OS X V10.7 Lion :: IMac Switching Off By Itself

Nov 2, 2010Im going to be getting a Samsung XL2370, but before I get it I wanted to ask this-
Can I connect it to my PS3 using the HDMI out, and use it as an external with my iMac using the DVI out, switching between them without disconnecting cables?
I was pretty dead set on doing this, because it seems like a pretty reasonable thing to assume a monitor can do, but was never really sure.
If the answer is no, can you recommend me a monitor with the same specs (response time, colors/contrast, and price), or tell me what I need to do to switch between the two without disconnecting everything.
PowerPC :: IMac G5 Switching Itself Off Randomly / Fix It?
May 2, 2006Does anyone know what may be up with my Mac G5?? It just keeps on turning itself off without warning! It can happen at anytime... usually about 5 mins after I switch it on, although this has varied!

Jan 18, 2010A friend of mine currently runs CS4 on a 2GB Windows Vista PC and he is thinking about switching to a new Imac. He has never used Mac OS before and is a bit reluctant to ditch Windows completely. As far as I can see he has a few options, such as using Bootcamp or swapping his Windows version of CS4 for the Mac version.
But I saw a programme called Parallels Switch to Mac which is supposed to migrate his existing Windows set up onto a new Mac.This looks like a good compromise to me, but does anybody run CS4 using Parallels? If so, are there any known issues and does it run at a reasonable speed.

My currrent solution for switching from speakers to headphones (or vice versa) involves physically turning the computer, disconnecting one input in the headphone jack, and putting in the other one.

IMac :: Making Loud Whir When Fast Switching Enabled
May 16, 2009I was watching WWDC 2003(panther intro) this morning, and I only just learned about Fast Account Switching from it. So, right after watching, I went to system preferences and enabled fast switching. However, right after I did this, my iMac made an unusually loud whir, which I assumed was the hard drive loading some files, although I have never heard it do this before. After about a minute of hearing this, I assumed that something was wrong, and I quit all applications other than system preferences, and when it didn't stop, I disabled Fast Switch. The iMac quickly quieted down. After thinking about it, I realized that I only had 1GB of RAM in the machine, which may cause the system to use virtual memory. Would having 2GB or even 4GB make this not happen, or would I need more than that? I never have noticed the iMac lagging in other areas, but would RAM help in general tasks too?

Oct 26, 2009I have had my iMac for about 4 months, i have been using it as my main desktop since. I have noticed black smudges, kinda like finger prints on the screen that would not go away after cleaning it with a damp cloth. I removed the glass panel and cleaned inside the glass and the problem still remained.
This is not the main issue, i can live it with. I have two iMacs with the same specs, one is in my main home office that i used most of the time while the other is my home that i use not that much. The smudges does annoy me when i watch movies a little bit but its not enough to get me to replace my mac. I was thinking since i used my office iMac more is it possible to switch the hard drives on them so that i get all the info from my office iMac onto my home iMac without complications?
Since i dont use the home iMac as much as the office one i can tolerate a few black smudges more and i would have an iMac in the office that looked new.If i switch the hard drives will it be as if i switch macs and if anyones knows how to fix the black smudges it would be a great help.

Sep 11, 2014Just purchased a new iMac that came with a wireless keyboard. When I am working on accounting documents, I wish to use a numeric keyboard. The apple numeric keyboard I purchased does not seem to always work when I turn on my computer. It seems to only want to pick up the bluetooth keyboard. I have tried disconnecting the bluetooth keyboard but then it says "no keyboard found" even though I have the numeric keyboard plugged into the USB.

Jun 1, 2012This problem happens when I'm working between several applications at a time. I'm actively working in the current app when OSX automatically pulls me out and shows me something in a background app that suddenly requires attention, like a dialog box. Quite often I open or save files while working on something else, ususally in fullscreen mode. Moments later, I'm disruptively switched to a file that just opened in another application, or I'm told that something was saved, updated, installed, etc. This automatic switch interrupts my typing or commands in the app I was currently engaging, and has become a major problem.Â
Is there a way to keep OSX from pulling me out of my current application?

Apr 7, 2012I use English, Korean and Google Japanese. I used to use Windows with the same set of languages and it was even more difficult than in OS X, because each IME may have multiple languages (for example, Korean IME has both Korean and English mode). Now in OS X it is better than Windows because each IME has only single language, but still there are some troubles.Â
I use long command + shift. It shows the list in the middle of the screen, but the order is change depending on the current IME. And it only has text, no flag icon, so it is difficult to get the IME I want without carefully watching the screen.Â
It looks like OS X does not support assinging a shortcut for each langauge. For example, if I could assign F1 for English, F2 for Korean and F3 for Japanese it would be much easier. Or if only the popup language screen had flag icons...Â
Is there any third-party app that helps switching between multiple IMEs?

Apr 28, 2012Sometimes, I'm browsing the web, and Lion will slide back to my desktop, with the menu bar at the top of the screen (the white one) still showing Opera as the active application. Then, after a few seconds, it'll switch back. Then back again. It happens during casual browsing, when I'm filling out an HTML form (like this one), and in applications besides Opera, like iTunes, Mail and Final Cut.I've tried kill-all Dock and restarting the Finder through the force quit menu, to no avail.

Feb 4, 2012I have one particular application I use that requirems me to temporarily switch my audio input and output to different sources. Once I've used the app., I switch them back to their previous state.Â
I use Soundsource which gives me quick menu-bar access to the inputs/outputs but I still have to set them indiviudally. I was hoping there might be a way to have one or more 'sound sets' which have different combinations of inputs and outputs and then just switch between the sets.Â
In the absence of any such app. (or is there one?) does anyone know how I could write an Applescript to do this?Â

1) I'll have a Chrome window open on #2 at a website to help me study vocabulary. However, when I'm at #1 and I click the Chrome icon in the dock to open a new browser to check email, it automatically takes me to desktop #2. While I can just check my email at #2, I want to keep that desktop exclusively for studying vocabulary. Is there any way to make MC treat each desktop as a separate desktop and NOT jump between desktops?Â
2) This seems to be a MS Office specific annoyance. I'll have a excel document open on #1 and #2. When I close the excel document on #1, MC automatically takes me to the document in #2, when I just wanted to close the #1 document and stay in #1. Â
3) A different scenario of the previous annoyance. There's an excel document open in #2 and I'm currently in #1. When I open an excel document MC...
- takes me to the ALREADY opened document in #2
- opens the document I wanted, but places it in #1
so that I'm in the wrong space AND not even looking at the document I just opened.

Jun 22, 2012I have two users setup on my late 2011 15" MBP with OSX 10.7.4. Occaissionaly when I utilitze Fast User Switching and switch to another user, the background picture will disappear and revert to the default blue background. I do not know what causes it or triggers it. So far I've fixed it by resetting the background back to the desired picture.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Switching To Application Doesn't Move To Correct Desktop
Apr 16, 2012I have an annoying problem with application switching since I have upgraded to Mac OS Lion from Snow Leopard.Now switching between applications doesn't work as good as it was in Snow Leopard.
Right now I have Finder and Xcode opened. Xcode is assigned to only one specific Desktop and Finder is assigned to None. And when I am in Xcode for example and use Cmd-Tab to switch to Finder, it deactivates my current window, but doesn't move to the space with Finder or makes Finder active. Then, I press Cmd-Tab again, and it makes Finder active (My top panel controls show Finder now) but I still stay in the space with Xcode. And further switching doesn't do anything. So I then need to manually to click on the Finder icon in the Dock. And the same is vice versa when switching from Finder to Xcode.Â
If I switch by clicking the Finder Dock icon it then works in two steps: first time it deactivates current window, and after second click it moves to Finder Desktop and makes Finder active.Â
Another issue is with Safari when I am in Fullscreen mode and have also Activity window opened. If I am in Finder and switch with Cmd-Tab to Safari, it just shows me the Activity window in the same Desktop no matter how many times I Cmd-Tab. To switch to Main Safari window I need to click on the Dock icon.If I switch only by clicking the Dock icon, then I again need to click it twice.Â
Option for moving to space with selected application in Preference Pane is switched on and Automatically rearrangement of last used applications as well.Â

Mar 11, 2009I'll be switching from a PC to a MAc, and it just dawned on me that there are a number of cookies on my computer which I would like to take with me. I find some cookies to be very valuable. Some sites, I want to remember me; such as, banking and some shopping sites. Also forums and other places which have passwords and can remember me, or can remember where I've been on the site. Is there anyway to take those along? My procedure is to copy everything I need to my external drive and then copying from there to the Mac. I don't think I'll have much of a problem finding out where things should be put; so, I'm not using any automatic migration assistance or plugging the two computers together.
