OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: PDF's Won't Open In Browsers Anymore
May 4, 2012
I had some updates for my Macbook Pro (snow leopard- up to date) and for some reason now I can't open pdfs on the web on either safari or firefox. If I download them it works, but I can't view them on the acutal browser anymore. When I open a website that is the link to the pdf it just pulls up a black page- that's it, you refresh it refreshes the same thing. I reinstalled Adobe reader (I use Preview though) and still nothing. I don't kow *** is going on.
When logging out of user accounts, my browsers are not quitting properly (I'm getting the spinning beachball) and I have to force quit them to complete logging out of the accounts. It happens whether I'm using Safari 5.1.7 or Firefox 13.01. I haven't noticed it happening with any other open apps. It doesn't happen every time either.
Info:iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Safari 5.1.7, Firefox 13.01
I just noticed that playing YouTube Video in Safari or Google Chrome the CPU usage is not less than 70-75 % on both cores ( MacBook 2.4ghz unibody with SL 10A432 32bit kernel ).
On Firefox the CPU usage on the same YouTube video is no more than 40-45% on both cores.
Anyone else notice this ?
I guess it may happen because flash plugin is 32 bit and used in some sort of sandbox in Safari now because Safari is 64bit and flash plugin is 32 bit ( in Chrome everything run in sanbox and I got the same CPU usage on Leopard ).
Firefox is 32 bit application as Flash is and I'm guessing thats why it uses less CPU.
My dashboard widgets froze -- open on screen. I had to close each widget. Now I now longer have one-click pop up of my selected widgets.I get a beep when I click the dashboard icon. I have to click the plus sign and open individual widgets.
In leopard you can pick one PDF with 12pages for example, open another with only one page, drag and drop this page to the first PDF, click CMD+S and voila! the first PDF is now 13 pages.
Now, if I try this on Snow Leopard it doesn't allow me to click Save or Save as.
I was running 10.5.8 on my Mac Pro, and I had file letters mapped in Vista to all of my Mac Pro's drives. Post-upgrade, I can no longer connect to any of the drives -- I can see the Mac Pro in my Network window in Windows, but double-clicking on the Mac Pro results in a password prompt in which no password is accepted. Obviously something has changed on the Mac. I've gone through the Network dialog boxes in 10.6, but can't find any culprit.
i have a problem with my Snow Leopard installation. Since I've installed Snow Leopard, my external USB HD won't work anymore. It's a ICY BOX case with USB 2 and Firewire 400 interface. The mac is a mid 2009 mac mini (9400m).
P.S.: It doesn't show up in the disc utility
PP.S.: I tried two different hard drives in the enclosure, but all worked fine before Snow Leopard!
For some reason I can not launch Dash board anymore. I have used Finder and it is not there. What can I co besides take computer into service? Info: iMac (24-inch Early 2009), Mac OS X (10.6.8), I do have Parallels
[URL] I can access via server admin but cannot log into the server from the login window at the server itself with the exact same admin credentials that I used through server admin.Â
I launched Mail as I ordinarily do. It opened up, but the header bar was grayed out. Finally I managed to open program via Message/Go To/ Inbox, but no messages appeared in any of my mailboxes (even though I had several still in there from today). Nothing is happening, I even can't quit teh mail program.
This one has me banging my head! I am not able to open certain web sites from Safari, Fire Fox or G Chrome. But I can if I do it within Parallels...Can someone help with this? I have done a search on this forum, but have come up empty.I rely need to do some work using the web site that I cannot open.
Good day everyone. A few months ago I asked for help regarding my browsers constant crashing. The problems still exist. I am taking some online courses since I lost my job a few months ago, but it has become impossible to complete these courses because my browsers keep crashing. I tried Safari, Opera, Firefox, and even Netscape, but they all keep crashing. I took advice from one of the people who responded. That person suggested that I created a New Account with Safari alone as my browser, but Safari also crashed with that new account. What else can I do? I paid for these online courses but I cannot keep my browsers open long enough to even finish the first session.
I have noticed in the past few times I have had a tap or two opened with something flash on them (youtube, vuze, etc..) and both safari and firefox crashing.
All of a sudden, I can no longer open pdfs in my browers (Safari and Firefox). I can dowload them to my computer and then open them, but I would like to be able to view them online.
Some time ago my Safari and Firefox sites stopped opening PDF's in 10.6.8. I went to a genius who said there were no viruses, but he couldn't figure out what to do. Today, I upgraded to 10.7.4; but I still have the same problem on my MAcBook Air.  I would hate to have to erase my drive and reinstallnOS 10.6 and 10.7 and all other programs
Info: MacBook Air (11-inch Late 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
Not sure if this is a Hotmail thing or a browser thing, but if someone attaches a jpeg to an email I recieve in Hotmail, when I click it in Firefox I get a dialogue box asking: What should Firefox do with this file? Open With [choose...] or Save file?In Safari, it just automatically downloads the picture to the default download location and then auto opens it with Preview. This is so annoying! How do I set my browsers to just open jpegs within the browser?
I think since I updated my mac OS X lion 10.7.2 to 10.7.3. I cannot open YouTube no matter the browser I use it's always the same, so I checked my flash player version and I have the latest one so I don't think the flash player is the problem, I don't know what to do.
I downloaded the latest Safari version and when I try to install it on Snow Leopard, I get a message saying that I must have OSx 10.5.8 or later. I'm confused because I have 10.6 installed.
I am using a 2wire modem/router. I was told by a tech at ATT that I can only click a button that allows ALL ports open, but not just port 80. Does anyone know if there is a way to open port 80 ONLY? I'm next to done setting up a security CCTV system for my home, and this would allow me to use my computer to look at whats going on, rather than buying a new monitor.

I can't open zip files. Archive utility flashes and disappears. Archive utility does not seem to be in the utility folder. Tried repairing permissions and verifying disk.
I'm trying to acess a .sol file of mine, but a pop up keeps on appearing- "Apple Script Editor cannot open files in the Apple Script Editor Document format." I just want to know- is there someway I can open said file, or something I can download to allow me to open the file?
Whenever I try to run the terminal, I get this error message. You are not authorized to run this application. The administrator has set your shell to an illegal value. Just in case you're wondering, yes, I am logged in as the administrator. I have been having some issues with priveleges ever since I reinstalled my OS and loaded my info from a Time Machine Backup, so this might be related, but I still have no idea how to fix it.
Suddenly my iMac won't open most .PDF files - specifically those that are imbedded in the body of emails or may be identified by a hotlink on websites. But if one is simply attached to an email, that seems to open? The only thing I think I've done since everything worked properly was to agree to install Adobe Reader 10.1.3 and Adobe Flash Player. rectify whatever error I'm experiencing so that I can open .PDF files once again?Â
Lately I have been unable to open PDFs from the internet. When I click it sends me to a blank internet tab. Sometimes I am able to control click and have the option to save the file in my downloads, then have to go back into finder to open the file. This is also the case when opening PDFs from emails. However there are some files on the internet that will not allow me that option. I have tried this in firefox, safari, and chrome. All are the same.Everything worked just fine until about 3 days ago.
