something i noticed leopard does now, probably in the .2 update.
As cool as it is, I don't like not having the option to turn this on/off.
I know there are workarounds, but I love the ability to hit command shift 4, then space, then click a window without having to drag a crosshair.
As the title suggests, I would like to remove the drop shadow plaguing the icon text on a white background.
This could easily be done with Windows but I'm struggling to find the OSX equivalent.
Coloured labels don't cut it as they don't apply to folder descriptions and don't come in white.
I have funny problem, well more of an annoyance than a problem. On my MBP, after maybe a day or two without rebooting (ie. just closing the lid), the mouse cursor drop shadow disappears and the cursor gets jaggy/aliased edges (imagine the cursor from Windows XP, but black). A reboot will bring it back.
The MacBook Pro is a stock late 2009 17" - 2.8Ghz, 4GB etc. with Mac OS X 10.6.3 (this annoyance has happened since 10.6.1). I have the graphics mode set to performance as 90% of the time I use the machine, I'm plugged in.
I've tried to see if there's a pattern to it, but it's seemingly random. Sometimes it's the same day as a reboot, sometimes I go a whole week without rebooting and still have the proper cursor. It's pretty weird. I originally thought it may have related to opening the lid while on battery power, however it's happened a couple of times when I've opened the lid while plugged.
Edit: Another interesting point.... if I plug an external display in, the cursor gets back its shadow, but then when I unplug the screen, it will return to the jaggy look (until a reboot).
I came across some strange Grab behavior today while trying to capture a maximized window using the shortcut key for a window grab.
While having the window I wanted to grab active, I pressed Cmd + Shift + 4 to get the box selection grab, then pressed Space to get the Window capture tool. I clicked the active window and this is what came out:
As you can see, the right side of the window is missing..
Can someone reproduce this? Or is it just on my end?
What the problem could be? When I screen grab a full screen window by typing Code: Command > Shift > 4 > Space, the resulting screenshot has the right hand edge cut off. Seems to happen in all apps.

I have figured everything out except how to modify the "Category" column where a drop-down menu is given for several recurring items (Home/Gas/Food/etc.) that are to be entered in that column. I would like to find how to create such a column or to be able to modify the one provided in the template. The TRANSACTIONS table is linked to the ACCOUNT CATEGORIES table which is linked to the CHART. That is intact and working as it should, but I have been unable to alter the column CATEGORY so that the drop down items will be ones that I want to use. Having the drop-down menu insures proper itemization in the linked ACCOUNT CATEGORIES table where typos are avoided as a result. The PDF manual was of little help (to me anyway) in addressing this seemingly simple alteration.

Is the average computer user able to open these without problems? Is it the sort of thing an XP user could just double click on and open without problems. Now with beta 4, it adds a .JPEG extension, even after the original .JPG extension of the original images. So if I drag "mactv.jpg" out of the browser to the desktop, I get "mactv.jpg.jpeg" on my freakin' desktop.

Is it normal for a blue shadow to appear on the bottom of the screen whenever the background is black? I noticed it when I watch videos or the background is black by that spot. I have had this problem for a long as I have had Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The problem is that drag & drop works intermittently for applications such as the Finder, iTunes, Fetch, etc.
My workaround for the Finder was to switch from list view to column view, but for programs like Fetch or iTunes, I cannot do that. Sometimes the solution is to relaunch the application, but this is not guaranteed.
I am running every latest update available (as of Nov. 18, 2008) for my system and software. I am currently on Mac OS X 10.5.5. The problem also affects more than one computer. These are the computers I've experienced it on:

It is as simmple as the title. I can not drag and drop icons or text or folders. Nothing. As for cut, copy, and paste they do not work either. I am trying to back up my files so I can do a clean install of snow leopard. I have leopard currently.

I can't copy and paste, drag and drop, or use spotlight on my macbook purchased in 2007 running mac os x 10.5.8.Â
I noticed the problem when using serato scratch live initially because it wouldn't let me drag and drop the songs in to cue. I was able to use the key board short cuts and moved on. I then tried to clear some items from my desk top to the trash can and was unable to drag them. I was able to open the desk top in the finder and use the file, move to trash option. The problem became unbearable when I was reorganizing a word document and could not cut and paste within the document. The commands did not work from edit either. I have found that I am able to cut but not paste in the mean time.Â
A user kindly pointed me to a link using the terminal to see if I had a tmp folder. I did but the date was from October of 2007 which is around when I bought the machine. I have run repair permissions from disk utitilty as suggested in yet another forum to no avail...hence reposting with my specific symptoms? Short of reinstalling mac os x, what are my options DOC?

A colleague of mine has a Mac G5 with OS 10.5.8 and Adobe InDesign CS5 installed which has suddenly stopped working. On top of that she can't drag or drop items either. She didn't have this issue yesterday. She didn't install anything new or added any new hardware.

The thing is, that the machine is turned off on the images.
Before shooting the attached images I had just cleaned the screen using a damp cloth and afterwards wiped it with a dry microfiber cloth. Just to make sure it wasn't dust or fingermarks.
I also tried to see if it was just shadows from lamps in the room, but it wasnt.
The areas shown on the images only appears when turned off. Now when sitting in front af the machine they are not visible.
what it is, how to remove them, or know if this is a consideren an error worthy of a return.
Normally consider myself quite able to troubleshoot my own problems, but I can't for the life of me figure out what to do here, and can't seem to find many others who have the same problem. The drag-and-drop function in Snow Leopard appears to be either broken or deliberately crippled. My work sees me having to move a lot of files from folder to folder, and I've discovered that, as of fairly recently, I can no longer drag-and-drop more than 85 objects from one folder to another. Up to 85, everything works just fine -- but if I select 86, upon dragging I get an "X-ed out" icon, like the "no smoking" or "no parking" circle with a line through it.
I'm not quite sure what to do about this, but would be very curious and appreciative if anyone else has the same issue, or has figured out how to solve it! This, combined with the lack of a "cut" feature in OS X has begun to really impede my workflow.

I'm trying to fill out a downloaded application which is in pdf format. I can type text onto the form in Preview, however, the text types as though it's right justified. That is: when I type the text, the text appears to the left of the cursor. To clarify, the cursor stays in the same place and the text moves to the left, for example, when I place the cursor to the right of "Name", the text I type in appears to the left of the cursor on top of the word "Name". For fields such as Name and Date, I suppose I can just put the cursor far to the right and type my text, but this is an application that includes an essay portion. Typing a paragraph with all of the text going to the left of the cursor isn't going to work very well. Is there a way to change the way the text is added, so that it's added in a more normal way, like the way I'm typing this question, where the letters appear where the cursor is and the cursor moves to the right as you add more text? Â
I have also tried doing this in Text Edit and Pages (I converted the pdf in Text Edit to rtf), but I wasn't able to fill out the document as needed. In addition, importing the document to Pages and Text Edit, for some reason, only imported the first page of the document). I am using OS 10.6.8
I want to add a single or dual 100/1000 ethernet card to my macpro 2008 Leopard for virtualisation using VM Fusion. The Apple Dual card retails for 147 here in the UK which seems rather expensive. Do you guys know of other cards that are known to work OK with Leopard 10.5.6?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I add my new Iomega Helium USB HD to my Macbook Pro running 10.6.8, the screen and keyboard all freeze. There laptop has to be rebooted. It does this when I do it standalone and when I use external screen, keyboard and hub. It is a problem with my setup because the drive works fine will all of the other Windows and Mac machines I have.
The cause was the installation of the Iomega software (why did I ever trust Iomega software?) as I only installed it on my macbook pro.Can I run some diagnostics/debug to trace the insertion of the USB device to see where it is going wrong? I have manually uninstalled the software but I am convinced I have missed something.I have a complete clone backup from before the installation but don't want to lose other changes (like email etc) since that day, although I am happy to restore specific files.
I have a macbook Pro from 2009. I believe it originally came with snow leopard as the software. I upgraded to Mavericks. I created a second partition and have the snow leopard software on a cd to install on the partition. Â
When I try to open the install, it says "You have install mac OS X 23.1.1."Â
How can I get around this? I need to download snow leopard to run a version of final cut studio.
