OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Comparing Music And Picture Files?
Apr 6, 2012
I have pictures and music literally buried in multiple old incremental backups on a Seagate external drive. These backups were from an old MacBook utilizing an unknown software. That backup was not used to restore to the new MacBook Pro, rather a more recent Time Capsule/Time Machine backup was utilized. I want to get selected old files (pictures and music) out of that Seagate and onto my new MacBook Pro. I'm presently utilizing Time Machine as the backup on a 2nd new external backup drive. Unfortunately, there were only a couple full backups done years ago on that old Mac and then countless incrementals were piled on top. I know that some of the data has made it to the new Mac by other means but it seems I need to do a file compare somehow to insure completeness. How do I get to these files since all of those incrementals has made it a chaotic mess? How do I compare and merge? First time posting.
Info:
MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I have a strange thing on my MAC, all my JPG picture on my the HDD destroy the pixel one by one, from the bottom left in horizontal lines (it happen only with the old pictures archives). I take one month to destroy 1cm of the jpg picture !!At the edge ther is a mix random colors. And where it is destroy it's al grey.It started 5 year ago with my first Mac OS X, then i copy all my files to a new Mac and the "virus" or problem came with it !!! A year ago i got my third computer, coppied all my files and there the "virus" didn't work, but i remain with the old pictures, eaten half by a unknow thing.
I can not see my desktop background picture, I can only see a blank grey screen. I check the system preferences and it says that I have chosen a desktop picture from my pictures file but it is not showing up.
I have some screenshots which I would like to paste directly into an outgoing mail message. I am NOT talking about adding it as an attachment, and am NOT talking about simply adding an icon within the message which the recipient must then click on in order to open up and see the screenshot. What I am talking about is PASTING the screenshot/picture directly into the body of the mail so that the recipient can see it right away the same way it can be done in Outlook. I have seen up to this point completely misses the mark by explaining how to add an icon (which needs to be clicked to be seen) within the mail rather than answering how the image can be shown in the message itself.
Recently i bought and instal external hard drive for the pictures, movies and music, configured time capsule to back up this data, and I did it to speed up my Imac (the hdd was full, so I erase all content from it). Throug the time machine I can reache movies but I cant viwe particular picture in iphoto library and restore it. Imac have os x snow leopard and iphoto 11?
When I go to "desktop & screen saver" in System Prefs, I have a mystery picture I cannot get rid of and it has been passed from Mac to Mac, OS to OS. It says it's on my desktop with the other pics that I see on my desktop that are actually there. I click on the picture to get its name or location and I get this ".UserImagesWelcomeSecondaryIm". So I try to find this location...nothing. I try to spotlight this exact phrase, NOTHING. This picture has gotten unbelievably annoying because I can't locate the physical file to delete it. I believe it may have been an image that was dragged off a browser onto the desktop.
I finally ripped my music into digital format. It is a very large library so I performed the rips in four segments creating four folders of music. The highest level folders are Music1, Music2, Music3, Music4. The next layer folder is the artists name, then album name, then the actual MP3S.
How do I merge the folders? If I perform a copy the first artist name is sees that already is exists, the finder wants me to skip the copy or replace the folder that is there. I simply want to add the folder or merge it. Is there a "merge" function in OSX? I tried Carbon Copy but it will not copy or sync fils on the same disk.
I have a Mac Air with Snow Leopard and a Winows 7 PC. I want to mirror my Itunes on both so that I can sync my Iphone with either. I backed up my Itunes Folder on a Free Agent (External Hard Drive). My Free Agent is detected on Mac Air but is not detected on Windows 7 PC.
I would like to have all of my music and pictures available to me on my 64 GB iPad but I can no longer keep these growing libraries of music and pictures on the hard drive of my MacBook Air because I've run out of space. External HardDrives are an option, but will it allow me to sync and keep the current data on my iPad along with future music and pictures? Are there any other alternatives that are much more ideal for this situation?
On Sunday I popped a DVD into my 1.5 12" Powerbook (756 ram, 100gb hd) and then picture got incredibly screwed up. I guess the best way to describe it is there were a mess of colors and lines everywhere. Trying to move windows around left a window trail on the screen.
First thing after this happened was that I got all the data off, then I popped in the original Panther disc and wanted to do a fresh install, it installed alright from the disc (albeit with issues on the screen), but when it started again, there was a blue screen while the music was playing (the music that comes on when you first get your mac).
Anyone have any suggestions on what to do? From some forum searching it seems to be a video card issue. I'm hoping to salvage it some how, but if not, it'll probably sell as parts. It's been so good for four years now, I was surprised it conked out so suddenly.
I have transferred my itunes music on to my external HD. The music is there and that is fine. I then deleted the old itunes folder from my actual HD. I have now wanted to access the music on the external HD, and have attempted to select the new music file location on the external HD via the itunes/preferences/advanced window, selected the new file path and it will just not show in itunes!
I am running Snow Leopard on both an iMac and a MacBook Pro. On the MBP I can play an AVI file. On the iMac, I cannot. I get an error saying "The document could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands."
I can't open zip files. Archive utility flashes and disappears. Archive utility does not seem to be in the utility folder. Tried repairing permissions and verifying disk.
I have read the 3 or 4 discussions on flashing the 4890. I just ordered one and plan on doing a clean install of snow leopard and installing the card at the end of the week. However, some of the links from rapid share don't appear to be working. Can some one point me to where these files have moved and are there an snow leopard specific files?
So i'm getting my first Mac tomorrow, and i'm going to switch from using iTunes on Windows to using it on os x. will I be able to copy my library off of my ntfs formatted external hdd to mac os x.
I received the Snow Leopard upgrade disc, single license for Christmas. I Installed the software, and i noticed my icons were changed for the finder and dashboard. I couldn't use my candy bar anymore since the free trial was done, so i decided to download and try liteicon. I changed the icons back and deleted the application. Now My computer when i try to download the updates for snow leopard upon restart it wont boot past the grey screen with the apple logo and the loading gear. The only way i can restart or turn the computer on after being shut down is by booting on the disc and reinstalling the snow leopard again. What the heck can be wrong here?
