Software :: Screenshots Now In PNG Format Using Leopard

Apr 30, 2009

I often take screenshots. com > shift > 3. They used to be pictures then became PDF's and now png in Leopard. Is the average computer user able to open these without problems? Is it the sort of thing an XP user could just double click on and open without problems. If not, is there a way to convert them to PDF?

OS X :: Leopard Window Screenshots Adding Drop Shadow?

Mar 23, 2008

something i noticed leopard does now, probably in the .2 update.

As cool as it is, I don't like not having the option to turn this on/off.

I know there are workarounds, but I love the ability to hit command shift 4, then space, then click a window without having to drag a crosshair.

OS X :: Repairing Leopard From CD / Will Have To Format?

May 2, 2009

I cannot install any updates. Get a "run preflight script" error. I've tried repairing my disc permissions to no avail. I want to repair with the disc that came with my MBP. Will I be able to just repair the OS without reformatting and reinstalling? I ask this because I have SO MANY progs (as well as parallels with winXP) and such on the mac and it would take an entire day to reinstall everything. Just wanted to know if I could avoid that.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How To Format USB Key

Apr 16, 2012

Choose partition table, go to Options (see screenshot above). This step is often forgotten. It is probable that a new disk/flash has MBR table, as usual with PCs; GUID is for intel macs, APT for older PPC macs. If you want to exchange data with PCs, choose RAW, otherwise they will not be probably able to copy data unto this drive. So one first formats the partition, then the volume (partition, I suppose). However, the partition choices don't match the recommended formats:

"MBR table" is presumably "Master Boot Record" (DOS/Windows only) "GUID" is first here (OS X 10.4 or later on Intel Macs only) "APT" is probably "Apple Partition Map" (all Macs only) "RAW" is the only one recommended for both Macs and PCs,but it is not an option in the screen shot above, nor when I go to the Partition tab in my Disk Utility (v.11.5.1). How do I choose RAW (to use as storage with Macs & PCs)?(Then I should erase the volume and format it as MS-DOS/Fat.)

MacBook Pro :: Format Snow Leopard And New Installation?

May 22, 2012

I want to format my Macbook Pro (Intel i7 2.7 GHz) and give it a fresh installation of Snow Leopard. I currently have two partitions on my 500 GB hard drive: the first one with the operative system, and the second one with all the backup data I want to save. Anyone can assure me that, if I install Snow Leopard again through the installation DVD, the second partition will NOT be erased? I have partial backup of the data, but not enough space for everything on my external drives. I just want to make sure that the second partition remains untouched during the installation.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Format An External Drive To Ex2/ex3?

I'm creating a Digital Cinema Package, and I need to format an external drive to Linux ex2 or ex3, and then transfer the DCP files onto it. Is there a way to do this easily from OSX? I'm fairly computer literate, but I'm mostly uneducated (and very nervous) when it comes to drive formatting, so the easier/less sketchy the better.

OS X :: Screenshots In OSX Always A Bit Blurry?

Sep 14, 2009

I've noticed that using Apple's Grab, or any other screen capture application I've tried, I always end up with slightly blurred text.

It doesn't matter if the capture is saved as TIFF or PNG or other lossless format, or as 100% JPG. Here's an example from Grab. The text doesn't look the same as it does on the screen originally - I've put an example there using Photoshop to show how the text actually looks to me on screen. You can see that the text in the screenshot is blurred.

Is there any way to get around this? Any screen capture software that can get me sharp text?

OS X :: Screenshots Not Working In 10.6.2

Jan 11, 2010

I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.6.2 on my mid-2007 white macbook. I recently reinstalled Snow Leopard, so I'm not positive if screen shots have been working before on this current installation. My problem is that whenever I attempt to take a screen shot, using cmd-shift-cntrl-[3 or 4], the snapshot noise is made, but no image file appears anywhere on my desktop. I have tried searching the computer for files containing "screen shot" in the name, and none come up, so apparently the file is not being saved anywhere on the computer. Neither restarting Finder, nor restarting the computer solved the problem, so I'm stuck.

MacBook :: Where Are Screenshots Going

Mar 15, 2012

I've been trying to figure this one out for quite some time now. I'm using the command+control+shift+4 option to take a quick screen shot like I always have, but they haven't been posting to my desktop. I've searched all of my files for .png as the should be saving, but they aren't showing up. A tool I used that was recommended to me was to download OnyX and I could control where the files were not only being sent to, but also what type of file they were (.png, .jpeg, etc...)Regardless of where I would choose for them to go they are still showing up.

Is there anything else I could do? Do you recommend formatting and resintalling Leopard?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How To Change Screen Shot Format

Every question I see about changing the screenshot format here seems overly complicated, or requires installing another app.

I'm pretty sure screenshots used to always be png, but I just noticed that they are now jpeg. I do a lot of graphics work and want to capture as png.

Here there are instructions for code in Terminal. Is that really necessary? Shouldn't it just be a preference somewhere? (I will always use cmd+shift+4 to take the screenshots)

Applications :: Detect When Screenshots Are Taken?

Dec 15, 2010

I've but a bit of thought (and research) into this with no avail.

Basically, I'm trying to detect when a screenshot is taken.

The people over at CloudApp say they do it by monitoring the users screenshot path (com.apple.screenshotpath or whatever) and looking for new files that start with "Screen shot". However, this isn't reliable.

The people over at grab.by wouldn't reveal their secret method, but, a search of their help database reveals "Additionally TinyGrab for Mac will not auto-upload images if 'Spotlight' indexing in OS X is disabled."

P.S. I'm a total noob at this. Try to take some time dumbing things down

Software :: Unable To Take Screenshots?

Feb 26, 2009

I am unable to take screenshots using Command-Shift-3 (in order to take a full screen screenshot). Oddly enough, I am able to take screenshots using all other shortcuts, just not using the shortcut Command-Shift-3 , which is the feature that I want to use. Using the program 'Grab' works, but I don't want to use that program, especially for video games.

I have recently installed a program that allows me to take videos and screenshots, and it used a shortcut to 'open' but I set the hotkey/shortcut to another combination and it still doesn't work. The program is Snapz Pro X.

I am using Mac OSX Tiger with the latest updates on a Macbook Pro.

give me step-by-step instructions on how to get this to work. I don't remember changing this option in any settings, or if there is even an option to change these hotkeys, but I would really want to keep Snapz Pro X as a program...so I don't know what to do. You guys are the experts.

EDIT: I did some more troubleshooting, and I realized that there is a place where you can change the mac hotkeys to other things.

Oddly, the shortcut is the exact same as the new Snapz Pro X hotkey that I changed it to. Before, it was Command-Shift-3. I changed the program's shortcut to Command-Shift-9, and that's what 'save picture of screen as a file' says. I just changed the option (not from the program) back to Command-Shift-3 and tried it, but Snapz Pro X came up, so apparently the two hotkeys are linked to each other.

Software :: How To Use Screenshots More Efficiently

Nov 8, 2009

While studying I often summarize stuff i learned in a word document, and because its handy not to rewrite everything, i used to copy material out of pdf documents. Most of them are protected so i use the program "bildschirmfoto" (I guess its called screenfoto or screenshot in english) which is already installed on leopard.

- So I make the screenshot of the material (selected area)
- I save it to my desktop and then
- Drag it from the desktop to my word document

I guess there is a more comfortable way to do this. Like just select the area I want to screenshot and then dragging or pasting it into my word document - without the need to save it in between.
