Had to wipe my hard drive and re install Lion from Internet Recovery. Am downloading Maverick to upgrade now but computer running so slow and colored "progress wheel" on the screen every time I try do something. Had never seen that wheel before now. How do I speed it up other than downloading and installing Maverick.?

Sorry for the title but I couldn't think of anything better. Hopefully I'll be able to explain my problem. I have a MPR 2.53 ghz, 4 gig ram, I'm using Safari 4.04. I am using the WIFI at a guesthouse in Thailand (but I had the same issue in China, Vietnam ...). I ran a speed test and it said download 7mb/sec and upload about 1mb/sec. I have an "app" that says bandwidth in 1.3kb/sec out 1.0kbs. I thought maybe it was Safari so I downloaded and installed Firefox. firefox gives me similar speeds. When I downloaded Firefox though I had a download speed of over 1mb/sec. But as soon as it finished downloading the speed went back to around 1kb/sec. I have rebooted my MBP many times. I did some Google searches but didn't find anything helpful.

i read up on something called port fowarding, but i want to be sure about what im doing before i start poking around my mac
Slow browser speed on all browsers, but the downloading and uploading speed are normal according to speedtest.net. Ping is a bit high. Other computers in the house are fine.Already contacted ISP (Time Warner), modem is not the problem. Contacted Linksys router support, router is fine.

I have already partitioned my hard drive using bootcamp. When I purchased the software, it gave me three downloadable files, and I downloaded all of them. One of them was titled setup box 1, and another was titled set up box 2, when I try to click on either of those, it says there is no default application specified to open the document. View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed (and subsequently uninstalled) two different fan control programs... Since then, my fan speed has increased somewhat dramatically. Instead of the normal 2000 rpm (approx), it now runs at 3500 to 4500 rpm with CPU temps between 55 & 65 deg. C. I'm wondering if one of the programs modified some fan setting and how I can restore the factory defaults. I'm on a Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8 *additional note: I only have one fan running (left fan), which is why I downloaded the fan control programs in the first place... but the left fan was running at around 2000 rpm even though it was the only fan (until I installed those programs)

i've got a 6 year old 12 inch powerbook G4 1.33 ghz that has internet speeds around 5177kbps, but overall its a bit dated sooo I wanted something a bit more new. I recently picked up a white 2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook, HOWEVER the internet wireless speeds on it is dismal in comparison. I'm getting download speeds on average around 405kbps and upload speeds are pretty much non-existant! I've matched both of them to the same internet settings and they are both running 10.5.8. So again I'm stumped and if anybody can give me some idea as to what to do, Id greatly appreciate it!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently upgraded to SL and have a few issues. I am still kinda new to OSX even though I've had an iMac for a a few years. I mainly was using Windows 7 on Bootcamp, but now want to really get to know OSX.
First, in Leopard there were icons on the desktop for my MAC hard drive and my Windows hard drive. But after installing SL they aren't on there. I liked the idea of having them on the desktop for quick access. Can someone let me know how to get them back on the desktop?
Second I have a Razer DeathAdder mouse I use. I have the latest OSX drivers installed. This problem I've had with Leopard and Snow Leopard is that even though I've set the tracking speed under System Preferences, after rebooting the tracking goes all the way back to down the the lowest setting. I've tried setting it in the DeathAdder's software and in the regular preferences in OSX but after reboot it always goes back down. It is annoying cause it tracks way to slow and I have to manually up it a few notches whenever I boot up.
IWeb disappeared while doing a recent upgrade to Maverick. Sugestions to applications that have ease of ftp configeration that are free.

I am on Mountain Lion (10.8.2) now, and my Microsoft Office 2008 works fine. I am concerned to upgrade to Maverick (10.9.2), and loose my compatibility with PPT, etc. any thoughts?
