OS X :: How To Decrease Firefox CPU Usage

Aug 7, 2009

My Mac has been lagging a bit every once and a while so I checked Activity Monitor to see why and Firefox is using 40-65 CPU and around 65 threads.

Also will Snow Leopard thread switching work on every Intel Mac or only new ones?

Applications :: Firefox 4.0 B7 - Increased RAM Usage...

Nov 11, 2010

So the latest beta is apparently 64-bit to begin with. I've also noticed that it uses more RAM than the previous (beta) versions, which is quite disappointing. It now uses up even more RAM than Safari!! Has anyone else noticed that?

I also don't like the the new "page loading" status because it doesn't tell much - seems like a copy of Chrome's too. I preferred how it was in the previous beta version.

OS X :: Safari Versus Firefox RAM Usage

Feb 18, 2006

I'm sure you've all read about the Firefox memory leak brouhaha. Firefox 1.5+ is supposed to suck down memory like there is no tomorrow.

Someone made this challenge:

"If you keep opening tabs in Firefox say, more than 10 or 15 the browser starts to slow to a crawl. See how many tabs you can open, but participate at your own risk! Oh, and uh... be sure to save all of your work first."

Well I ran that test. I opened 33 tabs in FF 1.5.01 on my iBook (see sig). FF doesn't bat an eyelash, no slowdown whatsoever.

Applications :: Firefox And 100 Cpu Usage - How To Manage To Smooth

Sep 19, 2010

...Firefox on my mac pushes my cpu to 100% usage!

I use to have about 20 tabs open all the time, but this is not the case in c2d cpu, I think.

So, when so many things (osx, addons versions, ff versions) changes, I really do not know what else to search for, in order to make my firefox have a normal cpu usage.

MacBook :: CPU Usage Very High Just Using Safari/firefox?

Mar 6, 2009

The HD crashed about 2 years ago, and since the replacement (TOSHIBA MK6034GSX 60GB) the CPU will go very hot 80+C and the fan going to 6200rpm if visiting some internet pages. Normally a problem if (when) the kids are playing free online games or visiting youtube or similar. Made a screenshot, notice CPU usage around 112%, smartfan showing 70C and 6200rpm. I have taken the mac physically apart and cleaned the cooling duct and applyed new thermal paste. Didn't help. It drives me crazy, I hate noisy computers.

Mac Pro :: How To Decrease Ati 3870 Noise?

Mar 19, 2009

I just got a replacement Ati radeon 3870 because the first cards fans didn't run at all for a minute or so and would then spin up full for 30 seconds or so and so forth, regardless of what i was doing.

My replacement card came today but this cards fan runs full all of the time?

Surely this is a driver or fan control issue or something, my previous nvidia 8800GT was silent all of the time, but alas I could not play Call of Duty 2 with that card hence the switch.

Is there anything i can do to help cool the card besides fitting aftermarket fans which i don't feel confident doing and they don't seem to support the 3870 100%.

Maybe open up the PCI slots or upping the Mac Pros fans via SMC Fan Control?

Or do i return it and switch back to a 8800gt and forfit Call Of Duty 2 or wait and switch it for a 4870?

I'm going to try and live with the fan noise tonight but does anyone own a quiet 3870?

For the record I'm running a 2008 2.8GHZ 4-Core Mac Pro with 8Gb of Ram and 10.5.6. I tried a clean install on a new hard drive and the card behaved the same.

PowerPC :: How Can I Decrease The Noise Coming From My Emac?

Sep 18, 2007

How can I decrease the noise coming from my emac?

Sounds like a Jumbo jet taking off. Most of the noise sees to be more from the wooshing of the air through the vents rather than the fan.

I've vacuumed all the dust out of it (I bought it used).

Any ideas that don't require major surgery. I'm wondering if putting a new fan in would help? How much are new fans?

Dec 11, 2009

I have a 15 inch aluminum macbook pro, Snow Leopard and recent updates all installed, but i noticed something on my friends 13 inch macbook pro that mine doesn't do.

On my friends, when you press the screen dim/bright button (F1, F2), its a gradual transistion, but on mine it just jumps down a notch.

For example, when you hold down the dim button on my friends MBP, it the screen dims in a similar way as to when you put your finger over the iSight camera, it fades to a dimmer screen.

command-option-apostrophe does not work in Apple Mail for me (Mail 7.3, OS 10.9.3). This is the keyboard shortcut used to decrease the quote level of a quoted line in a Mail message. In other words this is the keyboard shortcut for the menu item:

Format --> Quote Level --> Decrease

It hasn't worked for me since at least 10.8. Are others having this problem or do I need to dig more deeply through system extensions, looking for some kin of conflict?

But if I keep my adapted connected as much time as possible, to reduce the number of those cycle counts, will it harm it battery? What is best way to keep the battery running healthy for long time - charging it once a day or using it with adapted connected most of the times?

Is this normal? I'm pretty sure it's not, at least the iTunes bit. I am using cover flo and I know that's supposed to increase the RAM usage but I don't even have the window open (it's in another space.) I've been seeing this high amount of RAM usage lately so I ran techtool deluxe and there was an error with the volume structure. I repaired permissions from the OS X install disk and since then the volume structure test passes but I'm still getting the unusually high numbers.
