OS X V10.7 Lion :: Get PowerPC Support Apps On My Macbook?
Apr 17, 2012
I just switched to Mac OS X Lion yesterday and I feel like I just wasted a ton of money on something that now doesn't support all my school cd's and apps. How can I get software back on my computer to help get rid of the "Can't Open Because this isn't supported... Blah blah blah."

i have some programs from my previously migrated macbook data and new programs that yield the 'cannot support power pcs apps' error.does that mean i cannot use these programs ever? is there a fix, ie installing new stuffit expander to run an .exe file?i really cannot believe apple would reduce so much functionality with the new operating system.

I am insanely annoyed and disappointed with the way Apple shook me with the notification "This app cannot be run since the PowerPC is no longer supported."I was trying to take one of those tests which we run through a CD and a full length test is programmed in a Flash or alike program. How do I do that? This is has made me think of withdrawing from Apple instruments. It makes life harder day by day.Â

I've seen an eMac advertised (the very first gen) and I was wondering whether if I bought it, it would be able to support various bits of hardware I have kicking around. Here is the list:
-160GB Hitachi Deskstar ATA/IDE hard drive, 7K160 I think (I know that only 60gb will be visible)
-6x Tray loding DVD drive. I think its from the first gen iMac
-PC100 168 pin ram (I think its pc100 otherwise it might be pc133)

So, I know that Clamshells do not have large drive support built in, but my question is of another nature. I can get a brand new OEM 160Gb Western Digital drive for about the same price, maybe less, than what I'd pay for an 80Gb through OWC. Naturally, I'd like one, but I wanted to know if there are any caveats to using a larger drive than is supported. I know I can only format and use the first 128Gb, but does the drive being bigger pose problems, with lost data for instance? I need the drive to be reliable as it will be used for school.

Documentation included with copies of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard distributed during Apple's developer conference this week confirm that the next-generation operating system does not presently support Macs with PowerPC processors. LogicielMac.com has published a screen capture of the PDF-based requirements document included on the Snow Leopard disc that provides a rundown of the system's requirements.
The documentation states that in order to install Snow Leopard, developers must have a Mac computer with "an Intel processor" and at least 512MB of RAM, though additional memory is recommended for development purposes. The findings confirm an AppleInsider report from last September, which cited people familiar with the ongoing development of Leopard as saying that Mac OS X 10.6 would in all likelihood exclude support for PowerPC processors. According to the Snow Leopard documentation, the new system will also require an Apple-supplied video card, 9GB of hard disk space, and either an internal, external or shared DVD drive. I have a Power Mac G5 2.3Ghz dual-core system (M9591LL/A) with 2.5GBs of RAM and an Nvidia 6600 PCIe graphics card with 256MBs of RAM.
I tried playing a full-screen HD episode of "The Office" on Hulu.com and it was extremely choppy (like 0.5fps). The sound was fine. It's still quite choppy (~2fps) in a normal browser window (not full-screen)
Is this normal? Does this video card not support it? What is the most powerful card that can be installed in this machine? I'm not opposed to buying a PC card and flashing the ROM if need-be.

I'll be getting my Power Mac G5 from the mail soon, and I was wondering which version of Skype would be compatible with a DC 2.3 GHz Power Mac G5 with 1GB Memory running Tiger? Would Skype v3.x be compatible or would I have to go even further?
Also, which browser works best for G5's?

Just bought a second internal Hard Drive for my Dual 2.5GHz PowerPC G5 machine. Simply for storage, so no system apps are going to run off it. I've researched enough, can't seem to find an answer in writing. Hopefully this is a simple question to answer...
Basically the HDD is a Seagate Baracuda SATA drive. You know how the old IDE drives came with a jumper pin that you can switch from Master to Slave? Well, it appears SATA drives have an option of 1.5GB/s or 3GB/s instead. (News to me! A personal first internal SATA install!) I certainly know what that means, just curious if I want the jumper capping my speed at 1.5GB/s on this specific older Mac model or if I should simply open it up to 3GB/s.
For the time being, I've left it capped at 1.5GB/s. It makes sense that the system BUS would be the definitive capper of HDD throughput...such is why I'm asking if there's any benefit of opening it up, or leaving it capped.

I have a g3 dual usb ibook that has a DVD/CD drive, 640 ram and a firewire port. I just bought a G4 800 mhz tower that has a gig of ram, but it does not have DVD drive (it's a cdrw only). My Ilife install disk is a DVD, is there anyway to use the DVD drive on my ibook to install software onto the G4 tower? Both devices have firewire but if possible I would like to use an ethernet cable connection between the two. I dont have the correct firewire cable(it's expensive).
A second question is i an os 10.3 on my ibook and 10.4 on my G4 tower. Is there a easy way to transfer all my files, settings, ect... from the ibook to the G4 tower? I don have the osx 10.4 install discs either (if that matters).

I have and old iBook 14" G4 that will not boot. I'm trying to transfer files and apps to a MBP. I've pulled the HD and have it connected to my MBP using an external HD adapter. I tried using Migration Assistant to move the data but the only choice I have is to move the profile and not the rest of the data. Does anyone have a suggestion for a workaround?

I've had my MobileMe account since 2003. Had my three Macs since my first G4 and added to them as I could afford.I also have an iPhone 3G. All have access to my MobileMe.
I also have my website on MobileMe. Can I ask, what happens, as I got a warning to switch, as my MobileMe will end soon, if I can't have Lion on my computers? My 11 years of connection to MobileMe will all be lost?Â
I live in Greece and Mac prices are through the roof here. This is a forced upgrade tactic, I feel. Will there be no alternative to online mail for the lesser mortals without Lion?Â
Could I have an answer, and not get deleted again, as, as the email states, time is running out.Â

I am contemplating upgrading my MacBook Pro (2011 model) from Snow Leopard to Lion. I am concerned about the level of strong criticism about Lion, especially the comments that MS Word and Excel (and Powerpoint?) cannot run in Lion. What is the full story? Can I run MS Office products by reloading them into Lion environment?

I have just switched to OS X Lion, in the hope of using iCloud with iWork apps.I have the latest Pages version ('09) and after spending two hours reading forums, I have just understood that:
1/ I cannot save docs to iCloud without buying the iOS app on one of my mobile devices.
2/ I will have to wait for the next Pages release, for iCloud support on OS X.
3/ Using a $2000 Apple laptop only enables to view docs created by iPad or iPhone devices.
I just wanted to save my Pages doc to iCloud, in order to have it ready on my Mac at the office on Monday.I sometimes wonder whether Apple is joking or not.In addition to this, the item "Trying iWork" is grayed, thus no way to try to push that damned doc to iCloud.I cannot believe there is such a poor iCloud support on OS X Lion.
