Suddenly my iMac won't open most .PDF files - specifically those that are imbedded in the body of emails or may be identified by a hotlink on websites. But if one is simply attached to an email, that seems to open? The only thing I think I've done since everything worked properly was to agree to install Adobe Reader 10.1.3 and Adobe Flash Player. rectify whatever error I'm experiencing so that I can open .PDF files once again?Â

I can't view pdf files from my iMac anymore. I tried it with 3 different browsers-Safari, Frefox, and Camino and it made no difference except that with Safari I got a black webpage and with the others just a blank page. I uninstalled Adobe Reader and reinstalled it it but that didn't help. I've enable cookies on all the browsers.

Lately I have been unable to open PDFs from the internet. When I click it sends me to a blank internet tab. Sometimes I am able to control click and have the option to save the file in my downloads, then have to go back into finder to open the file. This is also the case when opening PDFs from emails. However there are some files on the internet that will not allow me that option. I have tried this in firefox, safari, and chrome. All are the same.Everything worked just fine until about 3 days ago.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded the file ClassicsOnLine.app It was sent to me individually by the firm ClassicOnLine via YouSendIt. The app will open, but will not open one of its own files. When instead I ask that file to open with the app, the app freezes and has to be force quitted. All old versions have been trashed, and there are no traces of any old files that I can find on the computer. It reminds me of the old extension conflicts. I have used Safari and Firefox separately and get the same result from both.

I transferred my old files to my new iMac and now I cannot open them. They have a red circle on them and a message that says they are now unsupported. How do I translate these files on my new iMac?

I had some updates for my Macbook Pro (snow leopard- up to date) and for some reason now I can't open pdfs on the web on either safari or firefox. If I download them it works, but I can't view them on the acutal browser anymore. When I open a website that is the link to the pdf it just pulls up a black page- that's it, you refresh it refreshes the same thing. I reinstalled Adobe reader (I use Preview though) and still nothing. I don't kow *** is going on.

I downloaded Lion last night only to discover I can't open my word documents anymore. My original office software for Mac is packed away somewhere (haven't had to use those install disks for a few years and probably won't work with Lion anyway?).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had no problems with leopard, but since I installed snow leopard (and also afterwards mavericks) I can´t open most files I download from my firefox gmail or hotmail. I want to open a word or pages file with pages and it is the standard program for opening the file but everytime I get the message that I cannot open it.Â

When I open a pdf, a dialog box opens up with the following message: "The file "File Name" could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize." I tried it with Adobe Reader and I got the same message. I am running 10.10.1 on a 2013 Macbook Pro.

my excel files change to XLS and can't be opened by the recipient when I email them, I have to send it to my pc at work, open it as excel from the list of applications, save it as an excel file and email it from work which is highly frustrating. I've heard it might be something to do with the recent purchase of Snow Leopard?

I cannot seem to open MPEG-2 files taken on a SONY handycam. Error claims codes is missing. Lion is supposed to support MPEG-2. Tried to follow links and bought teh reccomended MPEG-2 for iMac but that will not install. Error says software is intended for earlier software versions

We had a mac which was on Leopard and saved files to the serverÂ
The file system we use is a Windows 2008 File Server, this has worked fine with leopard for years
However I understand that Leopard splits the files into resource forks - and that Lion has dropped support for these files. That particular mac is now on Lion as we upgraded and encountering LOTS of issuesÂ
I unable to open or edit lots of the files as i believe chunks of the files are missing. E.g an .eps file showed as 740KB on leopard - Viewing from a windows PC it was 730kb for the .eps and 10kb for the ._ resource fork.Â
Now that we are on the LION upgrade, we only see the .eps file and it is only 730kb. Information missing is things such as preview (quark), Font data, type of file, version number. we have hundreds! of images, files etc created with leopard and now upgraded to lion they all have become useless!
Rejoining the resource forks and files together so that they are usable on lion
