Applications :: Mail Canceled Shutdown - Need OS X Update?
Jun 6, 2010
Whenever - or at least 90% of the time - I try to shutdown my MacBook Pro, I get the message "Application Mail canceled shutdown" and so it is, my Laptop won't shut down. Whats wrong with that? (I searched the forum and found this thread http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/swi...down-imac.html , but it actually only explains how to shut OSX down but not how to avoid the problem) I read on the net that several people had this problem with a prog called "uTorrent", and the solution found on the net was to update your OSX to 10.5.x or later. I'm on 10.0.3 so?
I updated my iMac with 10.7.4 and now when I have been working on it it won't shut down. I thought it was only when I was using Photoshop and contacted Apple who told me to reinstall Photoshop but it made no difference but now it happens with all programs I am using.

After installing the combo update on my 5,1 MacBook, my machine upon restart or shutdown, will merely close the menu bar and remove the desktop icons but the dock remains open. After a couple minutes, a message will pop up stating that which ever program was shut down last will not allow the restart or shutdown. Top however doesn't report the program as running. I repaired disk permissions.
I've made the update to 10.7.4 last week and since then my MBP doesn't want to shutdown. I tried a few times, waiting for half an hour, but the result was the same. Also, the startup is slower than usual.
I installed the 10.6.2 2 days ago, shut down the computer, and let it rest overnight. When I booted, I had no immediate problems. Then that whole mobileme outage thing occured. No biggie, everything functioned fine. After the outage, I had booted Mail to find that only my mobileme account was added. I tried a mail/accounts sync, but nothing happened. I re-added each other account (gmail and college) with no problems, even all the mail was still stored that had been downloaded.
Now I'm finding some little tweaks are off. My "unread messages are bold" was unticked, despite never having altered these settings. Signatures for the accounts were 50/50, with some being removed and some remaining. Anyone else experiencing weird things like this since the combo of the 10.6.2 update and mobileme? The only additional change that happened on my computer was installing Parallels 5 upgrade.
Every time I want to shut down my late 2011 MacBook Pro, Mac Mail cancels the shut down & I have to force quit mail. I was having this problem on my old 2008 MacBook before I upgraded to the Pro (but it only started after I upgraded to Lion OSX). So what's wrong w/ Mac Mail? And is there some setting I can change? This is an annoying time suck.
i was clearing my Bulk E-Mail. marked one as JUNK and then deleted it. Now I cannot close or open the Mail Box. Also, I cannot shut down the computer as there is a warning that the Mail Will Not Allow Shut Down.
I was using Boot Camp Assistant to partition my MacBook to install XP. While partitioning my MacBook completely froze and wouldn't unfreeze, I waited about 30 minutes to see if it fix itself, so I held down the power to force a restart, upon rebooting I opened Boot Camp Assistant to try again and I noticed I lost 50 gigabytes of space. Is there a way to fix this and regain my lost hard drive space?
i had just made settings for my gmail in the mail app, it crashed. then i deleted the gmail account as not to use it. now it sops me from shuttingdown the system. saying first close your mail app then shutdown.
Started the 10.7.4 install, and it halted. Turned my Mac off, started it back up, and apparently the 10.7.4 update didn't install, but it has caused the Mail function to not work AT ALL - I get a long error report that is auto sent to Apple.
I downloaded Lion from the Apple store, but have my Snow Leopard disk. How do I go about re-installing Mail?

My iMac 27 late 2010 does not shut down when shut down in the normal way. I have to shut down with the push button. I have tried disconnecting all the usb connected hardware still no use. Can any body help.I have OS Lion 10.7.3?
My system has randomly shut down twice now in the last two days. Dual G5 2.3. I checked the console log, which I know very little about, and it said this:
localhost kernel[0]: ApplePMU::PMU forced shutdown, cause = -122
Two questions-
what's the -122 code mean?
Do you think resetting the PMU would be the solution to this?
On my iPhone and iPad mail app, which is sourcing from my Gmail, 'read' mail is changed to read mail (from unread) status on across iPad and iPhone mail application platforms. But not for IMac using Lion.
Since I update to yosemitee on 11/30 MAC mail will not connect to my mail server. I have deleted and re added the account, tried every setting that my provider has for incoming and outgoing but the problem seems to be with the apple update.
...home directory is full. You must free up space in your home folder before using Mail. Delete unneeded documents or move documents to another volume." And the only button on the error window is...quit. I get this when starting my Apple Mail application. Can't load Mail. I run an older OS, Tiger 10.4.11 on this power-PC. I have 37 GB available on a 152 GB hard drive ( only had 20 available when I first got the message, then cleared 17 GB off...but still get the error message).

Not using a TV I often fall asleep with my Mac still running. Do you know a good app/dashboard widget that I can use to set a time for it to shutdown automatically?
Anyone know of an app to auto shut down your mac after it's done running a an iTunes playlist or letting another app run it's course? The Energy saver shut down schedule option is too rigid for me. Basically, I like to listen to a some music as I go to sleep and would love for my mac to shut itself down after it's finished with the playlist. If there isn't a program would anyone know of an applescript that would do that?
I cant seem to figure out how to get Quicksilver to Restart, Shutdown, and sleep computers. It is enabled on one computer, but not the other. Is it a plugin? or a radio button I have to check off?
I have an Airport Express 802.11N with latest software (7.4.1). It has stopped connecting for AirTunes. In the Airport Utility (from a PowerBook G4) the music icon has a cancel ("O" with "") superimposed. The Airport Utility from an Intel-based MacPro or MacBook Pro shows the icon properly. In all cases the Enable AirTunes block is checked. iTunes shows the Airport Express in the list but will not play through it. It has worked before.
After installing the recent OSX 10.7.4 update I can't receive email. I get a message saying; "The iCloud IMAP server “p02-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “jjmorana” I tried going back in Time Machine to uninstall the update and got a error code 803 ??? My mac is starting to feel like a PC?
My icloud 'sent' mail box has no recent sent messages in it. All this email i receive & review on my MAC are visible but all the emails I send from my MAC never appear on line (icloud).
