OS X V10.7 Lion :: Authentication Fails When Installing Programs
Apr 8, 2012
When installing programs that requires me to provide admin privileges to install them, it fails. It always fails, its not just for one specifik program.
1. I click the .app, .pkg, .mpkg or whatever is about to be installed.
2. Click through the wizard that shows up (license, install location etc)
3. When it is time to install, a dialog window pops up. This is where i write my password and click OK.
4. The password is accepted and the dialog closes.
5. Now nothing happens, the program does not get installed.
(when the installer is just dragging the app to Applications, it works)

I working on an (let me say "enterprise") oddly problem. To connect to Internet our company make use of a http proxy, based on TrendMicro IWSS, configured to authenticate users with AD credential, forcing digest authentication with NTLM.
The loginout windows on safari reports "unencrypted" , but analyzing tcp/ip traffic with Wireshark, it really seems that NTLM has been used and so password is really crypted..
Using Apple Mail on Mac Pro , ver 10.7.4--have RCN as ISP Intermittently I receive a message saying "password rejected by pop server"-- I receive emails properly otherwise but out of nowhere this goes on for weeks. I had this problem on previous OS with Entourage. RCN said it was Apple. Apple said it was Entourage. Switched to Apple Mail now and getting same problem Apple says Under Pref-settings-advanced Use Authenticated Pop, instead of Password-but this doesn't work at all. RCN is useless, have no idea and blames apple. Applecare says " Oh, i don't know anything about AppleMail."Â

I have 2 internal drives, one which is an ssd and full. The other is a 1TB internal hdd and I use it mainly for everything that aren't programs.
Now that my ssd (boot drive) is full, I want to install my programs to my internal drive, but I can't find the option to do so. Specifically the program I'm trying to install is XCode.
I juts bought a new Macbook Pro and I downloaded a program I would like to use to make music called Sylenth1 after buying this I tried to installed it by first downloading the dmg file on to my downloads folder, then clicking the box which opened up installer. I followed all the on screen commands to install the program properly, and after instilation it made the chiming noise. Now I cannot find the program anywhere on this computer...
I have been reading through the Lion Server pages for Active Directory and came across the following question. Does the procedure listed in the URL below allow the users whose Macs are joined to the OS X server, to login with Active Directory credentials. Pass-through auth. for lack of a better term. [URL]...The procedure reads as if it is just joining the server to the domain and not configuring authentication.Â
I've recently joined/binded to our domain. All appears to be working as expected. Although one message keeps popping up in the finder at random moments. Doesn't seem related to anything that is being done at the time. It says Proxy authenication required. Authentication for HTTP proxy my.proxy.name  and has username and password to be filled in.Â
Where/what logs can be viewed to determine what program is wanting to get thru the proxy? I'm guessing it is an auto-update of something but I've turned everything off that I can find and it still is popping up. Hoping a log somewhere will tell me what is trying to gain access so I can turn off the attempt.Â
I've bought my 13" MBP (love it) but need to dual boot to run some programs, so I bought the Windows 7 Prof 64bit Upgrade. Now... because it's the upgrade version do I need to have a previous version of a Windows OS installed before I can upgrade or can I install straight away? Another question, at some point I'm tempted to upgrade to the 500gb Momentus XT. Will my Windows 7 disk be okay for multiple installs?
I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem but I am currently running Lion and I can't seem to get past the step that asks for your password whenever you install a program. It asks for my password, I type it in but it does not proceed to the next step. It would be great if anyone can assist me with this issue.
I'm working on an inherited MacBook Pro, and Installing the MS Office 2008 program from my employer, an online educator. The program installs, but I can't open any of the applications except for Entourage.
I have an IMACÂ OS 10.8Â I am terrible about remembering passwords and I am installing something and cannot remember my password. How to you recover it and or change it
Apparently I have over 170 GB of programs saved on my hard drive, but I do not use it for anything fancy or did not install anything spectacular. When checking the program size, iMovie is the biggest one with only 2,1 GB. I cannot find the reason why there should be so much on the hard drive. Â
I have a Macbook Pro of middle 2010, updated to Yosemite lately.
Info: MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
I boughht a used MacBook Air and installed my system via TimeMachine. But it's an older backup with only 10.7.3.Â
I tried the systems Software Update, but it fails after loading over 90% of the data. Then I tried manual downloading the files for combo and system update - but everything fals on my macbook air with the error that the destination file cannot be written.Â
Then I thought let me download it using the iMac - but the same error here - the download fails after about 80% telling me that the destination file cannot be written.Â
What can I do to get my MacBookAir updated to 10.7.4 ?
I am trying to use the Apple-approved method of changing a user account short name. This involves enabling the Root User, logging in as root, and then perform a few simple steps. I've done this many times before successfully on many different Macs. However on this particular MacBook Air, while I can enable root and enter the appropriate password via the "Other" choice at the 10.7 login screen, logging in as root fails. Here's what happens:
I've got this older iMac but it has 2 GB and few weeks ago I managed to install Lion on a second partition of the internal HD. Sometimes the computer would hang or cause problems and I decided to install the whole system from scratch. After several failed attemps I finally figured, that the internal HD had a defect. So I decided to use an external usb drive to fix that problem for the beginning and before I think about changing the internal hard drive. I created 3 partitions with a GUID-table on the external usb drive and managed to install Leopard on the first partition and so far it's working fine and I boot from that external usb drive.Â
Now I wanted to install Lion on that computer. So I took that Lion thumb stick I purchased from apple and pressed the option key during boot in order to select booting from the thumb stick. It worked for the beginning and a message like "Installation" appeared. After a while the installation would stop with a message like "an error occured during installation, please try again". I did this two times but it never finished the installation.
Having recently upgrade to OS X, when I click on the Mail App, it open saying something about "upgrading existing emails...", the box then closes and nothing happens. It does this every time I try to open Mail. I've deleted my gmail account profile through System and rebooted, but no joy.
I recently got a new MacBook (upgrading to 7.2 with lion) and put all my old data on it using a time machine backup from an external hard drive. Now, when I try to create a backup on time machine to the same external device I get an error message that says I don't have enough free space on the drive to complete the back-up. I've deleted some of the oldest back-ups from the external drive, but time machine doesn't seem to notice the newly available space.
Is the first backup on the new computer larger then normal? It says it requires 215gb but the external drive is 250gb so clearly I haven't needed that much space in the past as there are numerous back-ups from my old Macbook on this drive.

I tried to update to the latest version of Lion -- I have 10.7, and received this message. Â
With OS 10.7. whatever as the named update. So, I tried the next night, and now the OS update doesn't show in Software Update - I checked - I'm still running 10.7, and when I tried to download the printer driver - got this message again.Â

I had to restore my Macbook Pro to a previous backup because of an issue I am experiencing. I seleted the Restore option in Lion Recovery, I seleteced the backup I want to restore from on my Time Capsule to restore, initially the restoration looked good. However once the progress reached 0.6% the restore simply stopped and the estimated time rocketed indefinitely up to some 200 hours. After I gave it a second attempt, this time again the restoration stopped at 0.6%, and when the estimated time reached around 26 hours an error message showed up saying the files cannot be restored and prompted me to restart my computer. I have attempted a repair of the sparesbundle in Disk Utility on my iMac and I am giving it a third attempt. I haven't done anything to the sparesbundle file and it backs up perfectly fine up until this morning right before I decided to restore my old system so I am brushing file corruption aside.
I have a user with a new 13" MacBook Pro, which got rather misconfiguration during intial setup. We thought it might be easiest to erase and start afresh, so I booted into the Lion recovery partition. Firstly, tried to customise the Lion installation as per previous versions, but the 'Customise' choice is greyed out. Ok, no Erase and Reinstall option then. In Disk Utility, I erased the partition, and renamed it something sensible (UserHD).  Back to the install, all proceeded correctly until it tried downloading files from Apple. At this point, the progress bar moved slowly across, until it reached the end and I was presented with an error message along the lines that it failed to download additional components from Apple. Â
I have tried this four times, with various combinations of Wifi, and wired ethernet connections, all with the same result.Booting into Internet Recovery mode (Cmd-Opt-R) also fails:Â after an initial moving glode icon, and a small amount of the progress bar, I get the exlcamation mark icon, apple.com/support and error code -2105FÂ The laptop is now unuseable, because we can't restore it. Â
1: Can I tell it NOT to go to the internet first? Every other OS Installer lets you install first, and then go off to download additional components.
2: I note in the Installer logs that it thinks it's about 8 hours behind local time. Is this a problem (perhaps with SSL cert verification?)
3: Does the download happen over non-standard ports? (eg. something that may be being blocked by our firewall?)Â
I updated to 10.7.3 48 hours ago and my Apple bluetooth keybaord does not work. My Mac Pro system is several years old and does not have an internal bluetooth. I have been using a bluetooth dongle successfully. The keyboard goes through the pairing process normally and appears connected in the System Preferences (Bluetooth) application but no characters appear when typing on the keyboard in any application.Â
I have several messages "Module: SystemCache Misconfiguration detected in hash 'Kerberos'" in my System Logs. Having browsed the forums, I found this most likely to be caused by User Records in the local LDAP database created with Workgroup Maager instead of Server.app. [URL]I wanted to fix these entries with the directory editor pane but the tool fails to connect toDirectory service /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/.If I supply wrong user credentials, the message indactes a wrong username or passworf, but if I give the right credentials for the administration user of the LDAP directory, it simply sais "failed to connect (5000)". how I can convince the directory editor to let me edit the database?
