For some reason the Mac terminal utility has suddenly started to pop up every time I attempt to down load a program. This has never happened before and I am not sure how to make the changes so this does not happen.

I am having some trouble lately with deleting a certain program, Little Snitch. Now I deleted the program, but I am unable to find the UIAgent and the Network Monitor Files. (Picture Below) Is there a way to delete them using Terminal or anyway at all?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am a totally new Mac user and am struggling with the concept of these .dmg files that are downloaded to my desktop when i install a new application (example firefox) and then when i try to delete this file after the installation completes it appears the program requires this to run?
What do you typically do with the files after installaion? Is there a default setting someplace that tells the OS to dump and store these some place else in my HDD?
I also dont understand the icon that then gets placed on my desktop of the (in this example) firefox application... it looks like a new drive but its actually how i start the application? is it the equivalent of a link in windows or is that the .exe and my default file save settings are screwy?
I want to have an idea of what to download when I get my MBP in 2 weeks, as in if there are any exclusive programs for Mac that aren't on Windows. I at least plan on downloading Firefox, Chrome, Skype, AIM, Google Earth, Videora (is there a better alternative that comes with OSX?), etc.

Things like OS critical updates; Adobe updates; VMware trial software; games; virus definitions. The download run into problems when unpacking - most common error is that verification failed but there are also failures in unzipping files (NAV installer being the most recent).
I have checked a number of forums and found similar problems but none seem to work (eg. mounting from disk utility). The only thing I haven't done is reinstall from OS archive disk as this could entail reinstalling a lot of things (mind-boggling).
I have a MacBook (2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRam) running OSX 10.4.11 and also have Parallels 3 (build 5608) running Vista. The download problems seemed to begin with updating the Parallels software. I received the verification error or a checksum error. I resolved this problem by using different download sites. When investigating this problem it was suggested that the ISP provider was at fault. Is this possible?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAnybody see this before? I opened up Terminal.app and the window is completely blank. There is nothing in it whatsoever. Looks as if bash never started. The title bar simply says "Terminal — login — 80x24". I can type whatever I want in the Terminal window like it's a text document and nothing happens. If I restart the computer, this seems to fix the problem, but it seems to only be a temporary fix as the issue happens again soon after.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to do something in terminal, and it asks for my password. I press a letter on my keyboard, and nothing appears. I am in the right window and everything, terminal just doesn't react to my typing. However, when I click enter, it says 'Sorry,try again'. So it does react to the enter key.
I'm running Symantec Backup Agent on our mac osx server. I start the agent in the terminal (./agent.be). It returns a notification that it started the service, however, it doesn't return to the prompt. Closing the terminal gives a warning that the process will be closed if the terminal is closed. Closing it does kill the process. Ctrl+c to return to the prompt also kills the process. So it's as if once the process is started in the terminal, nothing can be altered.
I am not much of a mac guy so please forgive me if this is a stupid question.
Anyone have any advice on how to handle this so the process is ALWAYS running?
I'm on a standard user account and I would really like to install icalbuddy which is a terminal app. When I install apps normally I simply have to provide a admin name and pw, but this doesn't work when it is a terminal app because it requires that the 'su' command be run.
So I thought that I could run terminal as admin through 'su - admin' and then install. But of course the admin account doesn't have access to the user folder where the installer is located. I just can't win.
can't access my desktop from the sidebar. Keeps opening in terminal window. Also when trying to save from an email, I cannot save to desktop

Today when I logged into Terminal, I saw that instead of my regular name along with the bash prompt, it said unknown00231224c68c. I checked my Computer and network names under Settings> Sharing. (I have Web sharing enabled and and my computer's website is also called "00231224". I do not know why this is happening. I took a screenshot of it so you guys can see what's happening.

I can't open a silverlight dmg file to watch netflix. I am running Lion on my 2.66ghz iMac i5 with 10.7.3. I can download and install silverlight but when I try to open the file, it always opens the Terminal window.Â

I've been struggling to move my data (photos / music etc) from my old G5 imac to my new imac (lion).Had iphoto all sorted (copied the files from external HD to Pictures folder.But now when I click on 'photos' it opens terminal (!!??)*I can see the files within but only if I CTRL click and choose 'open package'.I really don't understand. I just opened iphoto and it says I have to 'upgrade' again.I did just attempt to open the original iphoto library which is still on the connected hard drive but I didn't upgrade and don't know why that would affect the duplicate library on my new imac?

When an email arrives while working in Quark or Photoshop (and other programs) we leave the program and go to mail to read it. On returning to either Quark or Photoshop etc the program has stopped responding requiring a force quit. Mail also seems to be running slower than usual.
