my apple id to lion which is pre-installed, but when I signed into mac app store neither lion or iLife suite show up under purchases. My main concern is that I was planning to upgrade hard drive and I won't be able to install lion to it.

I just downloaded the latest update to Parallels. I shut down Parallels before running the update, and I even did a reboot of the computer. And yet every time I run the update program it keeps telling me to "shut down these running and suspended virtual machines" and refers to "My Boot Camp"Like I said, I rebooted the computer first. There are no virtual machines running. Zero, zilch, nada. So why in the ******* is Parallels telling me that there is? "My Boot Camp" isn't even a VM that I use
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever - or at least 90% of the time - I try to shutdown my MacBook Pro, I get the message "Application Mail canceled shutdown" and so it is, my Laptop won't shut down. Whats wrong with that? (I searched the forum and found this thread http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/swi...down-imac.html , but it actually only explains how to shut OSX down but not how to avoid the problem) I read on the net that several people had this problem with a prog called "uTorrent", and the solution found on the net was to update your OSX to 10.5.x or later. I'm on 10.0.3 so?
View 8 Replies View RelatedGetting a very nasty message when trying to reinstall OS on my Mac mini. During disc two it comes up with the message to turn it off by holding down the power. I have also tried to disconnect the power hold it for 5 seconds and reset the SMC. Where do I go from here. Do I need to by a new one?Thought initially it was my hard drive but I changed it and still the same message comes. Is it a kernel problem. A little hard to any "reset" or anything as I don't have any system running on it, or is it?

After installing the combo update on my 5,1 MacBook, my machine upon restart or shutdown, will merely close the menu bar and remove the desktop icons but the dock remains open. After a couple minutes, a message will pop up stating that which ever program was shut down last will not allow the restart or shutdown. Top however doesn't report the program as running. I repaired disk permissions.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new Mac mini and Seagate goflex 3TB external hard drive. The computer is awesome but if I have the external hard drive plugged in, it messes with the restart/shutdown. The mac will act like it's powering down and go to the blank white screen but will never turn off and shows the little gray lines that go in that circular motion at the bottom of the screen. If I disconnect the USB from the Mac then it completes its power down. I've tried the suggestions of repairing disks or disk permissions, as well as resetting the PRAM, which have worked sometimes but the the problem reoccurs. I've also tried ejecting the external hard drive before shutting down on the Mac but I'll either get an error message or nothing happens and then the above shutdown issue occurs.
Why does this happen and what can I do so that I can always have the external plugged in and not have to manually unplug it so the Mac can shutdown?

Does anyone have any ideas on why this might be occurring? I've only installed a few applications on the Mini and no hacks.
The monitor will shut off but the Mini won't go to sleep on its own.
Im running a Mac Mini 2.1 on OSX. Using SMFanControl its showing me 1600-1700 rpm and a temp of 151F as i type this but spikes between 140-170F is this normal? I have to run a fan behind the computer for any kind of gaming or else it shuts down ( due to heat im sure )

Ever since, when I try to reboot independently of the update, or even shut down, it does the same, and I can only force shut down holding the power button.
I tried the shift+ctrl+opt+p+r command, but I guess it didn't worked.

I have the 2.53ghz with 4gigz of Ram MacMini from Xmas 2009.A few of you know that I had been trying out different SSD's before finally jumping on with OWC 60gig SSD. I've had it for about 2 months now and it works great except I've recently been having my computer freeze and the beach ball of death appears constantly when on Safari and sometimes iMovie. After shutting down the computer manually, sometimes booting up will leave me at the grey screen for minutes before i shut it down and wait maybe 30 mins before i fire it up again, which usually works 9/10 times.
I also noticed the beach ball delaying certain processes like loading Safari or a webpage. For example, I have my OWC External hooked up via FireWire800 with just my music and videos, however occasionally if im browsing thru websites or loading a program it'll cycle the external and have the beachball as if trying to load something before proceeding. It is more an annoyance than a problem.
I ran disk utility on all my drives as well as the Apple Hardware Test CD to see if maybe my Logic Board was the problem. I did the general test as well as the indepth test, both show negative signs of a problem. Can anyone shed some light on what could be the problem?Should I put the factory drive back in and take it to Apple to run their diagnostic test?Could the SSD be failing? (I could RMA it, but didn't know if its an Apple issue vs OWC)
My system has randomly shut down twice now in the last two days. Dual G5 2.3. I checked the console log, which I know very little about, and it said this:
localhost kernel[0]: ApplePMU::PMU forced shutdown, cause = -122
Two questions-
what's the -122 code mean?
Do you think resetting the PMU would be the solution to this?
I have a (big?) Problem with my Mac Mini Server (Mid 2011, Lion with all updates): It works all perfectly fine but in 10 til 50% of the shutdowns (depends on the weather i fear ) it will freeze at the gray screen with the spinning wheel for hours and longer. I have to use the power button to shut it down.
I had a look at the terminal serveral times and besides the last "shutdown: halt by...." there are always different entrys.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my wife's Late-2007 MacBook White to Lion and now sleeping and shutdown take a very long time. On Snow Leopard, sleep and shutdown was instantaneous! Close the lid and BAM! done. Selecting shutdown on the menu and BAM! turned off.
Now, after upgrading to Lion, they take a really long time. I deleted the shutdown log, turned off the computer and then turned it back on and checked on it. All processes go in less than a second, but com.apple.securityd doesn't exit at all and has to be killed as I see this message on the log:
19988665 1 com.apple.launchd 28 com.apple.securityd Exit timeout elapsed (20 seconds). Killing
One of the last messages on the log is this one:
19992024 1 com.apple.launchd 1 com.apple.launchd System: Userspace shutdown took approximately 20 seconds.
So I figure if it were not for com.apple.securityd, shutdown would be instantaneous, just as Snow Leopard was.
