OS X :: Cannot Partitioning Disk For Boot Camp?

Jun 27, 2009

I keep getting this error..."The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up disk use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."So I've checked and my HD is already a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. I've gone to Disk Utility and verified the HD, verified permissions, and repaired permissions. I don't know what else to do. I don't want to backup the entire drive and format it.

Windows On Mac :: Setup Boot Camp - Partitioning Disk

Apr 7, 2009

I setup boot camp yesterday and it messed up, blue screen of death, unresponsive, etc. I deleted the partition and I tried making a new one. 40GB out of my 250GB (173 Free). I got a error that said i needed to restore my system, i do not have a external hard drive and i couldn't do that. Then i figured out what this error means:I read it has something to do with not having enough memory, where i have to defrag something, basically it was a long explanation but it made sense (I just deleted a 50GB file). So i was able to make a 5GB partition, and i'm like, "Ok, it works, ill try a 32". I tried a 32 partition and it just sits at "Partitioning Disk". If i open disk utility i can see

Software :: Boot Camp Not Partitioning?

Jul 3, 2009

I tryed using Boot Camp to partition a windows drive. I've used boot camp before and had no problems. Now when I use it i get "the disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved." It tells me to use disk utility and format my drive to a single mac os format. I can't because it's my mac internal hard drive. I've used disk utility to repair the drive but it didn't need it.

Windows On Mac :: Partitioning Error With Boot Camp?

Jan 15, 2010

I know this question has probably been answered somewhere, but I can't seem to find anything quite like my situation.

I'm resizing the Windows partition on a 2.2GHz 15" Macbook Pro. I deleted the partition using Boot Camp, but when I went back to repartition it, I get the error that states:

"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. - Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume ..."

However, according to Disk Utility, there's only one partition on the drive, and it's correctly formatted. I'm not missing any hard drive space or anything. Is there any way to fix this without going through the hassle of reformatting my hard drive?

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp Continuously Fails At Partitioning?

Feb 3, 2010

I would like to say that this is my first post on the forum. Here it comes;I'm new with mac and would like to install windows on my black 3.1 Macbook. Boot Camp continuously fails at partitioning. I've read many articles about it which say iDefrag is the solution. So I did some defragments with iDefrag (the on-line, compact and the full-defragment) and tried to partitionate with Bootcamp lateron but it did not work. What should I do to fix this.

OS X :: Boot Camp - No Bootable Disk

Jun 16, 2009

I am running Leopard on a 1st gen macbook. I used boot camp assistant to partition the disk, and then went to install windows. I didn't back up bc I am an ass. Then I got to the part where I had to choose a partition. I reformatted the Boot Camp partition to NTFS. I then realized that the partition is too small. I have to get back into Leopard to fix the partition problem. Now, I can't reboot to Leopard. Holding alt or the apple key or both does not prevent the windows dvd from booting. When I eject the DVD, it tells me "no bootable disk." I never installed Vista. I don't understand how I could have overwritten anything or caused any data loss.

OS X :: Tried Installing XP With Boot Camp And Got Disk Error?

Jan 9, 2010

I'm a new MAC user and would need to install XP on my MAC. I'm sure there are thousands of threads out there about this but I couldn't find one. I've tried installing with Boot Camp and got Disk Error. Realised I had Service Pack One. The CPU then wouldn't boot properly as it looked for the WIN CD later so I have to hold down the Option key every time I boot up. I now have XP Pro with SP3 and have partitioned the space (20gb). Just don't want to mess it up so I'll wait for a reply here.

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp Start Up Disk?

Jul 14, 2010

Have had boot camp working just how I wanted it (default boot into W7) since day 1, but have just had a problem! All of a sudden, the MBP boots into OSX by default. If I hold option (alt), I do have the option to boot into windows, but under disk utility in OSX, it cant see my W7 partition! Even when I boot into W7 manually, boot camp control panel only has OSX as the only boot disk! I have searched and returned a few instances of this, but all have the complication of people using NTFS tools, I havnt done that.

OS X :: Boot Camp Broken In Leopard - Disk Error?

Nov 5, 2007

On my new MBP, I had Tiger and Boot Camp 1.4 Beta.

When I got my Leopard UTD disc, I simply did an upgrade. Last night, I was fed up with some of the weirdness, and decided to start with a clean slate.

I removed my windows/boot camp partition, popped in my Leopard disc, selected erase and Install, and within 30 minutes it was done (seems way too fast...wtf?)

Anyway, I go through the Boot Camp steps to install Windows. When I get to the Windows setup where you select a drive to install, it doesn't give me the option to format the Boot Camp C: drive, but instead just installs.

After rebooting, it gives me a DISK ERROR.

A bit of googling shows others have had this problem, too. Is EVERYONE having this problem? Did Apple break Boot Camp with Leopard?

Is there any viable workout other than formatting to Tiger, installing 1.4, then upgrading again?

Is it possible to uninstall the Boot Camp assistant on Leopard and find/download/install Boot Camp 1.4 on Leopard, and go from there?

I need windows for school - and this is driving me nuts!

OS X :: Deleted Boot Camp Partition In Disk Utility - No External HD

Jul 18, 2010

I deleted my Boot Camp partition in Disk Utility (as usual, Windows wasn't working and wouldn't fix). I resized my Macintosh HD partition to cover the whole drive and repartitioned. Now Disk Utility says that the partition's capacity is 160 GB and that I've used 40 GB and that 70 GB is available. My Boot Camp partition was 50 GB. I've read that to fix it I have to boot from my install DVD, go to Disk Utility, set the number of partitions to one, and delete the entire drive so that there's zero data left. Then I'd reinstall OS X and restore from a Time Machine backup. As of now, I have no external hard drive.

I am trying to install Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my MacBook Pro purchased late 2011 and running Lion.  The Windows software was purchased online and downloaded.  I then copied the .iso file to a dvd.  When I try and install Windows through Boot Camp it doesn't recognize that there is a disk in the drive to install Windows.  I sure hope I didn't waste my money.  Has anyone installed Windows 7 from a OEM download?

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp 3.2 Update Uninstalls Boot Camp On 2006?

Nov 21, 2010

In retrospect, I should have ignored it when Apple Software Update told me about the Boot Camp 3.2 upgrade for my 2006 Mac Pro running x64 Win 7 ultimate. When I ran it, it overwrote my blue tooth driver and my keyboard stopped working. Thanks for the folks at Mac Rumors forums, I was able to go through the procedure to get it working again, and I also had to update the video driver (again) from ATI for my 3800.

So then I decide to reboot into MacOS and discover that my icon for selecting the boot disk was gone, not to mention any directory or programs in the start menu. This happen to anyone else? Do I have to downgrade to 3.1 or does anyone have a recommendation to get 3.2 working?

Is it possible to install Windows 7 on an internal disk via Boot Camp and then remove this disk and use it as an external drive? I have two drives for my mini, one in use and one in an external case; unfortunately, neither have room for everything plus Windows. If the answer to this question is no, then I'll buy a bigger drive. I'd just like to avoid this if possible (I already have a ton of external drives and not enough ports to plug them into).

Now I want to add another partition, splitting the Leopard partition into two. I want to add a 20GB partition. I have cleaned my computer, and there is plenty of free space to do this. Currently 70GB free. So I go into disk utility, and try to partition. Doesnt work. Says that it failed to verify, repair disk. Then i boot from Tiger install disk, open disk utility, and verify disk. Says there are errors so i repair disk. Says that it repair worked. Verified again just to be sure, no problems. Go back into leopard and disk utility to try and partition, still does not work, I get the same error.

OS X :: Partitioning With Disk Utility For Storage And Backup

Jun 25, 2009

Here's my setup:
One, dual bay enclosure (1.5TB x2):
OWC Mercury Elite - AL Pro Dual Bay Enclosure
https://eshop.macsales.com/item/Othe...ng/MEFW934AL2/
and one, two pack of 1.5TB Seagate HD
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...550055-683153-
Total: paid $310 including shipping for the 3.0TB external setup.

I'm going to use FW400(since my MB pro has no 800 port) and partition this into two 1.5TB partitions. one for storage, and one for time machine backup. My question is if I choose 2 partitions in disk utility, will it automatically know to use one of the 1.5TB Seagate HD for one partition and the other 1.5TB seagate for the 2nd partition? Or will it use half of one and half the other? I would like one partition to be one seagate 1.5TB HD, and the 2nd partition to be the other, that way if one fails I have a backup (using Time Machine with one partition to backup the other 1.5TB drive).

OS X :: Partitioning Startup Disk (For Installing Panther)

Jun 24, 2010

I've been looking through Google for help on this but I'm really failing. I've been wanting to partition my startup disc on my Emac (which is running Tiger) so I can have a Panther partition and a Tiger partition. I have many reasons for doing so, but I don't really want to go through that right now.

I tried going to Disk Utility, but apparently, the startup disk cant be partitioned while I'm on it. I'm a new mac user, so I am having difficulty figuring out how to partition my 40GB harddrive to have one 10GB volume that Panther can go to. From what I hear, I have to partition using an OSX disc, and then reinstall Tiger and then I can install Panther. Please tell me there's a simpler way. I really don't want to go through reinstalling Tiger again.
