I ask for forgiveness since now if I'm posting something that already exists and I couldn't find, but I wasn't able to find any helpful resource to fix my problem.
I've always used Mail and I like it. I have three addresses, one of the provider, the other two belongs to my personal domain. They've always worked fine.
Since two months they suddenly stopped to send e-mails. The error says there's a problem with smtp server. I tried to change smtp settings, I've edited mail settings, tried to set up another account and tried to download another app for mail: always the same problem. My mother, that has a mac too and an e-mail account with our provider, doesn't have any problem. So I tried to copy those settings on my MacBook Pro.. nothing.
Is there anyway to sync the Mac Mail app and Yahoo! SBC Global server with each other? Like on the iPad, you can move files and such, and it syncs with the server. Can I do the same with my imac?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just had the original HD on my iMac fail suddenly. Apple was great in getting me a replacement quickly. My question concerns the normal operating temperature for the iMac's CPU before versus after the replacement of the HD.I use smcFanControl just to monitor the CPU temps. During the two years I used the original HD, the CPU temp never exceeded 140F. Within two days of running the replacement HD, the temp has been up to 152F several times.
I have great faith in the engineering that Apple put into the iMac, but on the other hand, I did just have the original HD die on me. Recognizing that this could have happened for a myriad of reasons unconnected to CPU temps, I nevertheless wonder about the correlation between HD health and CPU temp.

I am getting very slow UI response in Lion. (iMac 27", 3 GHz, dual core i5 processor, 8 GB ram, 250 GB free on HD). SmartReporter says disk is operating in spec (ie no alarms). Opening disk folder takes 5 seconds to get a spinning beach ball, with another 5 or more seconds to get the folder open. Also slow on directory scan during file opening dialogs. Even get the delay when opening USB drives.
OS 10.7.3, with Apache running, and the usual load of extensions operating. But what I find irritating is that Activity Monitor reports CPU at 25 %, HD occassionally spiking to 100%, but not often, and still I seem to get these unexplained delays. Not fun. Turned off 'disk sleep' in energy saver preferences. Seemed to help for a while. Now not. Reinstalled OS X twice from store and with a USB download stick. Get wierd errors on Console: "5/6/12 5:20:31.000 PM kernel: IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero".
Killing Safari/Flash via Activity Monitor makes a small amount of speed difference, but not much.Any comments? Suggestions? Is this a general issue with Lion? Are there any profiling S/W diagnostics that might suggest where the processor is spending its time?

From time to time, as I am composing a message using Gmail in Safari, the email screen "freezes." I cannot continue to type, copy or paste, or do anything else to manipulate the screen; it is as if the page has become an image. I speculate that this is due to some inadvertant "gesture" on my part, as at other times my Safari screen will sometimes zoom in and out unaccountably, presumably because my track pad senses two fingers pinching instead of scrolling. This latter problem is very annoying, but I attribute it to my own clumsiness. The former problem of the screen freeze is more than annoying, as it requires me to completely redo a sometimes lengthy email. Is there a gesture that causes a screen to be captured as an image?

Ever since I upgraded my Macbook Pro (mid 2009) dual core from Snow Leopard to Lion, the start up time has increased significantly, and the battery life seems to be lower than it has ever been. It has been several months since I upgraded so indexing is not an issue. What should I do, and how can I get back my missing battery life that Lion took away? And how can I make my reboot and startup time faster.

After the latest iPhoto update a week or so ago, my ability to e-mail from iPhoto has stopped.I get an error: "Your email did not go through because the server did not reply.Check your Internet connection. If the connection is working properly, the email server may be down. Try sending your email again later." This is not the case, standard mails work fine and I have removed and added 2 different types of e-mail addresses in iPhoto and its the same (one a .me and one a sky.com) I have diabled the firewall (just in case) but still no joy.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been pretty slack since moving over to my mac book pro but now I find my inbox with roughly 500 emails in it and 80% would be junk from various sites I'm signed up for. I now have flagged all of these address that are spaming me as junk however the only email that moves to the junk folder are the ones I'm individually tagging as junk, the older emails, from the same address remain behind. Is there a way to delete my entire inbox of these junk mails without going through each mail individually?

MBP found 2 of my 3 printers right away. Tried manually configuring the 3rd which is an older HP Laserjet 1320 connected via USB to a D-Link print server. In Win you config using the IP address and port name. Configuration appeared to work but nothing gets sent to printer. If this is an easy fix I would like to go that route but if the print server hardware is too old please suggest good alternative that will work for both Windows and Mac systems as I have both in the house.

Has anyone successfully set up a D-Link DNS320 NAS on their network? The DLink manuals provide minimal to nil instruction for Mac setups.I have setup the NAS with 2 3TB WD Caviar Green drives, but everytime I drag files to folders on the NAS, the Finder either asks for a password or tells me outright I don't have permission to read/write files on the NAS. Other times when I try to dismount the NAS, I need to reboot the Finder to release the NAS so it can be unmounted.None of my folder settings (vies, location, view options) stick from one view/setting to the next. I can't see how the drives were formatted (I am assuming Windows-specific formatting, over which there is no control or access to options).
I have set up the read/write access using the DLINK web interface (10.0.1.1) and all appears to be normal until I try to use the NAS.I have tried to fix ACLs and permissions etc with individual folders and with the volumes themselves using Terminal command "sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` " but this hasn't worked.Various other sites have been visited (eg url...) but no help there. The DLINK web pages are near-totally useless. Unless someone else has gotten theirs to work, its going into the bin and I will have wasted $$ in buying the box

4. Safari tries to open the linked PDF - stops after a few seconds
5. WLAN crashes
6. he has to reboot cable-modem an WLAN-Modem
7. Internet + Mail runs fine after restart
I tried to send him the following link: [URL] He could download this PDF - WLAN was alive I sent him this link: [URL]After clicking this link WLAN crashed. WLAN-Modem is a Netgear Router Cable Modem is UPC MacBook Pro with newest Lion installed - he just bought this machine a week ago. I bought a 2011 mac mini second hand and would like to update product registration and link lion to my apple id - is this possible? When I first switched on the mac mini I was presented with standard setup screen to choose language, then progressed through setup, including entering my apple id. I thought this would have linked my apple id to lion which is pre-installed, but when I signed into mac app store neither lion or iLife suite show up under purchases. My main concern is that I was planning to upgrade hard drive and I won't be able to install lion to it.

I understand the "can't" in downgrading from 10.7 Lion to 10.6 SL, so I'd like to pose a related question.
Assume one has an iMac running 10.6.8 and it dies, and that AppleCare has expired. Assume there is a full TimeMachine backup and two current bootable clones (SuperDuper) as well. One orders a new iMac and it comes with 10.7 installed. I take it you can't clone over the old 10.6, or use Time Machine to make the new iMac like the old iMac in so far as data, preferences, bookmarks and so forth are concerened. Am I correct in this understanding?
If so, how would one, having 3 current 10.6.8 backups, get the new 10.7 iMac set up with data, photos, user preferences, bookmarks and so forth from the clone or the TimeMachine? Could you even use the backups?
