I just installed Camino (I'm FAIRLY new to Macs) and I really dig it, except for the status bar at the bottom. This might seem like a very slight problem, but it's just a pet peeve of mine. I've tried unifycamino and camitools, neither of which could work, also tampered with a few commands in terminal that didn't get rid of the wretched status bar. .
View 3 RepliesI was wondering about that one web browser, Camino. I installed it, but about a day or two after installation, it started freezing up, and the beach ball started showing up. It wasn't only Camino, but all of my web browsing applications started acting up. Opera and Safari were both affected by the beach ball, and my internet connections got really slow. So, stuff like Facebook and Youtube started bugging up. I deleted Camino, and some of those problems are gone now. But, I want to know, what did Camino do?

I have imported Bookmarks from Safari and Firefox, but I can't find a way to import Firefox History
I saw their support page but they say something about history.dat on Firefox Application Support page, whose isn't there, I guess its from older Firefox versions.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI find that Camino runs very well on my iBook G4 1.2 Ghz machine. It leads me to think that because Camino is not so memory intensive and full of add-ons and so on (like Firefox), that it will work well on other low-end machines...
What do others think? Any other browsers that you find optimises performance? (I am even thinking of putting Camino on my MacBook, as Safari seems to slow down a lot at times...).
I've noticed some YouTube URLs I get in email won't open in Camino (2.0.6) but work in Safari (5.0.3). Is there a plugin I am missing?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI like Safari's U.I. very much, but, everytime I load around 5 pages at the same time it starts to freeze and give me the rainbow circle on the mouse pointer. If I open the same sites with Camino everything works great and even faster than Safari.
I do not want to quite switch to Camino, because its UI is ugly, but its really superior to Safari on speed terms and has the same compatibility as Firefox, because its Gecko engine (?).

I've heard Office:Mac isn't that great, and doesn't make up for what iWork 09 is missing. So I'm wondering what people think about it and why does it get such a bland reputation? Also, do people use a combination of the above? Such as iWork and Office:Windows? Both Offices? I do mainly word processing, some soft Excel work (no hardcore giant spreadsheets...yet), and general PowerPoints for presentations. I have access to cheap iWork/Offices (school discount) and a family pack of the top-level edition of Office:PC (family) so it isn't a big deal to get any of the above.
Lastly, what's the difference between Camino and Firefox? I use Firefox currently and love it, mainly due to the add-ons (weather at the bottom, Gmail alert, skins, page views, other customizations). Tabs seem to be on all browsers these days, so are there any other key differences?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased an old Emac 700mhz G4 with OS 10.3.2. from a local school for my kids. When I install programs EG: a kids game off CD it goes through the install wizard and installs no problem. But when i click on the program Icon to run the game, it wont run it. It seems like it trys to run it as the icon does one bounce down in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen but then it disappears and nothing happens. I really want to get it connected to my wireless network for my kids and it has no internal wireless card so I purchased a Netgear WG111V3 Wifi USB adapter. The same thing happened. It installed the program no worries but will not run the setup wizard to get it working? I click on the icon and same thing happens .. icon bounces once in the toolbar and then nothing?

I tried to restart my mac book and holing ALT key and I tried to restart in OS X by- right Click on boot camp, I Can not find Mac OS XI find it strange when I open boot Camp Control Panel I can not see Mac OS X in "select the system you want to use to start up your computer".
When I was installing Windows 7- I deleted some partition Disk, is this the causing an issue??
If this is causing an issue is there an alternative or someway where I can log into my MAC OS X back.

Using imac OSX. Had handbrake installed worked o.k till I downloaded latest version. Now it wont open. deleted from applications and secured empty trash. Downloaded it again still wont open. Icon appears in applications and nothing happens when you click on it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed 2 ne w Optical drives in a 2008 3,1 MacPro Quadcore.After installation and booting up, the system profiler failed to show ANY optical drives and I was unabel to open/eject the drives naturally. I then unplugged the bottom one and rebooted and the top drive (still plugged in ) worked. I then shut down and unplugged the top drive and plugged in the bottom drive - rebooted and now the BOTTOM drive is recognized. When BOTH drives are plugged in , the system fails to show either of them.So when individually plugged in it's fine but when bith are plugged in neither of the drives are detected or operate.

View 10 Replies View RelatedSo, I have a 13" white MacBook that is about three years old. Recently, the Combo Drive stopped reading CD-Rs (possibly all discs in general, but I only ever use it to burn CDs, so I wouldn't have ever known), so I decided to try to install a new Super Drive myself.
Following a guide on [URL], I installed the new drive, but when I turned my computer back on, it was not recognizing the drive at all. System Profiler was saying "This system does not contain any ATA devices. If you have any ATA devices installed, check that they are connected and powered on." I was then able to reinstall my old Combo Drive, which my computer recognized immediately. Thinking that I may have just not connected something tightly the first time, I tried a second time. Same thing happened.
So, my question is, is there anything I may be missing or does this definitely mean the drive is defective? I just want to make sure I'm not sending back a functional drive before I go ahead and do so.
I'm experiencing some issue when I tried to reinstall my OS. It just keeps prompting me Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer. You have to use your Time Machine to restore..... etc. But its a brand new hard disk. I have also tried using another hard disk. Its just keep prompting the same error.I also have deleted and recreate with 2 partitions, but problem still surface. Deleted and Erase at Utilities- Disk Utility, also can't help.

I had to replace a dead hard drive on my old 2007 iMac. Now I am unable to install Office 2011 on an iMac that had this version of office before the old HD died. I know there are restrictions on the number of installations. Must I purchase Office 2011 again or is there another legal option?

BTW, running Snow Leopard. I have a screen shot of all the items I have excluded, but it still is doing it.
I hve a imac desktop 6 months old with iLife09 installed. I have been for 4 one to one lessons but still can not get a grip of the imoves program .My previous mac with tiger worked fine, I wondered if it was possible to install the old system in my mac to run allong side 09. My local mac shop was not sure but thought I would have to remove Ilife to do so they allso said they no longer support the older system. I wonder if you san confirm this or are they talking mince
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a new MacBook Pro, it came last week (or perhaps the week before) with 10.5.7 and I immediately bought the upgrade to 10.6. It seemed a little buggy, but nothing I could put my finger on, but this morning I couldn't start - just the apple and spinning wheel. The only thing I've done since my last restart is install software for mobile broadband usb.
I can't reinstall my system software because it's "old" (ie 10.5.7 and I've installed 10.6).
Installed a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.
My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.
After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).
So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.
I have a legal copy of iWork 09 installed via CD-ROM, it does not appear as "installed" in the app store.

Im not sure why, but after i reinstalled lion, the app store says imovie is installed, but imovie is not installed garage band installed fine, and for iphoto i had to do system update, and it installed, but for some reason app store wont let me install imovie, cause it says it is installed but it isnt
