Hardware :: Switching Between PS3 And IMac?

Im going to be getting a Samsung XL2370, but before I get it I wanted to ask this-
Can I connect it to my PS3 using the HDMI out, and use it as an external with my iMac using the DVI out, switching between them without disconnecting cables?
I was pretty dead set on doing this, because it seems like a pretty reasonable thing to assume a monitor can do, but was never really sure.
If the answer is no, can you recommend me a monitor with the same specs (response time, colors/contrast, and price), or tell me what I need to do to switch between the two without disconnecting everything.

I have a problem with the IMac switching itself off. It has done it when I clicked the launchpad and other icons.

Does anyone know what may be up with my Mac G5?? It just keeps on turning itself off without warning! It can happen at anytime... usually about 5 mins after I switch it on, although this has varied!

A friend of mine currently runs CS4 on a 2GB Windows Vista PC and he is thinking about switching to a new Imac. He has never used Mac OS before and is a bit reluctant to ditch Windows completely. As far as I can see he has a few options, such as using Bootcamp or swapping his Windows version of CS4 for the Mac version.
But I saw a programme called Parallels Switch to Mac which is supposed to migrate his existing Windows set up onto a new Mac.This looks like a good compromise to me, but does anybody run CS4 using Parallels? If so, are there any known issues and does it run at a reasonable speed.

With my iMac, I have Swan M10 external speakers that I love. I also like to use headphones sometimes.
My currrent solution for switching from speakers to headphones (or vice versa) involves physically turning the computer, disconnecting one input in the headphone jack, and putting in the other one.

I was watching WWDC 2003(panther intro) this morning, and I only just learned about Fast Account Switching from it. So, right after watching, I went to system preferences and enabled fast switching. However, right after I did this, my iMac made an unusually loud whir, which I assumed was the hard drive loading some files, although I have never heard it do this before. After about a minute of hearing this, I assumed that something was wrong, and I quit all applications other than system preferences, and when it didn't stop, I disabled Fast Switch. The iMac quickly quieted down. After thinking about it, I realized that I only had 1GB of RAM in the machine, which may cause the system to use virtual memory. Would having 2GB or even 4GB make this not happen, or would I need more than that? I never have noticed the iMac lagging in other areas, but would RAM help in general tasks too?

I have had my iMac for about 4 months, i have been using it as my main desktop since. I have noticed black smudges, kinda like finger prints on the screen that would not go away after cleaning it with a damp cloth. I removed the glass panel and cleaned inside the glass and the problem still remained.
This is not the main issue, i can live it with. I have two iMacs with the same specs, one is in my main home office that i used most of the time while the other is my home that i use not that much. The smudges does annoy me when i watch movies a little bit but its not enough to get me to replace my mac. I was thinking since i used my office iMac more is it possible to switch the hard drives on them so that i get all the info from my office iMac onto my home iMac without complications?
Since i dont use the home iMac as much as the office one i can tolerate a few black smudges more and i would have an iMac in the office that looked new.If i switch the hard drives will it be as if i switch macs and if anyones knows how to fix the black smudges it would be a great help.

Just purchased a new iMac that came with a wireless keyboard. When I am working on accounting documents, I wish to use a numeric keyboard. The apple numeric keyboard I purchased does not seem to always work when I turn on my computer. It seems to only want to pick up the bluetooth keyboard. I have tried disconnecting the bluetooth keyboard but then it says "no keyboard found" even though I have the numeric keyboard plugged into the USB.

I'm making the transition over to Apple.. I'm considering either the new 21.5" iMac or a refurbished 24". I'll be using this for photography and will need to use the built-in screen until I allocate funds for a better monitor like the NEC LCD2690WUXI2. I'll be switching from a PC to a MAc, and it just dawned on me that there are a number of cookies on my computer which I would like to take with me. I find some cookies to be very valuable. Some sites, I want to remember me; such as, banking and some shopping sites. Also forums and other places which have passwords and can remember me, or can remember where I've been on the site. Is there anyway to take those along? My procedure is to copy everything I need to my external drive and then copying from there to the Mac. I don't think I'll have much of a problem finding out where things should be put; so, I'm not using any automatic migration assistance or plugging the two computers together.

I currently have a 1.5TB external hard drive ive been using with my PC, (approx 90% full) which i believe is in NTFS format.
I have heard rumours i may have to re-format this to Fat32 in order for it to function correctly with my Mac.
Is this correct? can anyone shed some light on the situation?

When the MBPs came out with the dual graphics cards, people believed that they would be able to fast-switch between then. However, this is not the case; a logout-login is required to switch between the 9400M and 9600M GT on the MBPs. It was thought with the release of Snow Leopard this would be fixed.
So, has it been? will it be? Any word on using both graphics cards at the same time to boost performance?

did the way that you switch through open windows change in SL? usually I hit ` to switch through windows and shift ` to go backwards through the list. Now it seems though the window order isn't being followed correctly. Lets say i have 5 open windows starting at 1 hitting ` takes me to window 2 then 3 then 4 then 5 then 1. typing shift ` would take me to 5 then 4 then 3 then 2 then back to 1. Now though, under SL it seems not to follow that very simple design rather if I start at one and page through to say 3 then start again it jumps back to 1 then to 2 then to 3 and then finally to 4. I have little to no knowledge of the compatibility of the Macmini to a PC. I currently own a 4 yr old HP Pavilion. There's not much wrong with it, it's slowed a little, but my husband and I have been wanting a Mac. We saw the Mac mini and like what we see, but we don't want to have to buy a new printer and monitor when both work perfectly. The monitor is an HP vs15 and the printer is a HP Photosmart USB. Will these work if we buy the Mac mini?

My logic board broke on my 07 mbp and i decided to buy a new 15" i7 anti glare 7200rpm. My question is how should i go about getting my files onto my new computer. I have a time machine backup, will it let me just install that onto my new computer? If so, do I want to do this or will that cause problems since its a different machine.

when i plug in my ipod into my first mac i can transfer purchases and backup, but i cant edit anything on my ipod through itunes. I get a message saying that it is synced with another computer (PC), do i want to erase (i click cancel). How do i make it so that i can change stuff on my ipod through my mac on itunes? as i am going to be using this itunes now not on my pc.

I have a dual 2.5ghz PM G5 that works fine except that the heat exchanger leaked. Everything else is fine. My question is, I found someone on CL who was selling a quad G5 system for $375 because of a damaged mainboard. Could I take the Mobo from the dual G5 and put it in the case for the quad? The processor sockets are same but I'm unsure as to mounting issues.

Every now and then (every few days maybe), my macbook's display profile will switch from my good-looking calibrated profile to one of the really bad looking color profiles (which gives everything a nasty purple tint). This usually happens when the display is woken up, or when I switch from a fullscreen game back to the desktop.
When it does it, I can switch it back by going to system preferences > display > color and clicking the color profile I normally use, but having to do this is getting annoying.

Like when you're in Bootcamp you can click that grey icon and you can select "Restart in Mac OS X", is there such option for OS X too? Or do I always have to manually click Restart and then hold alt and then select Windows?
