MacBook Pro :: Websites Not Encrypted - Can't Recognize Certificate
Sep 3, 2010Are any of you having this problem? Yesterday I installed the most recent patch from Apple in my Macbook Pro, can�t remember the number of it, sorry about that. Today I noticed a serious fault in my computer. When I�m trying to access any website that is supposed to be encrypted (ie. Paypal, banks, etc) they aren�t encrypted or are only partially encrypted. I am pretty sure that this wasn�t happening before. I haven�t installed any software recently and everything was working fine until yesterday, the day I installed the security update. So I guess it�s not a coincidence. When I try it on Firefox the websites are not encrypted and when I try it on Safari I get a warning from Safari saying that it can�t recognise the certificate or that is invalid. Any of you have experienced this?

Mar 27, 2012After installing Lion on my MBP several dmg's I had encrypted under Snow Leopard and prior will not open. They still open on an iMac with Snow Leopard. I have repaired permissions and restarted the MBP, but no joy.

May 9, 2012I decided not to use just one partition with my disk because i wanted to separte important documents from the OS and apps so reformated my disk with 2 partitions 1 for OS and apps and one for docs. I also wanted to keep the docs partition secure so it was my intention to use filevault... however it learned that file vault would only work on my whole disk and not on a sigle volume. At least thats the only option i get when i go to "Turn on FileVault" in the Security and Privacy of system preferences. So what i tried next was to reformat the "docs" partition i have created using the Mac OS extended (journaled) encrypted option. This option seemed to work but after formating the partition, I could not mount the volume.
Question is: what is the best way for what i am trying to do and how to do it.
a) is there a way to use FileVault on a single volume instead of the whle disk?
b) alternatively, how to format an encrypted partition and mount it?

V10.7 Lion :: OS X Won't Boot After Being Installed On An Encrypted Partition
Apr 1, 2012Today i formatted my entire disk, but made it Journaled, Encrypted. It installed (actually "downloaded aditional files"), and then booted with a cross/do not proceed sign. I booted from the install disk again, got an error telling me to reinstall OS X. I was never asked for my password, and when i started disk utility, the disk was locked.

Apr 20, 2012I had a necessity to install from an encrypted Hard drive using the Lion USB Boot Drive. When I attempted to restore from the drive, I was unable to do so.
After finally completing a complete install of Lion, I was able to use Migration assistant. But I still had to reinstall and reconfigure several things necessary to my business.Â
Is this a shortcoming of a reconstruction process or is there something I should have done?

May 25, 2012I had been using Time Machine successfully for a while now but I am going traveling and thought I better encrypt my backup just in case it get's lost or stolen. I turned on encryption and chose a password, I don't really know if it completed the process as I was away from my computer, I susepct it failed, what I do know is every-time I plug the drive in I get the popup FileVault window and once I put my password in and select unlock it just goes grey, it's not saying it's incorrect just nothing happens and the drive does not mount.Â
I can see the drive in Disk Utility but if I select it I get the spinning beach-ball. I'm afraid encryption has destroyed my new 2TB drive (less than a month old). I don't really want to attempt to erase the drive as it contains other data that is not back of the Time Machine backup. I'm running 10.7.4. What can I do to get the drive mounted?

Jun 23, 2012After the latest iPhoto update a week or so ago, my ability to e-mail from iPhoto has stopped.I get an error:Â "Your email did not go through because the server did not reply.Check your Internet connection. If the connection is working properly, the email server may be down. Try sending your email again later."Â This is not the case, standard mails work fine and I have removed and added 2 different types of e-mail addresses in iPhoto and its the same (one a .me and one a sky.com) I have diabled the firewall (just in case) but still no joy.

Feb 14, 2012I keep several encrypted disk images in the Dropbox folder on my laptop. Can I use File Vault to encrypt the laptop when it contains these already encrypted .dmg and .sparsebundle files? Or will this double encryption harm them? Â
(These folders need to be individually encrypted to reside in an encrypted form on the Dropbox server. If I unencrypt them and use only File Vault, then when I'm on the computer and File Vault is off, the folders will sync to Dropbox in their unencrypted form. I want to keep these folders individually encrypted for security on the Dropbox server, then use FIle Vault on top of that to secure the rest of my laptop in case of theft).

Feb 17, 2012If I encrypt an external drive using File Vault 2 (Lion 10.7.3) as a Time Machine backup from my current laptop, then later purchase a new laptop and attempt to read that encrypted backup, will there be any problems to consider? Â
1) I expect that, since the password will be stored on my current laptop, there would be a problem reading the password on a new laptop Â
2) I was told that opening a File Vault 2Â encrypted external drive would require the same laptop, as the encryption creates a match of serial numbers between the laptop and the encrypted drive.Â

May 27, 2012I am using 10.6.8 but I created a Lion partition on the same disk. I am trying out Lion and I do not want Time Machine to back it up. I was able to exclude the Lion volume until I encrypted the Lion partition using Filevault 2. Now when I'm using Snow Leopard, there doesn't seem to be a way of preventing Time Machine from backing up the Lion partition.

May 31, 2012I've been pretty slack since moving over to my mac book pro but now I find my inbox with roughly 500 emails in it and 80% would be junk from various sites I'm signed up for. I now have flagged all of these address that are spaming me as junk however the only email that moves to the junk folder are the ones I'm individually tagging as junk, the older emails, from the same address remain behind. Is there a way to delete my entire inbox of these junk mails without going through each mail individually?

I tried to enter them in the parental controls in System Preferences using the "Try to limit access to adult websties automatically" option, and entering the sites I wanted to restrict them from. What I got was kids asking me every five seconds to approve another website - it seems that only sites on the approved list under Customize were allowed. That isn't what I wanted. I wanted only to enter two or three sites that they are specifically precluded from.

Other newspapers work fine. I have tried asking the Telegraph but got no response from them - 'it's a local issue', I was told. Clearly. I've tried updating Flash Player, Quicktime, DivX and Silverlight, not having much of a clue what it is.Â

Jun 13, 2012There are some sites, like url...that won't load properly in Safari, Chrome, nor Firefox. I'm not able to hover over my account to sign-out, as well as not able to paste links to get them to shorten it. The site loads fine on my iPhone and iPad, but not on my Macbook Pro.Other sites like Mashable, I'm not able to view any of the galleries.I've tried logging in as a guest, still the same issue. I even tried disabling ALL the plugins that are on the mac, still, same issue.
