Jun 16, 2012My 26,000+ song iTunes Library lives on an external LaCie drive. All the songs play fine in iTunes (and I can hear the drive spin up when I go to play them). However, for a few thousand of the songs, the song's file is not in the physical location where iTunes shows it to be.An example is below these are two song file locations from the 'Master Tune Library.xml' exported from iTunes.Both of these files show in iTunes, and they both play just fine from iTunes (no exclamation mark next to the song names). Yet only the first file (one ending in 1219.mp3)is at that location.The one ending in 1249.mp3 does not show in that location, either via Finder, or via Terminal.
From Terminal I get no results from "find /Volumes/LaCie500 -name espace_20101103_1249.mp3"Â (without the dbl quotes) But if I run the same command for the 1219 file, it does find it in the expected location.Really stumped as from where iTunes is playing 1249.mp3. [code] iTunes Media folder location is /Volumes/LaCie500/myTunes Both options underneath for "organize" and "copy files when adding to Library" are checked.
ITunes For Mac :: Exclamation Marks Show Up But File Is Not Missing?
Dec 4, 2014After upgrading my iMac to OSX 10.10 suddenly thousands of the songs in my itunes playlists have an exclamation point in front of them and they get skipped during playback. I can play them by simply double-clicking on the song, this will clear the exclamation mark and start playback. I can also clear the mark by selecting the song and choosing "Get Info"—as soon as the info window opens the mark disappears. Once the mark is gone the song then behaves normally and plays in the playlist.Â
It has nothing to do with deleted files. No files have been deleted. Itunes never asks me to locate files. The files are inside my itunes folder as they always were.
I have not synced with any devices. I have never synced itunes.
I doubt it has anything to do with itunes Match because I've never used Match or subscribed to it.Â
It appears that the only way to fix this is to doubleclick on every song that has an exclamation mark. That would take hours to do.Â
A few days ago upgraded my macbook pro to OSX 10.10 and it has exactly the same problem.
ITunes :: Using Itunes To Play Music From External Drive / Playlists Show No Music File
Aug 6, 2010...now I don't have the same functionality with iTunes. Basically, I can't use iTunes at all anymore as the interface for my music and videos. Once the external drive is mounted, I can navigate through it and play individual songs, but I can't use iTunes to do that. All my previous Playlists show up down the left side of iTunes, but there isn't any music in them.
I downloaded 2 songs yesterday, made a Playlist out of them, and because the path in the Advanced tab of the iTunes Preferences is correct, it automatically added the songs to the external hard drive. I synced my iPod and it was completely erased except for the 2 new songs. Is there a way to use iTunes to navigate my music like I used to when I stored the information on the internal hard drive but keep the information on the external drive? I have a Mac running Snow Leopard and the latest version of iTunes.

Nov 13, 2009I was doing several things at once on my iMac (ripping a DVD, on iChat video, etc) and my mac crashed. Now it won't open iTunes. I have a 500 gig music library and hundreds of playlists etc, so I'd hate to have to reinstall iTunes and lose all that. Is that what would happen if I reinstalled iTunes? I have Time Machine hooked up. Could I go into that and grab an iTunes prefs file from before the crash, and put that in the current system folder? Would that be something to try?

Oct 18, 2010Today I tried opening my keynotes presentation file to make amendments to it and when I double clicked on it, the program loading bar only loaded up a third of the way and then hanged. I then tried to save it to a flash drive and use it on a different computer, but when I tried to copy it over to the flash drive it gave me this error: "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "garment styles" could not be read or written error code - 36".
I have tried changing the file extension to a zip, then unzipping it and then renaming it but that did not work.(It wouldn't let me unzip it). I have also looked at the index file name to see if that was the problem, but that is as it should be.
I have also tried uploading it to a website and emailing it and it will not let me.
Is there anyway I can recover this file as I have been working on it for over a month and it is due next week, or will I need to start again?
Software :: Unable To Open Encrypted File / Recovering The Original File?
Aug 23, 2009ok trying not to get a panic attack here. I downloaded espionge to encrypt my valuable files and while it was encrypting (AES 128 bit i think) the program froze and I had to Force quit it. Now I try to open my file (that i was trying to encrypt) and it looks f*^&# up. I can't open it, and when I tried to unmount the partially encrypted file, espionage gave me errors that it couldnt recover the original file.
I had basically all my life's valuable accumulated data in that folder (it was 10 Gb+). I will praise anyone to the end of my days that can somehow tell me how to restore my file to its original state. Usefull info:
1) AM planning to pay gazillions for recovery software if need be, but free alternatives are always better.
2) I never secure delete if that helps
3) I still have the .sparseimage for the file created by espionage. (P.S. sparseimage's size looks really close to the orignal, also 10 Gb +).
4) Newest version of OSX, and have an IMac.
5) after incident I haven't done anything (no installations or downloads) apart from writing this.
6) the encrypted file was gonna be in HFS+ i think

Apr 10, 2012I try to open an Open Office spread sheet and it simply saves the file as another file with the .cpgz extension which does the same thing. This did not happen a couple weeks ago; I think my download for Apple updates may be the culprit. My OS X is now 10.7.3, I believe originally it was 10.7.2 but I could be wrong.Â
The original document is a zip archive but now "saves as" a .cpgz archive. I have tried the "Unarchiver", which I just downloaded, but it only creates another file with subfolders, none of which appear to have my original spread sheet. (To be honest, I never noticed this Open Office spread sheet file was a zip file until a few minutes ago when I tried to unsuccessfully open it).Â

I switch between windows a lot, and it's nice how on XP in the taskbar at the bottom all the windows are displayed. I know I can do CMD + Tab, I know I can do the display all windows, but it's just a lot easier this way. I sit back in my chair a lot while browsing the internets and its easier if I can do it with my mouse. I was wondering if the active windows can be displayed in the upper menu bar, not the Dock, because mine autohides and it would be easier in the menu.

Apr 6, 2010I have a PDF file that I know has attachments in it, but when I open the PDF file with Preview the attachments do not show up, nor does it even seem possible to view them (I know they are there because I can see them using Windows Foxit PDF reader). Does anyone know if this is possible with Preview or will I have to get the Adobe Reader? I dread getting anything adobe because on Windows computers their software is so bloated and a resource hog.

Apr 2, 2012I am using Stata, a statistical analysis program. Recently, when I try to open a file, using File Open, the program hangs and I have to force it to quit. I can open files easily if I use Recent files. When the file gets open, I can do everything I should be able to do with the program. Analysis, graphics, etc. It is JUST when I do File Open that it hangs, and it seems to be ONLY with Stata.Â

OS X Mavericks :: Apple Mail Window Will Not Open / Show On Desktop
Jun 29, 2014I open mail and it launches since it is showing in the dock and the mail menu is visible. The main mailbox window is missing and most all of the menus are greyed out, even in the window menu where it allows you to select a window to see the main mail window is not showing up.Â
I have manually rebuilt the mailbox database and that did not work. I deleted the "Account.plist" file from the ~/library/mail/MailData/ folder and this seem to work. When I launched mail after I deleted this file the Main mail window was there with all my mailbox folders and emails. The only thing missing was the inbox for my main email account. Mail required that a new email account be created otherwise it would quit, I create the email account and everything was fine, until I quit out of mail. The next time I launched it again i was back to not have the main mail window. The only way to get it to come back is to delete the "Account.plist" file again and created the main email account. The only work around I have at this point is not to quit mail.Â

May 2, 2012I just went through the process of buying an app as a gift to be delivered via email. Typed my personal message to the recipient, confirmed the delivery address. Got the review screen. Then when I clocked to purchase the app, I got a security screen asking me to select 3 security questions and an alternate email address. Got immediate emails from Apple noting the changes to my account. But I never got an email confirming the gift purchase. How do I tell if it went through? The item is not listed in my purchases, but maybe that's by design?  Did the security question dialog hijack the purchase process?Â
(Also checked my credit card website, and it doesn't look like there's a pending charge yet. But I'd hate to purchase this app twice.)
