I have recently purchased a MacBook, so i'm new to the platform. I believe the main "office" type package is iWork which will open DOC, PPT and XLS files. My question is should iWork come pre-installed or on the Mac Applications DVD? I have just loaded in the Mac Applications DVD and it seems to have "Macintosh HD" on it, which i've now installed. But no iWork.

can I open document if I don't have installed iWork or Word? and do I have to have mac version of word to install it or i could install any word on my mac?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm a recent switch from PC to a Macbook and I'm still getting used to OSX. I have iWork installed and I have noticed that since some of my professors continue to post documents in Word format, I can't open them on my computer. It will download the file but not allow me to open or view it.I'm sure its a simple download that I haven't heard of yet.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed a trial of iWork 09 yesterday to get a feel for it, liked it so went out today and purchased the box from my local Apple Store. I know about the whole not needing a serial number now however it is asking me for one since the install on all three applications. I removed the trial and all evidence of it and restarted my macbook before installing the box.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI previously installed a demo of iWork and life but after the trial period uninstalled it. Well I've now bought the licensed copies of each. Upon install and trying to launch iWork or iLife I'm getting prompted for my serial number, and of course the discs do not require a number.Do i have to call Apple or is this a common, easy fix?

View 6 Replies View RelatedInstalled a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.
My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.
After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).
So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.
I keep getting an update/install notice for Safari from the App Store and I have already installed version. How can I delete this notice?

I have installed Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and ran Software Update, and now I want to upgrade to Lion. I can open App Store, log in, access my account, but when I try to purchase Lion I get a message "We could not complete your request. There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (4)". When I click OK, I get the message "Unknown Error." I really don't want to have to reinstall everything By the way, I also created a new Apple ID with a different email just to see and I get the same error.

The Mac App Store tells me there's an update available for one of my applications, however, the install button is disabled and indicates that the new version of the app is already installed. The version number of the app (About...) shows v120...., the update in the App Store shows v121, so there's something available, it seems. How can i either download the update, or get rid of the update indication in the App Store?Â

I had to replace the hard drive in my MacBook Pro. I went to the App store with my clean install of Lion. However for a number of Apps I need it indicates that they are installed, though they aren't. I can't seem to figure out a way so it lets me redownload and install them on this computer. It's tremendously frustrating. The command click (right click) on the greyed out installed button does nothing. If you go to the app page you get the installed thing again. Â

I've been told that if you buy a new Mac it will show iLife '11 as installed in the Mac App Store so that you can then install the iLife '11 apps on your other macs without having to re-purchase iLife '11 on each computer. I have a 2010 MacBook Pro and a 2011 MacBook Pro and I've signed into the Mac App Store using the same account on each computer but the iLife '11 app still shows as being purchaseable from both computers. Any advice on how to get this to show as installed so that I can install it on my 2010 MBP without re-purchasing it?Â

I just got a new MacPro 2008 and had the Apple Store install the $50 card before i lugged it back home. I get home hook everything up and OSX doesn't see the AirPort card. I open up the computer and see the card physically there and it is. Is there something i need to do, to enable it so OSX can see it? Do the "Genius People" test everything before they give it to the consumer? Or am i missing something.
View 5 Replies View RelatedLion is working perfectly and I'm having no issues. I launched the App Store app the other day and noticed under purchases that although Lion is listed as one of my purchases, the button to the right doesn't read "Installed" like my other purchases do. Instead the button says "Install". Lion already is.Â

I have a lot of apps that were already on my computer before the App Store came out (i.e. Evernote, iWork). However, the App Store never picks up that they're already installed. It would be great if the App store could see that type of thing. Does it? If so, how do I get it to scan for previously installed apps so that it knows what to look for when there are updates or upgrades?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSome weeks ago, I installed OS X Yosemite, as shown on my App Store, that was a "System Update available for my IMac 2009". Followed all the steps, normally and installed it as I did many other times ago (with the Maverick, Mountain Lion, OS X).Â
Just after the installation, I noticed that every single folder or program that depends on "Apple", stopped working.Â
Examples: Office package opens normally, so as Firefox. But, IPhoto, ITunes, Safari and App Store itself do not.
When trying to reinstall Yosemite or return to the one I had before, using App Store became impossible. Even the "Apple Icon" on the top left corner does not work. I click, it flashes, just IF it was ready to open, but nothing happens, seams that have something stopping the "loading process" of the software.

I have a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.3, currently with the 4gb of RAM that it came with. I want to upgrade this. I am aware that there are two slots that I can use to upgrade. My question is this: the spec page for my model [URL] states that it has "4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1066MHz DDR3 memory; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 8GB." Does this mean that I can have 8 total (meaning I can only add 4), or that I can add 8 gigs, making a total of 12? As far as I'm aware, the base 4 are located somewhere else inside the computer, leaving the two expansion slots empty.

ust installed my OCZ vertex 2E 240GB drive
Installation was pretty easy to be honest and I'm a novice with laptops.
did a clean install had to partition drive first then install OSX after doing all that I did a migration from time machine.
Something odd it booted up and my facetime app wouldnt work, got the error message that OSX was to old a version for it to work..
found it had 10.6.3 on it, thought it was odd as I did an install from the disc and my system came with 10.6.4.
so I did all the updates from software update up to 10.6.5 and now everything seems perfectly fine and lightening fast
