my problem is that on a restart of one of my 10.6.8 Servers parts of the Serveradmin configs are gone while some of them persists. The lost configs are everytime the same: VPN (complete) and iChat (a secondary but very important Host-Domain). Of course a can restore them from a backup but that shouldn't the standard procedure after a restart....Â
View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to using Server admin on a remote Mac to manage our xserve. Both are running 10.6.8 and I've installed the Server Admin tools onto the mac. Both the Workgroup manager and Server Monitor work OK on the mac, but whenever I try and connect the Server Admin it always comes up with the error : "The login information is incomplete for this server or is not valid. The server failed to accept the login information you provided for <servername>. Check the name and password and try to log on again" I can't connect using the server name, FQDN, or IP address. The macs are all using OD and AD and I've tried both AD and local OD accounts (all administrative) but to no avail. DNS is working OK and I can resolve the server-name with dig and dig -x. I can screen share the server so connectivity isn't the problem.Â
View 8 Replies View RelatedI started having problems a couple of weeks ago with logging into my main account, I have 10.6.8, when I login to my main account it will either just be blue or maybe show the background image then will return to the login screen, I could access my guest account fine, so I created a new admin account and used console to grab the log when I tried to log into my original account.Â

With any Unix machine, one can run at the command line:- apachectl -S This will show all virtual servers configured in Apache, and will break if there are any obvious problems in the httpd .conf files. It's very handy for testing a new configuration before restarting the server. With Mac OS X Server though, this doesn't work properly. Sure, I can run that command and see a virtual server or two, but with the introduction of the server Apache wrappers, the command line tools read a very different configuration than the `serveradmin` tool does.
e.g. Wrappers like:-<IfDefine MACOSXSERVER>

or <IfDefine WEBSERVICE_ON>

ps. Running `sudo serveradmin stop web && sudo serveradmin start web` really compared to `apachectl graceful`; it's painfully slow and doesn't provide a way to test a custom configuration before attempting to restart.

How can i push login script on all macs without adding it in login items? The script i want to store on smb or afp share disk, and will be edited from time to time. I've tried to add it on xserve from WGM, but it threw an error that current directory schema doesn't store desktop settings.So how can i solve this?

After Logoff it's allowing me to log in to admin account with all data access . Problem is repeated after restarting Macbook pro -saying password to admin is incorrect. I had a goodworking SUS (10.6.8) working but the drive is getting full so i change the location of the files to another disk (in the xserve)and follow instructions from Apple (page 84 from the manual System Imaging) sudo cp -p /private/var/db/swupd/html /Volumes/My_Volume/My_Software_Updates_Folder/This works and i copy the files to a new drive. I also change the SUS so that theu host files for Lion clients url..works also, start SUS in Server Admin but when clients wants to connect i get an error that there is no SUS available and when i use the browser for an check i get een Forbidden error url...ForbiddenYou don't have permission to access /index.sucatalog on this server.Apache/2.2.21 (Unix) Server at 127.0.0.1 Port 80.

Have everything set up properly as per Apple's documentation, but all clients error out on software updates (saying they can't find the index. sucatalog file). When you view this file, which is an alias, within the HTML folder that is created when you enable the Software Update service in Server Admin, the alias doesn't link to an original.I've tried this on two separate 10.6.8 Server installations and I get the same error on both machines.Where is the alias "index.sucatalog" supposed to point to?Software Update Error Log in Server Admin says "Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible" and points to the alias file.

I just configured my Snow Leopard Server to distribute Lion update's [URL]I also see that the sync is competed with all latets Lion update's and all are enabled. I've adjust all the settings on the clients:sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL [URL]The problem is that all my 10.6 and 10.7 clients doesnt see any availble update's and running the Software Update on the cllient i get the message "The software is up-to-date" I checked all the configs.....reset the complete SUS server and started all over but still the same issue!

I have been trying for weeks to do a software update from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8. Whenever I install the update and restart my computer, I get the apple logo loading screen and then it locks up on the infamous blank gray screen. I have been able to get back to 10.6 with the install CD, and can then update all the way to 10.6.7 I have tried everything listed here:[URL]To no avail . including a clean install When I start up in verbose mode the last line of text I get is the following, after this it's the gray screen:

My iMac takes 3 minutes after logging in, until it allows any inputs. Stays stuck on the desktop, none of the hot corners work, nor does the dock allow inputs for about 3 minutes. I checked the Console immediately after it allows me to, and theres a bunch of stuff on the IOkit that seems to be the culprit.

Users that have connected previously are experiencing no difficulty. A quick overview of the layout of the system: two XServes, one is OD primary (aspen) the other is OD replica and iChat server (vail). I've modded some config files (long ago) to allow user IDs for jabber to be user@ourcompany.office instead of user@vail.ourcompany.office. It works quite nicely.Â
Excerpt from the logs shows a failed login attempt followed by a successful login attempt. Successful logins are happening from Messages (beta), iChat under Snow Leopard, and Pidgin under windows. Failing logins are all from iChat under Snow Leopard. I just ran a software update on my Apple Server that runs on 10.6.8 and got the software update quit unexpectedly.
I removed the apple.softwareupdate.plist under library preferences and empty the trash also. I ran the repair permission and it seems to repaired some permissions. I ran the check disk and the disk is OK. I reboot the server and got the same problem when I run the Software Update.

Our company has a SL server with Software Update service running. We have all SL Mac's except for one brand new iMac with Lion.Of course, the new iMac cannot get software updates from our server unless I make some changes on the server to accept Lion updates.Â
I'd rather not do that, as with only one Lion-equipped Mac, I don't want to take up the extra space for all the Lion-related updates. So, the question is, how can I reconfigure this one iMac to look to Apple's servers instead of our local server? I've looked and looked in the workgroup manager for where that assignment is, but this computer is not part of any group (user or computer) that might be inheriting the setting.Â
Is there a manual way to reconfigure the iMac to look to Apple's servers? Â
We are running Mac OS 10.4 in a student lab. Leopard asks for an administrator password to unpause a printer, and our students do not have the admin password for obvious reasons, but a certain printer keeps doing this. Is there anything that can be done to stop having to authenticate for this kind of event?

Today when we started trying to add users to our server (we use it only for afp access at this time), we noticed that new users belonging to a group "storage" were unable to login from client machines via afp (clients both 10.7.2 and 10.6.8). Â
When we tried editing the users accounts to change which groups they belonged to, it would appear in workgroup (and server preferences) that the changes would take but there was still no access.Â
As a test case, we modified an existing user who had no issues logging in to belong to a diffenent group and have different sharepoint access. The changes looked good in workgroup and server prefs, but when the user logged in, he was only able to acces his old sharepoint and not the new one (and since his permissions to the old were removed, he shouldn't have access to that sharepoint).Â
Also, for some reason users cannot be deleted within workgroup manager any more. The login used was the diradmin account.

I have a Mini Server, 10.7.3. 8GB, SSD 256, use it for FCPX mostly. Just moved all datafiles to external disks and re-installed Lion, but now I cannot access my user account. When I started up the system after it had installed, it asked me for company name and email address, but then I cannot access my user account any more.
Do I need to re-install the system again, or how can I solve this? I don't remember what email address I used originally when I got the server and registered it, whether it was my personal or the business address, which I gave this time. Â
I do remember the login name and password that I have always used, but these don't work anymore and I have too many jobs pending this week.

I am not the admin of the computer, but the admin gave me admin rights for a temporary time being, so when I went to login to my user it asked the question if i wanted to make some change or whatever, well appaerantly I clicked the wrong choice and i had the "Remember this choice" box clicked. So is there anyway to go back to change this?I have tried restarting and completely shutting down the comp, and taking admin rights off and putting them back on.

Have just updated to 10.7.4 When trying to login using the "Other User" the button stays red and says Network accounts unavailable. I can ping domain server by name and IP.Permissions have been rebuilt.
Have rebound. Had a problem at first unbinding inside the Open Directory Utility as it said it could not connect with the domain and an unused account would be left if a forced unbind was done. Tried again by using the minus button instead of the Unbind button and it worked without any message.
So then binded to the domain and all looked good. Green button next to Network Account Server in the Users and Groups.

The only problem is I need to be running 10.4 or later. View 1 Replies View RelatedCan I "push"/ "force" Safari to open at login, to a specific page? Is this possible? I have been asked to get all client macs to open to the enterprise Intranet site at login so that news/service updates are put in front of the clients automatically...In WGM I can configure for users or Machines to open Safari at login, and it does this, but does not open the specified Homepage until they Command-n or click for New Window.Likewise if I sit at the client machine and configure Safari to run at login, again the application does activate, but needs client to call up a new page before Homepage shows.Â
