OS X :: Installed Camino - Unable To Unify Camino And Camitools

Dec 14, 2010

I just installed Camino (I'm FAIRLY new to Macs) and I really dig it, except for the status bar at the bottom. This might seem like a very slight problem, but it's just a pet peeve of mine. I've tried unifycamino and camitools, neither of which could work, also tampered with a few commands in terminal that didn't get rid of the wretched status bar. .

Applications :: Installed Camino - Started Freezing Up?

Jan 30, 2010

I was wondering about that one web browser, Camino. I installed it, but about a day or two after installation, it started freezing up, and the beach ball started showing up. It wasn't only Camino, but all of my web browsing applications started acting up. Opera and Safari were both affected by the beach ball, and my internet connections got really slow. So, stuff like Facebook and Youtube started bugging up. I deleted Camino, and some of those problems are gone now. But, I want to know, what did Camino do?

Applications :: Camino Runs Good On IBook/MacBook?

Mar 31, 2010

I find that Camino runs very well on my iBook G4 1.2 Ghz machine. It leads me to think that because Camino is not so memory intensive and full of add-ons and so on (like Firefox), that it will work well on other low-end machines...

What do others think? Any other browsers that you find optimises performance? (I am even thinking of putting Camino on my MacBook, as Safari seems to slow down a lot at times...).

Software :: Do Firefox Addons Run On Mac OSX

Feb 27, 2008

For example, two I *really* depend upon are FireFTP and Google Toolbar.

Some I find really handy are Web Developer, Fangs, ForecastFox, Download Statusbar, and Google Notebook.

I have a load of others I use, but I suppose I could manage without them. Just curious.

(I haven't bought my MBP yet...coming within a week, learning curve and all. I hear BBEdit is a right nice website editor to replace what I have on Windows!)

Applications :: Camino 2.0 Beta 2 Vs Safari 4 Beta?

Mar 4, 2009

I like Safari's U.I. very much, but, everytime I load around 5 pages at the same time it starts to freeze and give me the rainbow circle on the mouse pointer. If I open the same sites with Camino everything works great and even faster than Safari.

I do not want to quite switch to Camino, because its UI is ugly, but its really superior to Safari on speed terms and has the same compatibility as Firefox, because its Gecko engine (?).
I will miss Top Sites and Safari's UI so much

How your Safari works? Is it fast and freeze free?

Applications :: Office:Mac Versus Office - Windows And Camino Versus Firefox

Feb 14, 2009

I've heard Office:Mac isn't that great, and doesn't make up for what iWork 09 is missing. So I'm wondering what people think about it and why does it get such a bland reputation? Also, do people use a combination of the above? Such as iWork and Office:Windows? Both Offices? I do mainly word processing, some soft Excel work (no hardcore giant spreadsheets...yet), and general PowerPoints for presentations. I have access to cheap iWork/Offices (school discount) and a family pack of the top-level edition of Office:PC (family) so it isn't a big deal to get any of the above.

Lastly, what's the difference between Camino and Firefox? I use Firefox currently and love it, mainly due to the add-ons (weather at the bottom, Gmail alert, skins, page views, other customizations). Tabs seem to be on all browsers these days, so are there any other key differences?

Applications :: Thumb Drive Applications (Installing DSL)

Sep 13, 2006

I have recently picked up a very inexpensive 1gig thumb drive (yes, they are practically giving them away anymore). It came with some proprietary software for downloading and installing apps, but it only functions on a PC. I'm looking for suggestions on apps that people may use or have used on thumb drives that can be very useful in day to day life, and I'm working off of several OS's. (Mac OSX, Windows XP, and Ubuntu Dapper Drake.) I was also thinking about installing DSL on the thumb drive.

Mac Pro :: Installing SSD For OS / Applications?

Aug 31, 2009

I have decided to go with an SSD for my OS & apps. Currently I have a 500gb HD as OS/Apps, 2 1TB drives in Bay 2+3 running Raid 1, and Bay 4 just another misc HD. I'm wanting to know, can I just take that drive out of the Mac Pro and install the SSD with the Icy Dock, start it up and install Snow Leopard? Is there anything else prior to this that I need to do, besides obviously back up? What about my raid drives, will these auto-detect once Snow Leopard is installed on the SSD? Also, are there any other recommendations when running the SSD? I've read all kinds of different opinions about TRIM and performance. etc. Anything else I should be concerned about? I am looking to purchase: [URL:...]

Windows On Mac :: Installing Boot Camp Drivers Without Installing NVidia Driver?

Jul 28, 2009

I just finished up a fresh install of Windows 7 and downloaded and installed the NVidia driver from their site directly since the one in the Boot Camp files is pretty old and technically the Vista driver anyway.

But I still need the Brightness, Sound, etc key functionality. Is there a way to selectively install Boot Camp drivers? That's the only one I need. The wireless, chipset, video and everything else works just fine (and in some cases better) than the ones included in Apple's setup.

Everything works great, but when I am on the same network as my roommate and try to open up a MS application, it tells me that I have reached the max capacity for installations under my roommates product key. The installation process does not ask to me to input my new product key so I am on why it is telling me I am still on his and what I need to do next.

OS X :: Installing Applications That Download As Files?

May 27, 2010

I keep running into applications that I can't run because the installer downloads as separate files.

It'll have a file with all sorts of pieces to the program but nothing that brings it together to run it. If there is it's only an autorun- I try the autorun(.inf) and it says there's no application specified to run it.

I have run across these types of applications more times than I can count. Every time I can't find how to make them work, and so I have to give up on them. These programs I download ARE made for Macs, so it's very frustrating- I don't understand. My husband said those types simply can't be run on a mac.

This occurs a couple of times a day, and the error reports give the exception codes "KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at ... " and other variants of that. What is causing this? How can I fix it?

I feel like some crashes are due to the fact that I need more memory but I don't know about all the others.
