If I log into Windows as a normal user (not administrator) and open the Boot Camp Control Panel, I'll be missing the Startup Disk pane. The only ones available are Brightness, Keyboard and Trackpad.
Is there any way to get the startup disk tab to appear while logged in as a normal user? I don't like the idea of having to run as an administrator all the time in Windows.
I recently realized that I no longer have the Startup Disk preference pane in the Preference Panel. I sometimes boot from other drives and now I'm forced to hold down the option key at restart or startup instead of being able to select the startup drive through the Startup Disk pane.

I have a macpro with OSX on one drive and windows 7 on a partition of another drive. Both systems work fine and I boot into windows by holding the option key down. What is odd is if I go to the system preferences startup disk my windows install does not show up. I did move my windows partition a while ago to a new drive. I used bootcamp to create the partition and winclone to move the data. It's not a big deal not having the option in the preference pain but would be nice. If I am in windows and go to the bootcamp control panel both OS X and Windows are there.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought this c2d macbook pro 15'' in early 2007. Today I installed windows 7 on it (bootcamp 2.1). Everything worked perfect except the screen brightness control. The strongest level is very bright (same as the one in Mac), but the second level is very dim. I remember having this problem back in 2007 when I installed winxp on my mac. Looks like the problem still exists. Anyone here knows how to fix it?
View 1 Replies View Relatedas the title says, I have Win 7 x64 (RTM through MSDN at school) and everything works great, except for when I reboot the machine, the Boot Camp tray app is not rebooting with the machine. I have made sure that all of the Boot Camp services are on within Windows, but this is driving me nuts. I have read on the Apple Support Forums that some people think it has to do with VM Ware Fusion, (which I have) but the problem is not related. I have done a new install of Win 7 and didn't configure VM Ware tools, so that rules it out for me. I do know for a fact that the problem is not apparent on a unit that I was working on earlier today (at work, iMac, Vista, SL, x64) and everything worked fine after rebooting (and tray icon came up on that unit).
I did have Leopard with Win 7 RC x64 working flawlessly...
I just installed Windows 7 on my MBP. When I inserted my SL disc, I did not see an option for Boot Camp. All I saw were two things asking about Remote Mac OS X install and some Disc sharing. Something as if my MBP was a MacBook Air.

Actually I have some sort of annoyance with boot camp. It works as it's intended (with windows 7, which is a miracle, because everyone complains about that combination). But whenever I boot up and press "alt" to select the hard drive i want to boot, it always shows Windows. Can i change it for something else? and, how can I do it? Both of my partitions have names of their own... they're not generic... but still, they are not working, what can I do??
Whenever I hold Alt at startup and then select Windows the computer seems to freeze for about a minute and then starts loading windows. While it is frozen I can't move the mouse cursor and nothing seems to be happening.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install Win 7 through Boot Camp, everytime it gets to installing at 1% I get an error message. Windows cannot installed required files. Files missing or Corrupt 0x80070570. What I've tried:
- Using 32 Bit instead of 64 Bit Windows
- Burning both at low speeds (Disk Utilities and IMGBurn)
- Tried installing XP then doing an upgrade to Win 7, but only have XP Upgrade and eject key doesn't work during installation when prompted for older version verification.
Anyone experinced or heard of this before?

I have two drives for my mini, one in use and one in an external case; unfortunately, neither have room for everything plus Windows. View 4 Replies View RelatedHave had boot camp working just how I wanted it (default boot into W7) since day 1, but have just had a problem! All of a sudden, the MBP boots into OSX by default. If I hold option (alt), I do have the option to boot into windows, but under disk utility in OSX, it cant see my W7 partition! Even when I boot into W7 manually, boot camp control panel only has OSX as the only boot disk! I have searched and returned a few instances of this, but all have the complication of people using NTFS tools, I havnt done that.

I am trying to install Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my MacBook Pro purchased late 2011 and running Lion. The Windows software was purchased online and downloaded. I then copied the .iso file to a dvd. When I try and install Windows through Boot Camp it doesn't recognize that there is a disk in the drive to install Windows. I sure hope I didn't waste my money. Has anyone installed Windows 7 from a OEM download?

In retrospect, I should have ignored it when Apple Software Update told me about the Boot Camp 3.2 upgrade for my 2006 Mac Pro running x64 Win 7 ultimate. When I ran it, it overwrote my blue tooth driver and my keyboard stopped working. Thanks for the folks at Mac Rumors forums, I was able to go through the procedure to get it working again, and I also had to update the video driver (again) from ATI for my 3800.
So then I decide to reboot into MacOS and discover that my icon for selecting the boot disk was gone, not to mention any directory or programs in the start menu. This happen to anyone else? Do I have to downgrade to 3.1 or does anyone have a recommendation to get 3.2 working?
As title says. I can no longer hold option to boot into bootcamp (fairly old issue - I tihnk it's my keyboard), so I just use startup disc preference pane. Today, Windows does not show up. I downloaded bootchamp and it also gave me an error when trying to restart....any ideas at all? I can't do anything with the bootcamp partition in the disc utility.
EDIT: Opening the bootcamp assistant gives me :""Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used: You must update your computer's boot ROM firmware before using this setup assistant".
Note I was in win7 earlier today without issue....
In my attempt to install Windows XP via Boot Camp, I accidentally inserted an SP1 disc instead of the SP2 disc that I have. The installation proceeded to the point where it does for most who attempt this: the screen where you are prompted to press ENTER. I could not proceed and therefore restarted the iMac and held down the mouse button upon start-up to remove the CD.
HERE IS THE PROBLEM:I can not boot into OS X because the keyboard shortcuts (those that might allow me to select which partition to boot from and/or reset PRAM) seem to be disabled. Instead, a reboot always ends at a black screen with a blinking DOS-esque cursor, or the prompt: "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key."
I have attempted inserting my SP2 disc at this point, to no avail. My keyboard seems to be disabled, as if the SP1 install proceeded just enough to establish itself as the boot drive without drivers for the keyboard. I've tried using all 3 USB ports, disconnecting other USB devices. Oddly, my bluetooth mouse works to eject the CD on reboot...
Boot camp went wrong because I had to reboot my macbook while windows 7 was being installed. After that, I deleted the 32gb windows partition. But guess what? Disk utility says that my free space is 468 gb, when before boot camp I had 493gb.

My 2007 iMac with Leopard froze up yesterday and it looks like I need a new hard-drive.But I thought I'd try to follow the support info to reboot it with the startup disk so that I could try to backup the files.I inserted the disk, pressed C on startup, and worked my way to disk utilities.I clicked on the Macintosh HD on the left side and clicked "repair disk." and after a couple minutes I got an error message saying that the repair failed.Ok, so then I stopped, but then noticed that the "Macintosh HD" on the left side is now in grey color print. And when I click on it, it looks like there is 0 bytes on it.Did I just lose my entire hard-drive?? Please tell me that there is some hope. I was having problems with backing up my info onto my WD Mybook through TimeMachine, so it's been over a year since that was last done. I am merely trying to retrieve files from the last year from my hard-drive before I have a new one installed. I'm dropping off the computer in the morning with an Apple 3rd party consultant to try and retrieve what he can from my hard-drive. I just want to know if I just made things worse.

I have a white macBook (10.7.3, 250g HD) which has begun to behave in an odd way and which I have so far failed to resolve.
First I got a message saying very little disk space left - only 420MB which is strange because I knew the HD to be far from full. The beach ball gave me very little access to the Finder but I was eventually able to empty safari cache which gave me 6Gb.
Checking the root disk folder sizes showed that only 130gb was listed in the various folders but the status bar showed that only 6gb out of 250gb was available. I tried to start up from an external USB disk (no Firewire on this machine, sadly) but the laptop refused to starup from it - tried cable in both USB ports, disk is GUID formatted. I shut down the computer - had to force shutdown with power key as unresponsive to Finder command.
On restarting I got a message about forced shutdown etc but status bar now says 40gb available (when there should be over 100gb). I was able to select external USB drive in Startup preferences but machine will not startup ffrom external drive.
Disk Utility reports no problems with internal drive. I want to use Disk Warrior but cannot find cd, hence attempt to startup from external drive. Cannot even check disk while running DW from internal disk as it says prefs file corrupted or write protected. Trashing it (as suggested) makes no difference as new prefs file still unusable.
I have a TM backup but don't really want to use it if it is likely to have the same corruption.Also, why is the USB disk not starting up the Machine? Only thing I can think of is to do an archive/install of Lion, but is the bloating in the system or are ther some hidden files somewhere which won't be changed?

I created a Boot Camp Partition (an entire drive, actually) and installed XP. The install went off without a hitch ... Except, having rebooted to Mac OS X (10.6.1) there is no way to boot Windows again. Going to Preferences->Boot Disk shows no Book Camp bootable drive.
This is the 1st time i got a Mac , i bought a black Macbook 2.4GHz some days ago .
I installed Windows Vista Ultimate using Boot Camp , and all went smoothly .
Only 1 prob is when restarting , i have to wait too long for the Windows to log on , i think about 1min with the black screen.
And if i want to boot in Mac OS , i have to push down the D button or the Alt, it takes quite a long time too .
So do you guys have any solution to this problem ? I want to get rid of the waiting time, way too much.
And do you know how to make my Macbook jump right in the choosing section when it starts ? ( so that i dont have to push down any button when it starts )
