I received the Snow Leopard upgrade disc, single license for Christmas. I Installed the software, and i noticed my icons were changed for the finder and dashboard. I couldn't use my candy bar anymore since the free trial was done, so i decided to download and try liteicon. I changed the icons back and deleted the application. Now My computer when i try to download the updates for snow leopard upon restart it wont boot past the grey screen with the apple logo and the loading gear. The only way i can restart or turn the computer on after being shut down is by booting on the disc and reinstalling the snow leopard again. What the heck can be wrong here?

View 2 Replies View RelatedOn Leopard 10.5.7, I had to unhide my invisible files for some job using the command:
#defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
#killall Finder
I am trying the reverse commands but the Finder still shows files what are supposed to be hidden.I tried:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles NO
followed by a killall Finder and even reboot.
I would like to avoid a re-install. Who can confirm a working solution as some in this forum suggest that the above reverse commands are no longer effective on Leopard?
I was one of the unlucky ones to get this Trojan bug so decided to erase my disk and reload the system. In doing so, I did a lot of dragging from the backup to the new system not knowing how to restore and I did not want to bring this bug with the restore. So, here are my issues so far I am unable to resolve. Â
Address Book and Calendar are empty and I am unable to find the back up files to re-load them.Â
Also in Safari I am unable to find my bookmarks. Is there a way to find these files or am I out of luck?Â

I just bought a mac and I'm a first time user so I had a few questions regarding the Snow Leopard upgrade and Zagg Invisible Shields.
1. Does the apple retail store install Zagg InvisibleSheilds for MacBook Pro's? If not, does any other store? I tried installing it myself but I ended up frustrated with a crappy looking MBP.
2. I'm trying to upgrade to Snow Leopard through the apple website but after i finish giving the required information, it takes me to the apple store cart, but the problem is that the cart is empty. Am I doing something wrong? I bought my MBP June 23 and I really don't want to buy Snow Leopard if I could just pay the $10 and upgrade it.
my mails dont show anymore in inbox although they still exist as they do show up when I input a search item. They just seem to have disappeared otherwise although I can stil see them all using my iphone or ipad.

View 8 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to completely remove files from my system without moving them to the Trash?  I've read about the Trash, but I'm not clear on EXACTLY how it works. Can I empty A file from the trash or when I click on a file & choose "Emtpy the Trash" does it empty ALL of the files in the Trash or just that one file?  Is there a way to just empty ONLY 1 file from the trash or restore ONLY 1 file from the Trash if so how? ALSO, what are the "rules" for MOVING files rather than COPYing them? I thought files that went from one folder to another on the same drive, were moved & ones that went to different drives were copied. It seems like I've run acrorss instances where that's not how things work.

I have multiple older Time Machine archives from different Macs that I have been going through manually and picking files out and copying them to another drive file by file. I'm running into massive quantities of duplicate files and the biggest problem is muliple iphoto pictures including the same picture in different sizes.Â
I wanted to give up and just throw the whole Time Machine archive onto another disk so I could format the one it was on and use it for something else. But I got a message reading, "The backup can’t be copied because the backup volume doesn’t have ownership enabled." So I went to manually copy each "Macintosh HD" folder for each date into it's their own respective folders. It worked but required my password for each folder and each of the 19 folders were all ~75GB. Which is impossible because all of that data was on a 500GB drive.Â
I copied some image files from a flash drive (jpeg format). When I go to view in folder they appear to not be there. When I try to copy again, msg says something like cannot change invisible file. what can i do to make these image files visible?

I have copied some image files (jpeg format) from a flash drive onto my imac. When I go to view the images they do not appear. When I try to copy them again, there is a message that I cannot modify invisible images. These images were originally downloaded to a windows-based computer and copied to the flash drive. Is there a way to make these image files visible? I am trying to use them for a website.

I moved the files from my external hard drive from the back up files made by Time Machine into the trash, as I've always done. This time I get an error message (error code 8003) and am not allowed to move the files back onto the drive or out of the trash, even after changing the permissions. I've searched the support forum for error code 8003, but find nothing that relates to back up files.

I need to find the Library Folder in my User's folder, since that is where my Quicken 2015 data is stored. When I use the Open command in Quicken I get the following path to the Quicken 2015 Data File:Â
    User > My User's Folder > Library > Application Support > Quicken 2015 > Data FilesÂ
When I try to access that through my Macintosh HD there is no Library Folder in my User's Folder. I am guessing it is invisible, how do I find it? I am running OSX Yosemite 10.10.1.
Since I have switched from windows I have many duplicate files and even triplicate files! I was told (from a Mac Genius ) that leopard won't let you look at your picture files. So I want to rid the excess and save some hard drive space.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am working on clearing off some hard drive space, and my first step was to remove some unneeded items from an external HD to make some space there. When I drag the folder I'm trying to delete to the trash, I first get a message that the items will be immediately deleted (I think because my internal HD is quite full?) and that's fine because I do want to delete these, so I say OK. It starts the process of deleting, and counting how many files it's deleting, then gives me a message that the operation cannot be completed because item "xx" is locked. The only solutions I have found on here involve unlocking "xx" but my problem is, when I search the computer and/or the external for item "xx" nothing is found. I'm really not sure if the issue with item "xx" is an issue with the drive or with the computer, or what to do about it?? If it's the drive, I suppose I could back up what I do want to save from the drive then re-format it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSomehow, when installing RealPlayer I managed to get something called RealNetwork (a Folder full of files) installed in my User Library. It was 395.62 GB so must have been some sort of malware. I was able to find it and delete it from my hard drive. BUT I had backed up my hard drive to a non-bootable backup the day before so that file is still in the invisible Library folder on that drive, taking up almost 400 GB there, too. Â
How to delete it from the backup drive since I can't boot that drive?Â

View 7 Replies View RelatedThe free space on my MacBook is disappearing fast but I don't know why. I am hoping someone can tell me where to start solving this problem. It must be invisible files but what can I do about it? This started after I restored from a Time Machine backup to a new hard disk after the hard disk failed (another story). The Time Machine backup was about a week old (isn't it always the case?) so I don't think it is likely that I could have restored anything that might have had anything to do with the hard disk failure. Everything seemed to be working fine, having spent hours resorting emails and trying to reconstruct files I had lost from the week I didn't back up. During that week I had bought an iPhone. When I connected it to the restored computer it deleted all the apps I had installed. Not a big problem, as I was able to track them down from an iTunes receipt and reinstall them. I then attached my iPod and the computer had to replace all the files with new ones. As there were a lot of songs and photos I left it to do this and went to bed. Next day the iPod now had newly replaced files and seems fine. But there is a warning that the startup disk is full. No new files had been put on the computer, which had about 9.5 Gb free space. I deleted some files so I could do some things with the computer to find out what was happening. The space thus freed soon disappeared. I then deleted Parallels Desktop so that I could free up more space. I now had 29.67 Gb free space. I tried searching for large files but nothing suspicious seems to detectable. By the end of the day the free space had gone down to 24.39 Gb. It now stands at 23.22.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo my new car has a usb connection to play music from (which is awesome!!). However, when I plug my usb into the car's usb connection and try to play music, it works, but every other track is "unavailable". However , there is no "track" there..i.e. if my music folder copied from mac os x 10.5 has 12 songs, the car reads 24 files and file 1 will play song 1, file 2 will be unavailable, file 3 will play song 2 from music folder. My assumption is that Mac OSX is adding in some kind of invisible file or something, but I'm not sure what's going on.

I have an Intel iMac with OS X 10.5.8. Have been running with Hard Disks and External Disks "Show on Desktop" as unchecked and "Show hidden files and folders" unchecked, and in Windows, renamed the Windows HD Disk" to ".Windows HD Disk". All has worked fine for over a year. All of a sudden, the .Windows HD Disk is on the desktop, as well as the .DS_Store folder. The other hard disks do not display. Despite checking and unchecking the various boxes, and running Onyx, can't make the two icons go away.
