I updated my iMac with 10.7.4 and now when I have been working on it it won't shut down. I thought it was only when I was using Photoshop and contacted Apple who told me to reinstall Photoshop but it made no difference but now it happens with all programs I am using.

I've made the update to 10.7.4 last week and since then my MBP doesn't want to shutdown. I tried a few times, waiting for half an hour, but the result was the same. Also, the startup is slower than usual.

Whenever - or at least 90% of the time - I try to shutdown my MacBook Pro, I get the message "Application Mail canceled shutdown" and so it is, my Laptop won't shut down. Whats wrong with that? (I searched the forum and found this thread http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/swi...down-imac.html , but it actually only explains how to shut OSX down but not how to avoid the problem) I read on the net that several people had this problem with a prog called "uTorrent", and the solution found on the net was to update your OSX to 10.5.x or later. I'm on 10.0.3 so?
View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter installing the combo update on my 5,1 MacBook, my machine upon restart or shutdown, will merely close the menu bar and remove the desktop icons but the dock remains open. After a couple minutes, a message will pop up stating that which ever program was shut down last will not allow the restart or shutdown. Top however doesn't report the program as running. I repaired disk permissions.

I just keep shutting it down ( push off button on the back until it shuts off) and trying to start it again. Some times it will let you get a little farther, but always after 2-3 minutes it goes to SBBOD.
Lates thing I did was push option+command+S when I turned it back on and now screen is black and has a bunch of code. Been at this stage for 30 minutes now. It is not pluged into the internet at the moment.

I have an iMac 1st Gen i5 Quad-Core with two user accounts and since the 10.7.3 update I cannot get the computer to restart or shutdown properly. It seems to happen when both users have been signed on. I log out on both accounts, shutdown (or restart) and it still hangs up. If I use just one account, it's hit and miss. No applications are hanging in the force quit menu.

I installed Lion OS X on my iMac and was happily working on this morning within Safari for email. Tried to open iTunes and it wouldn't and was then notified that there were 5 system updates which I installed. After that I can no longer get Safari to open - notification says "Safari quit unexpectedly."

Before the 10.7.4 update the WIFI connection from the iMac 21.5" to the airport extreme router works fine!
Now it's failing several times a day! it looses the wifi connection and you are unable to see any wireless accesspoints or SSID's
Macbook pro, iphone & ipad + PC's still works fine!
The only way to get the wireless up and working again is to shutdown and restart the iMac.
In the log i can see alot, don't know if this is some clue or error occuring just after the wireless connection is dropped for unknown reasons.

I currently have Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I got my imac in December 2007 from an Apple Store, but I can't seem to find anything that specifically says it is 'an early 2007' or 'late 2007' model. How do I know this? I have read that the 2007 model must be a late model. I also have 4 GB of memory, and it is an Intel core 2 duo. What I fit other qualifications after the answer to the 2007 model question is answered? Also, can I go straight from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion?

Installed the update and what wasn't a problem is now a problem. The computer will not connect to wifi without me telling it to after coming out of sleep. Was not an issue with 10.7.2.
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy Mid 2011 iMac 27" i7 will no longer start after the latest EFI update. I decided to perform some system updated on my iMac and after installing 10.7.3, I rechecked and it found the EFI update and one other update. They were both pretty small (the largest was 3.6MB), so I decided to proceed prior to getting back to business with my system. After downloading the updates (took about 5 seconds), the machine proceeded to restart. There was a loud beep prior to the system restart chime after which it went to the grey-white apple startup screen with the spinning wheel. And it stayed there. After 35 minutes with no discernable progress, I decided something must be wrong. This system normally takes about 30 seconds to boot from a cold state (it's running on an OWC SSD) or maybe a minute after updates. So I held the power button to reboot. But it keeps going to the same state. I tried to reboot to a different internal drive holding the option key, but the same thing happens.

Internal 1TB Apple HD
Internal OWC SSD 240G (main startup drive)
1. How do I recover from this?
2. Is anyone else running into this problem?
3. How long do the EFI updates normally take?
4. Shouldn't there be some sort of "progress bar" to indicate something is going on during this process? Or, if not, then perhaps a "WARNING!! This process will take up to two hours, during which you will receive no discernable feedback. Do not interrupt the process until more than 24 hours have passed with the spinning ball."
P.S. I think this is my last iMac EFI update. After my last iMac received an EFI update (2009 model 24" iMac), it became ultra-flakey and started corrupting HD's. It never worked the same after that. This machine was working PERFECTLY before the update.

It's been having trouble shutting down when it's gone unused. Then it won't turn on unless I turn the surge protector off and back on. (I thought it was tied to my backup drive being on, but now I just turn it on when I need it) Even then it doesn't start up automatically, I have to push it a few times. Just now when I held down the start up button it made a loud whooshing sound, started up, maintained the sound for awhile and then normal but I still hear it running louder than usual. I dread it may not start up again one of these times. Side issue, maybe unrelated but firefox is driving me crazy with proxy issues, aol mail issues, and just now I couldn't post in this forum it was "forbidden" when I hit submit. so I used Safari instead and found my post was actually posted.

Just recently I have noticed that when I take off for a few days, I shutdown the iMac and when I return home a few days later and hit the power button the iMac is already on in sleep mode. The only change I have made recently was to add Time Machine on a Guardian Maximus 1TB raid drive, but I usually power off that drive when I leave. I've checked and searched here and in the Apple discussions with no luck. Does anyone have any idea what might be happening?

After a full shutting down the computer we needed to get back on, so on restart it came up to the usual 2 user options, mine and guest.
After selecting mine and entering my password the little Ferris wheel spins as usual but then the coloured pin wheel come up and spins for about 2seconds. The screen then flashes white and it goes back to selecting between the 2 users.
I did a Command R restart and went in to Utilities and changed my password (although I was entering it in correctly before) and no change.
I am running the latest updated version of Mavericks and have unplugged all peripheral hardware from the computer, followed by a restart and no change.
I've even left the computer shut down for 2 days and on our return still the same.

I am having some problems with this computer. Suddenly shuts itself off I have had trouble turning it back on. At times I try unplugging the power cord (both ways), and any peripherals (USB, Firewire). Sometimes it works and other times no. I pretty much have to play around with it - but right now I can't turn it back on! In case some are wondering, it is running Tiger, 1 GB of RAM, and I keep it running pretty much around the clock.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt's a G5 20" 2.0ghz machine and is 15 months old approx. He was running something or other, nothing very taxing, when the computer unexpectedly shut down. He restarted it and within a few mins it shutdown again. He restarted it again and used it fine for a couple of hours, shut it down and went to bed. Came to it the next day and nothing. No noise, no lights, nothing. He dropped it off at a local authorised dealer and they thought it was either going to be the power supply (�100 to fix) or the main board (�600 to fix). Sure enough he got the call and it's the logic board thats gone. He doesnt have applecare unfortunately but decided to try his luck and contact apple anyway. Needless to say, they weren't in the least interested and told him he'd either have to foot the bill or toss the machine in the bin. �600 to fix one of these is appauling and more than the machine itself is worth but the options are limited. Has anyone else experienced anything like this and if so are there places to get the machines fixed cheaper? I know this goes to show that it's a good idea to stump up the extra cash initially for applecare but �1200 (the price when new) seems pretty bad for 15 months computing and has really put me off recommending iMacs to anyone else. The days when I can construct my own computer with my own components and run OS X on it, and repair it myself cant come soon enough if this is how it's going.

latest apps that i have, but not running, is parallels. I also used Boot camp to partion my hard disk but did not install the os. so have a partion with nothing on it.
So...basically what is going on is that after a while, depends on how hard my computer wants to run and make itself hot, it will completely shut down. . .not sleep, power off.

When I press power it makes the start noise but the screen stays white. The apple doesn't pop up and it won't load. Trying to put in disks that came with my computer don't seem to work either.

I have tried to install Os X Jaguar without upgrading firmware, so it told me that it needed to upgrade. But I can't do that since it doesn't boot anymore. I tried disconnecting the harddrive and boot it without it, it still turns off. [URl]

When I go to ctreate again all the info is there for the network I created, but the network does not appear. If I name it again I can use it but then again it disappears when IMAC is shutdown. Is there anyway to save it? I have ude the apply button and reclosed the lock, but same results.
