Applications :: Alternate For Sound Library / Archive Software?
Jul 9, 2010I'm trying to find a better archiving tool for sounds and music, particularly useful for sound designers. iTunes has many of the features I like because creates an easy-to-search library for music but I'd like to add other tags to the files and be able to categorize them more specifically by types of sounds/music. Plus, I don't want to add a whole sound library in the middle of my music collection for iTunes.

Feb 1, 2009I have saved my dead laptop's HD as an external which has lots of iPhoto images/videos on it & only connects to an older laptop. I also have another laptop with more iPhoto images/videos... my problem is that I don't have a burner to get the images off these HD's nor do I know how to combine all the images on an external.Is it possible to (like in iTunes) assign an alternate device for storage of your iPhoto library. I don't see that option in iPhoto.I only have these two old laptops with OSX (10.3.9) an am running out of disk space

Jul 2, 2012My iTunes freezes a lot since last December and it's really annoying and frustrating when it happens now. I get the whole beach ball thingy and sometimes need to Force Quit applications and still sometimes that doesn't seem to alleviate the problem. So a friend suggested to create a whole new iTunes library and see if I get the same issues of freezing on this newly created library. I can't even watch movies as it gives slight pauses when watching movies off iTunes. How to create a new Library.

Sep 5, 2014I have accumulated a large amount of Christmas music in my iTunes library and am running out of space on my hard drive. I would like to create a library on an external hard drive that contains only my Christmas music and delete it from my computer. I have successfully created a library that i named "iTunes - Christmas". On this HD there were 64 albums that had nothing to do with Christmas music.Â
My question is, how do I get my 758 pieceses Christmas music from my MacBook Pro to my iTunes Library on my external HD, freeing up space on my computer?

OS X :: Alternate Way To Open .sit Files Under SL?
Sep 5, 2009I think at some point in the past I had Stuffit Expander installed on my Leopard box. I suspect this because when I browse to a .sit file I still get the choice to 'open with stuffit expander'. If I select this choice I get a text edit file with a bunch of gibberish in it.
I don't want to reinstall Stuffit on my SL box. I remember Stuffit being really invasive and try to take over the unzipping of .zip files from the OS X archive utility, etc.
So, I have two questions;
1. Is there any other way to unpack .sit files?
2. Is there any way to clean out the last traces of my previous stuffit installation?

Apr 24, 2012iTunes often tells me it can't save my library file anymore. When I check my itl file in the Finder, it isn't linked to iTunes anymore ("open with") and my permissions are listed as "you have unknown access". If I quit and restart iTunes it says the Library file cannot be found. A simple reboot solves this problem every time, but it shouldn't happen in the first place.

May 20, 2012Can one itunes library.itl file be used for music in two different itunes media files? I have an Air. Want to have music in MP3 format on the Air and the same music in Lossless format on a large external HD. Would like same playlists etc for both types. Lossless takes up too much room on the Air but for playing tunes on the road, MP3 is fine. Want to keep same music as Lossless for archiving and for playing on very good speakers at times; would be kept on the external HD. Would like to have the same playlists, ratings, etc., for music that is in both MP3 and Lossless format. For example, rating Dylan's Blood on the Tracks album as a 5 for both the tracks that are in MP3 format (that live on the Air) and the same tracks in Lossless format (that reside on the external HD). I realize I could have separate iTunes folders on the Air and the Ext HD but then would have to duplicate all the data on playlists, ratings, etc. for the two independent iTunes folders.Â

Jun 16, 2012Foolishly, i excluded my ~/music folder from my Time Machine backup, and when i restored following a recent system drive meltdown, i lost all of my iTunes library files - the .itl, the Previous iTunes Libraries, the .xml, everything. However, my media was on a different drive, which is still spinning. Additionally, i had my library synched to my iPhone, and i had Matched what iTunes could Match to the cloud. So i have all of my media locally, i have most of my media in the cloud and or on my phone, and i have most of my playlists in the cloud or on the phone. What is the best way for me to put my data back into iTunes and return to normalcy? In that i have an empty library right now, i have turned synching off on my phone. What i most want to get back is playlists. What i secondly want to get back are playcounts and ratings.

Jun 26, 2012I want to set up my old Mac Mini as a home server for our Apple Tv2 and my Macbook pro, but I am having difficulty setting up iTunes. All of our music is stored on an external hard drive, attached to the Mini and i have set up an iTunes library on the Mini too. So far so good, and I can access this library on the MacBook as a shared library, and the Apple TV through home sharing.
But, I want to go further and add to and edit the shared library (i.e. the one on the Mini) using iTunes on my MacBook. Am I able to also access the library file stored on the Mini from iTunes on the MacBook pro, so I am using the same library file on two instances of iTunes on two different computers?
Currently when I try (by opening iTunes on the MacBook while holding down option, and 'choosing' the library on the Mini, i get the following error message: The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file

But get this, I hook it up to my old Dell and I can do whatever I want. I am friggin pissed that I spent all this money on Mac equip and can't get it going. You may have seen my other post where I posed my issue of: 1tb ethernet drive hooked to airport extreme. Above mentioned 1tb hooked up to back of it via usb. I am completely unable to copy, move, or add files using my mac. But guess what. my pc handles it easily and quickly.

Jun 29, 2012This morning I opened iTunes and all I got was a little sound box that let me play a preselected piece from my library, but I can no longer see my library. All my choices under the file drop down menu are grayed out. "Library" is active, but the only choices are "organize," "export" "import." I can't even get the sidebar that lets me open my iTunes radio stations. I just upgraded to version 10 to see if that was the problem, but to no avail.

Apr 16, 2008I had to restore my library a while ago...no problem, dragged it onto the desktop, iTunes rebuilt it from the .xml file and everything was fine...only problem is now I'm trying to tidy up my desktop and those two pesky library files won't stay deleted from the desktop no matter how man times I trash them...Now, I understand the library file needs to update itself and all, but why can't it keep it's business confined to the iTunes folder?

Feb 28, 2012After I moved my iTunes media and library back from an external drive back to my new laptop (with a larger drive), I can't open iTunes. I get this message "The iTunes Library file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the iTunes folder in the "Music" folder. The only option it gives is to click "OK" and iTunes shuts down. I tried reinstalling iTunes but the problem persists. I've checked and my iTunes Library.itl file is in its proper location.Â

Oct 2, 2010i have a problem with i tunes, i'm trying to make a ring tone for my iphone from an existing file in my library. to do that i need to press "create an acc version" from the "advanced" tab amongst other procedures but the problem is that the aforementioned option is grey, meaning it can not be pressed, i have a similar problem where a simple thing as copy/paste can't be done on the computer because that to is grey and their fore i just cant press it.
