OS X :: Best Way To Take Screenshots Of Particular Areas?
Dec 30, 2010
I'm around 2-3 days away from my MacBook Pro arriving, and I was just wondering what is the best way to take screenshots on a Mac? I need something that can be made to take a screenshot of a particular window (automatically scale to the size of the window).
I have a graphics problem with my first generation iMac Core Duo 17 inch. It seems that in numerous areas throughout the OS, particularly in graphics intensive areas. It's irritating when I go to work on a Final Cut Pro, or when I want to fold, i see nothing but garbled parts of my screen!
how do I merge two partitions into one; all areas are greyed out on iMac (late 2013 model i7 3 TB 8 gb RAM).Created a second partition on iMac (Mavericks). After a few days I decided to delete that newly created partition and have been trying to merge it to create only ONE partition as it was in the original setup. However, disc utility shows everything greyed out and there is NO option to change anything. I have erased everything on that partition and thought "that should do it" -
Info: iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3), i7, 3 TB HD, 8 gb RAM
I just bought a Samsung SyncMasterP2070 and am having some issues with it. I thought I was buying a really good top end monitor and am very unimpressed. This is my main problem: when playing video or switching between photos, certain bright areas seem to "solarize" (don't know if that's the right word for it, basically instead of showing a smooth transition from a darker part of an object to a brighter part, i see bands of colors--dark beige, lighter beige, medium beige, light beige--and it looks horrible). Also, in iPhoto, the dark grey background behind my photos looks like it has some sort of houndstooth pattern on this monitor.
I've had my MacBook Pro for a couple months, and everything works perfectly fine with it, except the DVD drive. Whenever I try watching movies on it, it always keeps skipping over nonexistent "damaged areas", even though nothing is wrong with the actual movie DVD. I watch the movies on my TV, and they still work fine, so the problem has to be something with the Mac laptop.
I've noticed that using Apple's Grab, or any other screen capture application I've tried, I always end up with slightly blurred text.
It doesn't matter if the capture is saved as TIFF or PNG or other lossless format, or as 100% JPG. Here's an example from Grab. The text doesn't look the same as it does on the screen originally - I've put an example there using Photoshop to show how the text actually looks to me on screen. You can see that the text in the screenshot is blurred.
Is there any way to get around this? Any screen capture software that can get me sharp text?
I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.6.2 on my mid-2007 white macbook. I recently reinstalled Snow Leopard, so I'm not positive if screen shots have been working before on this current installation. My problem is that whenever I attempt to take a screen shot, using cmd-shift-cntrl-[3 or 4], the snapshot noise is made, but no image file appears anywhere on my desktop. I have tried searching the computer for files containing "screen shot" in the name, and none come up, so apparently the file is not being saved anywhere on the computer. Neither restarting Finder, nor restarting the computer solved the problem, so I'm stuck.
Every time I take a screenshot (regardless of method: via preview, screenshot, selection or screen mode shortcuts), it always comes out all black! Luckily I have Snapz Pro X for video capture so I can show you what I mean, but it's much more of a pain to use on a regular basis. This has been going on for about a week and a half now.
I have a MBP with Snow Leopard and I cant figure out how to take screenshots in a game (Starcraft 2). I've tried both command+shift+3 and 4 but they don't seem to work, normally it saves a picture on my desktop but when I do this in a game nothing happens.
I've been trying to figure this one out for quite some time now. I'm using the command+control+shift+4 option to take a quick screen shot like I always have, but they haven't been posting to my desktop. I've searched all of my files for .png as the should be saving, but they aren't showing up. A tool I used that was recommended to me was to download OnyX and I could control where the files were not only being sent to, but also what type of file they were (.png, .jpeg, etc...)Regardless of where I would choose for them to go they are still showing up.
For the first time, my screen shots [command + control + shift + 3] and [command + control + shift + 4] are not saving to my desktop. I don't recall changing this setting (or how to). Where are they going? I haven't installed any software that should conflict with this macro (haven't installed anything at all except Sim City 4 since last using the screenshot feature. The desktop folder is empty and a search for "Picture 1" finds nothing.
I've but a bit of thought (and research) into this with no avail.
Basically, I'm trying to detect when a screenshot is taken.
The people over at CloudApp say they do it by monitoring the users screenshot path (com.apple.screenshotpath or whatever) and looking for new files that start with "Screen shot". However, this isn't reliable.
The people over at grab.by wouldn't reveal their secret method, but, a search of their help database reveals "Additionally TinyGrab for Mac will not auto-upload images if 'Spotlight' indexing in OS X is disabled."
P.S. I'm a total noob at this. Try to take some time dumbing things down
For some reason my screenshots are no longer showing up on my desktop, or anywhere on my computer that I can find. When I press Command + Shift + 3 or 4 I can hear the snap sound but it doesn't appear on my desktop. I've tried Spotlight search for "Picture" but found nothing. It was working fine a few days ago, I don't know what happened.
For the first time, my screen shots [command + control + shift + 3] are not saving to my desktop. I don't recall changing this setting (or how to). Where are they going?
I'm not so sure about whether the screen shots my Mac (Mac OS X 10.5.8) really is color safe or not. Because if I compare the colors in my screen shots with the actual screen, the colors variate. Is there a way to extract a screen shot with the exact colors?
My company wants to take weekly snapshots of our website homepages (22+ websites). Is there a mac app to schedule a task, specify the URL etc? I thought I had seen an app that would do this but cant recall the name/url. Doing a shift-command-3 isn't a viable solution.
I am unable to take screenshots using Command-Shift-3 (in order to take a full screen screenshot). Oddly enough, I am able to take screenshots using all other shortcuts, just not using the shortcut Command-Shift-3 , which is the feature that I want to use. Using the program 'Grab' works, but I don't want to use that program, especially for video games.
I have recently installed a program that allows me to take videos and screenshots, and it used a shortcut to 'open' but I set the hotkey/shortcut to another combination and it still doesn't work. The program is Snapz Pro X.
I am using Mac OSX Tiger with the latest updates on a Macbook Pro.
give me step-by-step instructions on how to get this to work. I don't remember changing this option in any settings, or if there is even an option to change these hotkeys, but I would really want to keep Snapz Pro X as a program...so I don't know what to do. You guys are the experts.
EDIT: I did some more troubleshooting, and I realized that there is a place where you can change the mac hotkeys to other things.
Oddly, the shortcut is the exact same as the new Snapz Pro X hotkey that I changed it to. Before, it was Command-Shift-3. I changed the program's shortcut to Command-Shift-9, and that's what 'save picture of screen as a file' says. I just changed the option (not from the program) back to Command-Shift-3 and tried it, but Snapz Pro X came up, so apparently the two hotkeys are linked to each other.
While studying I often summarize stuff i learned in a word document, and because its handy not to rewrite everything, i used to copy material out of pdf documents. Most of them are protected so i use the program "bildschirmfoto" (I guess its called screenfoto or screenshot in english) which is already installed on leopard.
- So I make the screenshot of the material (selected area) - I save it to my desktop and then - Drag it from the desktop to my word document
I guess there is a more comfortable way to do this. Like just select the area I want to screenshot and then dragging or pasting it into my word document - without the need to save it in between.
When I try to take a screenshot (Command + Shift + 3/4) I get the camera sound, but a file is never created on my desktop. I have searched my drive and can't see that these images are going anywhere.
Since a few days (since the last Security Update?) I cannot make whole or part screenshots anymore with the key combinations Command-Shift-3 and Command-Shift-4. This is in OSX.5.8. Anybody else got that prob?
I have found and read the excellent Mac OS X Screenshot page, but what do I do when I shot a screen with the keyboard shortcuts. Where is my image? I can't find it in the clipboard, so where does it go?
I have a 2009 Mac mini, and since installing 10.5.8, my (fullscreen) screenshots (CMD+SHIFT+3) are corrupt - full of lines like a TV with bad signal. What is the matter?
I bought this macbook pro about 2 months ago, and it was taking screen shots fine but now there is this one screenshot it wont let me delete, its annoying me so much sitting on my desktop, and i also cant take screen shots anymore.
I often take screenshots. com > shift > 3. They used to be pictures then became PDF's and now png in Leopard. Is the average computer user able to open these without problems? Is it the sort of thing an XP user could just double click on and open without problems. If not, is there a way to convert them to PDF?
shift + control + cmd + 3 used to work, as did + 4 to capture sections, but as of today these featuers no longer work. I hear the camera noise as if its working, yet nothing shows up on the desktop. I've tried restarting and I've tried changing the location of where the shots go. No dice.
I dont even know how to describe what's going on with my screen so i took some screenshots of me playing WoW since that's where the problem is more apparent and one desktop ss.
