OS X V10.7 Lion :: Macbook Pro Screen Remains Black After Opening Computer
Apr 29, 2012When I open my macbook, the screen remains black (as though it's in sleep mode). Adjusting the brightness always fixes this problem, but this is a temporary fix. The brightness is not at zero when I adjust it after opening, often I need to dim the screen to reactivate it.
This problem is not: related to *clamshell mode*related to unintentionally dimming the screen. related to any of the settings in the Energy Saving panel in system preferences
Extra info: The computer seems as though it doesn't actually enter sleep mode when I close the computer.I don't think there are any processes running that would prevent sleep mode. I really just want the computer to go to sleep properly when I close the screen and more importantly, that it wake-up when opened, or at least when a button is pushed aside from the brightness buttons.

May 13, 2012I hear the computer physically turn on, but a blank screen remains. I recently purchased a new battery for the computer for the battery status read replace soon about a week ago. I sense that maybe there is a shortage in the wiring that connects what shows on the screen to the computer, but I'm not completely sure.

Jul 5, 2012I tried uploading pictures with my s.card and then I plugged in my back up storage disk to transfer pictures and then my computer stopped working as if it was overloaded or something.... I tried forcing quit but that didn't help any. So I just shut it down in hopes that when it restarted it would work but now when it restarts the login screen comes up and after I type my password it just stays on snow leopard default screen(purple sky) and stays there.

OS X :: Computer Screen Is Too Big For The Monitor - How To Set It Up
Aug 13, 2009I am currently using a Mac OS X 10.5.7 at my job. For some odd reason the entire screen resolution has increased and is now too big for the actual moniter. So now every time I move my mouse the ENTIRE screen inside my moniter moves around with it. Picture a 21" screen inside a 17" moniter, so everytime you move your mouse the entire screen inside the moniter moves around with it. I have tried adjusting the display size thinking that may have been the problem, but it is at 1680 x 1050 which is the largest it can get on this computer.

May 16, 2010I have a 2008 macbook pro with snow leopard installed. When i turned the computer on the computer boots up but my screen stays black. Sometimes when i try to restart the computer i don't even get a chime. When i do get a chime, i can share the screen and run the macbook from my imac. Is there a way to get my screen to turn on remotely from my imac?

Dec 1, 2010I recently spilled a small amount of water on my macbook pro and now the screen doesnt work. The computer starts up and makes sound so I took it into an apple store. They told me there was water damage and the logic board was broke so it would be 600 to fix it. I couldnt believe it. I plugged my computer into a tv threw the mini display port and everything works fine. My question is does the logic board really need replaced? Where can I get this fixed the cheapest or should I just sell it for parts? If so where and how much should I look to get?

OS X :: Computer Screen Locking Since 10.6.3 Update
May 14, 2010I have been experiencing an issue with locking my computer screen ever since updating to 10.6.3. Normally, when I choose to lock my screen through the Keychain Access menu bar item, the password prompt will be displayed over a black background. However, since the 10.6.3 update, sometimes when I choose to lock the screen, the password prompt will simply be displayed over my actual desktop, and the open windows, menu bar, and the dock all remain visible. I updated to 10.6.3 using the combo update package, and I have tried repairing permissions and resetting the PRAM and SMC to no avail.

It is running on a wireless connection, connected to a Linksys router.How would I go on about doing that? The router also has 3 other computers connected to it, so technically I can't login with just the IP.
MacBook Pro :: Nothing On Screen But Computer Still Turning On?
Jul 1, 2010I have an older generation Macbook Pro (the all-silver two-part body style that came out before the current Macbook Pro) that I got approximately two years ago. I do use it quite heavily but have always taken good care of it.
About a week ago, I was using it as normal, then put it into sleep mode and went away from it for an hour. When I came back to it and opened it back up, there was nothing. I tried closing it and re-opening it, still nothing. I did a hard shut-down by pressing the power button until the power light went off, and then restarted it. Even though the computer turned on and the power light lit up, the screen remained black, and the Apple symbol on the lid remained unlit.
I called technical support and they ran me through a list of fixes including holding several keys down and turning on the computer, etc. None of them did anything to the computer as far as I was able to tell. I was not getting any sound, either--whether from having my computer muted or from the computer not working, I'm not sure.
I then tried putting the MBP into Target Disk Mode by connecting it to my sister's MB--no response. Still, the screen remained black on the MBP and no icon for the MBP Disk appeared on the MB. Even though the computer powers up, runs the fan and everything, it appears to be dead for all intents and purposes.
I have two main questions here:
1) What is going on here? Is it as simple as a screen problem, or has my motherboard gone? This is the very first problem I've ever had with my MBP; nothing has led up to this.
2) Is there any chance that my files are safe? I'm currently on vacation and backed up my files prior to leaving, but have done a lot of work since being on the trip and am not too keen to lose what I've done.

Dec 3, 2014My laptop was dead then I restarted it. I hear the fan going and the the CAPS LOCK light comes on. But the screen is black. About a minute later the screen turns on and has a message that asks me to pick a language. then asks me what type of problem I am having with using my password. (Which I am not having). So I reset my password then it says itll restart. Only to do it again. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro 15inch.

Dec 2, 2010I have 2 new macs, (24 and 27), only 1 of which I use at a time. It is sinking into my consciousness that ScreenRecycler is the best way to utilize both computers, and to use the 24 as the second monitor, via ScreenRecycler. This is more apt, I think, than TelePort, which works dandy. I make books and I have InDesign on the main computer; and the toolbars, Photoshop, Excel, at al, on the second monitor. I copy and paste a whole lot, and Teleport is not appropriate for that.

May 10, 2008So i updated to 10.5.7 the other day and it took a few restarts to get it going, but all is well now.
i was just tooling around on my computer with several programs open as i usually do (safari looking at gmail, ical, mail, itunes, ichat, weatherdock, TM error logger), then all of a sudden a grey dim starts at the top of the screen and swipes all the way to the bottom then the following message appears: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the Restart button."
Anyone else have this issue with 10.5.7? what did it mean if you had it in the past?
I'm running a mid 2007 MBP 2.4 SR, with stock 2GB RAM, stock 160GB hard drive, 2 Western Digital external hard drives, one USB for Times Machine and a FW800 for iTunes media.
OS X :: Computer Hangs On Blue Screen / Updated G5 To 10.5.6
Dec 31, 2008I have just updated my iMac G5 to 10.5.6. When I restart, it hangs on the blue screen before log in. I have restarted in Safe Mode (no problem there) and removed the APE files in the library folder, as suggested on support.apple.com. I have also repaired permissions and verified the drive. Still no luck.
Is it really possible that the computer needs hours to restart after the update? And would it be better for me to restore using Time Machine or do an Archive & Install with the Leopard discs? The computer was acting a little funky before I updated to 10.5.6 (iTunes was sluggish), but I never had a problem rebooting.
OS X :: Computer Stuck At Blue Screen After Updates
Mar 31, 2009I have had problems with 2 different Macbooks this last 2 weeks. 1 Macbook 2,4Ghz latest release and 1 Macbook pro that I cant remember specs on (the aluminum one without any black around display) etc. They say that they did some updates and restarted computer. When the mac starts up it comes all the way to login screen but when I click the user to login with there is only a blue screen with mouse arrow displayed.
I have tried a couple of things:
Hold shift on boot
Hold apple+p+r on boot
Boot on install disk and repaired diskpermissions
Other (brand new) RAM in both slots
Diskwarrior
Put disk in another macbook (exact same version)
Nothing of the above helped so I installed a new disk in the macbook install fresh OS and used the guide to clone everything from the original disk in a firewire case. When I did this it worked for a while but after a couple of restarts it was back at the bluescreen again. So to fix this I finally did a new OS install and copied files by hand. desktop, documents, movies and that kind of stuff. Not any library files, preferences and stuff. So now it works but since I got another with the same problem today. Anyone heard of bad firmware or updates released last couple of weeks or have any other ideas? No external devices attached.

May 2, 2009My wife is having an issue with her Macbook. The screen works great, when it comes on. However, 80% of the time, when she opens the laptop, she has to jiggle the screen back and forth to get it to come on. Sometimes it takes several minutes.
Any idea what that could be and what the solution would be? Could it just be a loose connection somewhere?
OS X :: Screen Looses Brightness On Desktop Computer
Jun 20, 2009I have a Mac OS X, Version 10.5.7, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, iMac desktop computer. I have looked high and low for a way to prevent my screen from dimming after about 2 minutes and have found nothing to help. The screen doesn't go completely dark, it just loses brightness. Here's what happens: I load a guitar chords page and begin to practice the song on the computer screen. After about two minutes the screen goes dim, which is very annoying and is difficult for me to see.
Every proposed solution I've come across refers me to the Energy Saver in the System Preferences. The problem is that the Energy Saver in the System Preferences for my desktop computer does not have the same selections as an Energy Saver in the System Preferences for a laptop. As is seen in the picture below, I don't have selections for dimming preferences that a laptop has. I don't want to install some third party program (like Caffeine) if I can avoid it. How I can disable this dimming feature on my computer?

Feb 1, 2010I have a 2.2 GHz MacBook Pro, one of the Santa Rosa models with the 8600M GT. It's run perfectly for nearly two years - up until about two weeks ago. Since then, it's experienced three pretty drastic system-wide crashes. Each time, the screen flashes white three times and freezes, requiring a hard reset - the mouse still moves, but the computer doesn't recognize any input. Curiously, each time I've reset, the computer has had an instant kernel panic at the white boot screen with the Apple logo, requiring another hard reset. After this it's booted fine.
Each time I've had a reasonable amount of stuff running - Safari with, say, 15 tabs, Quicksilver, Ableton Live 8, Newsfire, iTunes, iCal - but nothing excessive. I can't really make head or tail of the panic logs, but each of them seem similar, and all mention kernel extensions com.apple.NVDAResman and com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily repeatedly. I've also had a couple other occasions where vertical lines have flashed down the screen momentarily. Am I right in thinking this is all most likely related to the graphics card starting to die?
PowerPC :: Screen Bleeding-will It Wreck Computer
Mar 15, 2010I cracked my laptop screen and along some of the crack lines there is a blue, magic marker looking bleeding going on. It has been getting progressively worse. The menu bar on top is fully covered in blue. The blue coloring migrates. My question is, will this destroy the inners of the computer in any way? I am trying to wait for the updated MacBook Pros, but don't want to wait if I am risking frying all my info. I can still use the computer, I just have to move screens around so I can read around the blue blood.

Feb 19, 2010I have a 20" iMac G5 1.8 GHz which has been pretty reliable since new. A few weeks ago I fitted a new Hard-drive (Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB), other than that the computer is bog standard. For the last few days when I start up, the computer switches itself off straight away and I have to press start again. Sometimes it gets as far as the grey screen and sometimes it gets to a complete desktop screen before this happens. This may happen 2 or 3 times and then the computer works fine all day, I can even restart with no problems once it is running fine. As it stands I can live with the problem but I worry that it may get worse. Anyone know what this might be? Could it be related to the new hard-drive? Could it even be related to the cold weather?
