MacBook Pro :: Uninstall Firefox 11 And Re-install Firefox 3.6?
Apr 23, 2012
I don't like Firefox 11 one bit and am yearning for 3.6. I read online to drag firefox 11 to trash and that, of course did nothing to actually uninstall. I then dowloaded 3.6 and 'installed' that, restarted but still firefox 11 lives on in my computer.

I did an uninstall of Firefox, wanting to just go back and start over, clean. I went into my profile & deleted that (after saving to USB). Now I'm wondering abt getting rid of the icon and how do I check to make sure there is nothing at all on my computer. Isn't that what I want in the event I just want to start over? I love Firefox and just want to get it back on my system, operating properly.

the Firefox addons on Mozilla's website work on OSX when using Firefox? I just wanted to make sure since I like using all of the apps on my firefox configuration and was thinking about buying a mac. I know a lot of 3rd party apps that aren't specifically made for Mac at times will not work

I am a new Mac user (well, came back after an 8 year absence) and am trying to install Firefox but I can't find the download anywhere so I can actually install it! This is what I did.
1) I clicked the download Firefox for Mac button at the Mozilla website.
2) I saw the little grey box at the top of my Safari browser telling me that the download was complete, but now I can't find what I downloaded from Firefox anywhere!
3) Of course I checked the Download folder, the Desktop, Applications, and did a search in the Finder for it and it seems to have disappeared. And of course I have tried downloading it several times.
4) Last night when I first attempted to download Firefox, there was a little window somewhere with what appeared to be the download, but it said something about it not being there because I moved it. Well, I didn't move anything anywhere.

My Firefox asked if I wanted to install updated system plug-ins. I closed the browser, drug the install to my Applications folder, and now there's a copy in there as well as a Firefox ejectable icon on my desktop. I don't know where to go from here.

I've been in and out of these forums since last December. I bought my first MacBook and I couldn't be happier. Best computer ever! I am never going back to PC, and I'm trying to convert the rest of my family. I am starting with the most difficult hill to climb first, my father. He just barely learned how to download music and burn CDs this year. My mom just needs to send emails and pay bills online. So for fathers day, I bought my dad a used show white iMac G3. I can't believe how fast it is. He thought it came from space, but was excited. He's not tech savvy in any way, but he is trying and is slowly learning. I'm trying to get it as close to what he's use to, and there is the problem. He knows what FireFox looks and feels like, but I cannot install it. I download the program, "install" it, but I can't load it up. I click on the icon and it bounces up and down in the dock and then fades away. Its like the feeling you get when your car is about to start and dies down. I have no idea what to do. I'm only 7+ months into Mac's, so I could be missing something simple...maybe? I've check the permissions on firefox and allowed everyone to read/write but nothing I can think of anything else. Also, I've been searching and searching for this one, but I have no idea how to word it and I'm coming up nothing. Since I can't run firefox, I'm teaching the old man to use safari. He could eventually learn it, but even I prefer firefox. That's another story for another time. Any ways, the problem with Safari on his G3, even after every possible update (I think), every layout on every page is totally off. When I click on Safari and the apple home page comes up, some icons are cut in half, the bottom bar with the list of links is towards the middle, and side bars are just messed up. Pages like craigslist come up with a harsh fully aligned left layout. Other pages have words stacked on other words so its impossible to make out whats going on. My mom was going crazy because she couldn't figure out how to log out of her bank account (kinda funny). I've tried Displays on the iMac, I've tried View on Safari, messing with text size, ect, nothing has helped me. I don't know what to do here either.

A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time. Understand I am a novice user compaired to most so, here is what I've done so far. Deleted FF in Apps. (trashed)Deleted FF profile (trashed)Attempted stoping any process in the activity monitor(nothing there)Force quit FF (nothing there) Searched every place I can think of for any file named Firefox or Mozilla with no results.cannot find anything in a "profile" that looks FF related Tried re-downloading FF and re-installing(same error prompt) Tried restarting the comp I made the switch to Apple this year because owners and users of Mac seem to very proud of their product, so does Mac according to the price.

I been really curious about the temperature of my computer. Recently, I downloaded istat pro just to see the stats of my computer. I noticed that temperature is kind of high. For example, when I am using firefox and openoffice, the CPU A is 49 to 50c. I don't know if this is normal or not.
Also, when I use vmware fusion for windows xp, the temp for CPU A gets around 69 to 71c. Is this completely normal?
Here are the stats of my unibody macbook pro:
2.4ghz
2.0 GB of RAM
250gb of hard drive
15 inch
better words, it is the stock version.
Istatpro as of now:
HD Macintosh: 37
CPU A: 50
Enclosure Base 35
Enclosure Base2: 35
Enclosure Base3: 33
GPU: 45
GPU Heatsink: 42
Mem Controller: 43

Here's what iStat has to say about my Mid-2007 White MacBook! All I have open is TextEdit, iCal, Preview, Safari, and Firefox. I've been noticing that my computer gets especially hot when I'm using Firefox. Should I worry about it disintegrating from the insides or are these levels of temperature perfectly normal? It's really difficult for me to keep it on my lap if I'm using it for longer than 15 minutes because the bottom of the case gets insanely hot. It's also quite discolored around the edges (sort of a greenish blue) and around where the exhaust is and it's cracked around the edges and where the hinges are around the screen.

The mac I have listed below does the spinning beachball thing a lot when I'm using Mozilla's FireFox browser. It's got to the point some times where I have to hard shut down the machine by holding the power switched. I have the following installed with firefox as addons.
Office Live Plug-in 7.6.3(Microsoft)
Shockwave flash 10.0.32
Jave Embedding Plugin 0.9.7.2 MRJ Plugin ver. 1.0-jep-0/.9.7.2
Quicktime 7.6.3 plugin
Flip4Mac 2.2.3
Default GECKO plugin(No idea what this is)
I also have something for a facebook plug in but it's not listed and I don't remember what it did. I just removed the Mini-istat widget, maybe that was the problem, not sure. I just uninstalled Firefox with App Cleaner and reinstalled using something I freshly downloaded. I ran all the Tech Tool delux stuff that came with the MacBook Pro Apple Care CD set. I also play COD4 and World of Warcraft, without problem. iTunes Illustrator CS3 and MS Office run fine.

I'm running FF 3.6.6 on a MacBook Pro (new 2010) OS 10.6.4 and Firefox has been acting really slow and the death wheel comes up A LOT. I just re-installed snow leopard onto my MBP because flash was sluggish but just found out that it was FF all along. Whenever I go to right click or go to the menu, the death wheel comes on. When viewing flash videos, the video stops but audio continues for about 3sec then the video catches up. This happens every time. Is this just me or are there other people that are having the same experience? I'm not running anything else on the computer and it acts the same way.

I run Firefox (and Safari and Chrome) on a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. If I go to [URL] it tells me that my version of Java should be updated, but the Software Update... under my apple menu does not update it. The reason for this update is that security problems were found. Has Apple made the updated Java plugin for Firefox available? If so, how do I install it?

When I click on my Firefox icon now, it brings up the window to choose safe mode or reset. It won't do anything in either. Â
I have re-started many times. I have shut down and restarted. Nothing is working!Â
I have no menu bar, no availability to pull down from anything. Just the spinning wheel.Â
Firefox is my default browser and I have many tabs and open windows I would love to access.Â

I have noticed that Firefox has been doing some weird things, random stuff that I don't even really understand how to even explain it. I am wondering if it is beneficial to just start over with Firefox....meaning, how do I completely uninstall and reinstall it? I have read that even when you do an uninstall process, that it keeps things on your hard drive. Can anyone explain (remember, novice terminology please) how to go about getting anything & everything related to Firefox OFF of my computer, then just reinstall it?? Also, on a somewhat unrelated note....when browsers get updates and we install them, am I supposed to go and uninstall the previous version? i.e.: new updates for Safari, iTunes, Firefox, iPhoto....anything?

I saw a thread the other day that alluded that Chrome or FF were memory hogs vs Safari. I have FF on my iMac and like it fairly well, my wife really prefers it. I have not installed it on my MBA because of the comments that I read the other day. It seemed like someone also posted Chrome was almost or as bad. There have been some spirited threads on how to keep our Airs running at top efficiency, going both easy on the RAM and on the battery life. The general consensus amongst members is Flash with a Flash filter plugin such as ClickToFlash battery life. If a browser is a memory hog will it also hasten the battery's discharge or just sap your RAM? Or would the user never really notice the difference unless they were tunnel visioned on their system monitor whilst surfing the web?

After testing this on two different networks, same problem. For instance, I'll try to go to Google.com, works fine. Then I'll go to gmail.com, wont work. Go to drudgereport.com, go back to gmail.com and it works. This is happening with all websites. Sometimes they'll work, sometimes they wont. When they aren't, if I wait a few minutes, they suddenly work again.
