MacBook Pro :: Boot Camp Won't Recognize Windows 7 Install Disk?
Jun 13, 2012I am trying to install Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my MacBook Pro purchased late 2011 and running Lion. The Windows software was purchased online and downloaded. I then copied the .iso file to a dvd. When I try and install Windows through Boot Camp it doesn't recognize that there is a disk in the drive to install Windows. I sure hope I didn't waste my money. Has anyone installed Windows 7 from a OEM download?

Oct 22, 2009Is it possible to install Windows 7 on an internal disk via Boot Camp and then remove this disk and use it as an external drive? I have two drives for my mini, one in use and one in an external case; unfortunately, neither have room for everything plus Windows. If the answer to this question is no, then I'll buy a bigger drive. I'd just like to avoid this if possible (I already have a ton of external drives and not enough ports to plug them into).

Jul 14, 2010Have had boot camp working just how I wanted it (default boot into W7) since day 1, but have just had a problem! All of a sudden, the MBP boots into OSX by default. If I hold option (alt), I do have the option to boot into windows, but under disk utility in OSX, it cant see my W7 partition! Even when I boot into W7 manually, boot camp control panel only has OSX as the only boot disk! I have searched and returned a few instances of this, but all have the complication of people using NTFS tools, I havnt done that.

Jul 18, 2010I deleted my Boot Camp partition in Disk Utility (as usual, Windows wasn't working and wouldn't fix). I resized my Macintosh HD partition to cover the whole drive and repartitioned. Now Disk Utility says that the partition's capacity is 160 GB and that I've used 40 GB and that 70 GB is available. My Boot Camp partition was 50 GB. I've read that to fix it I have to boot from my install DVD, go to Disk Utility, set the number of partitions to one, and delete the entire drive so that there's zero data left. Then I'd reinstall OS X and restore from a Time Machine backup. As of now, I have no external hard drive.

Feb 4, 2010I'm building a custom computer that I would like to run both OSX and Windows 7 on. At the moment I am trying to decide between installing 1 2TB hard drive or 2 1TB hard drives. I would preferably do the latter since I would like each OS to be on its own drive. OSX will be my primary OS. If I go for the 2 drive option they will be 2 seperate drives, not in a RAID config. Getting OSX onto the machine is simple enough for me if not a little roundabout. My main concern is Windows 7. Will bootcamp allow me to install Windows to it's own dedicated drive without having to partition the OSX drive? In my case would I even need to use bootcamp? Would holding down the "alt" key as done with bootcamp detect a second bootable disk even if Windows was not installed through bootcamp?

Oct 14, 2010Running a 2010 MBP Core i5 2.4GHz. I had Windows 7 originally installed. Gave me wireless problems and I gave up. Erased the partition. Installed Windows XP and everything was fine.
I got a new copy of W7 Professional x64. I installed it "over" the existing XP, though it erased the partition anyways (I don't care about that).The new 7 install has been giving me the same wireless problems. I downloaded and installed the Broadcom driver. Gave me a BSOD and restarted the computer. Now I have a BSOD on start up, too. On the OSX side of things, it no longer shows any Boot Camp hard drive. It doesn't recognize it at all. Though when I hold the option key on boot, it still shows the Windows install.
1. How do I fix the BSOD problem? (All caused by installing the driver)
2. Where the heck is the Boot Camp hard drive/partition?
Windows On Mac :: Getting Hard Drive Space Back - After Deleting Boot Camp Partition
Dec 27, 2009I recently got rid of a partition I had made for bootcamp since I never use it, and would rather have the space back. I deleted the partition through disc utility, and then through the partition tab, tried to get back that space by dragging down the tab to restore the space originally set for the partition. When I go to apply this change, it notifies that my hard drive will be re-sized. I accept and then a few minutes later it comes back with the error "Partition failed with the error: Filesystem verify or repair failed" Does anybody know how I can restore this space successfully back into my main hard drive? Nov 21, 2010In retrospect, I should have ignored it when Apple Software Update told me about the Boot Camp 3.2 upgrade for my 2006 Mac Pro running x64 Win 7 ultimate. When I ran it, it overwrote my blue tooth driver and my keyboard stopped working. Thanks for the folks at Mac Rumors forums, I was able to go through the procedure to get it working again, and I also had to update the video driver (again) from ATI for my 3800.
So then I decide to reboot into MacOS and discover that my icon for selecting the boot disk was gone, not to mention any directory or programs in the start menu. This happen to anyone else? Do I have to downgrade to 3.1 or does anyone have a recommendation to get 3.2 working?

Background:
I've got an MCE Optibay in my Mid-2010 i7 MBP. When installing Bootcamp it refuses to install from the external USB DVD drive. In the end I pulled the 2nd HDD out and reconnected the internal DVD. It then worked fine without a hitch. Then I reinstalled the 2nd HDD and all was fine for a few days.
Now I want to resize my Win7 partition (bigger, as MS Visual Studio's bigger than I thought, and I might stick some games on). I can shrink the OSX partition fine with Disk Utility, but windows won't grow the Win7 one because the empty space is before the Win7 partition, not after it. Apparently this can be done with GParted. Guess what? I can't boot the Linux based GParted CDROM from the external USB DVD drive! So, will a Firewire one work where USB fails, and solve my alternative OS booting issues? If I buy one I can then either use GParted, or delete the Win7 partition and start again without having to pull the laptop to bits all over again, only to put it back once I'm done, and possibly have the same issues in the future. Obviously I don't want to blow extra money getting a Firewire DVD drive though if it's a waste of money...

Sep 20, 2009If I log into Windows as a normal user (not administrator) and open the Boot Camp Control Panel, I'll be missing the Startup Disk pane. The only ones available are Brightness, Keyboard and Trackpad.
Is there any way to get the startup disk tab to appear while logged in as a normal user? I don't like the idea of having to run as an administrator all the time in Windows.

Mar 24, 2008I'm planning on making myself some icons (in particular, a volume icon with the windows flag and one with the leopard X, to differentiate between them on my desktop) and with a bit of googling, found that *most* of the system icons were in System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle although one particular icon that wasn't there was the hard disk icon that is on the desktop.
Does anybody know where this icon would be? (And any other common system ones that are not in CoreTypes.bundle)
Windows On Mac :: Possibly Fatal Boot Camp Error / Unable To Boot Windows
Jul 14, 2009In my attempt to install Windows XP via Boot Camp, I accidentally inserted an SP1 disc instead of the SP2 disc that I have. The installation proceeded to the point where it does for most who attempt this: the screen where you are prompted to press ENTER. I could not proceed and therefore restarted the iMac and held down the mouse button upon start-up to remove the CD.
HERE IS THE PROBLEM:I can not boot into OS X because the keyboard shortcuts (those that might allow me to select which partition to boot from and/or reset PRAM) seem to be disabled. Instead, a reboot always ends at a black screen with a blinking DOS-esque cursor, or the prompt: "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key."
I have attempted inserting my SP2 disc at this point, to no avail. My keyboard seems to be disabled, as if the SP1 install proceeded just enough to establish itself as the boot drive without drivers for the keyboard. I've tried using all 3 USB ports, disconnecting other USB devices. Oddly, my bluetooth mouse works to eject the CD on reboot...

Jan 12, 2010I've installed and reinstalled xp and vista on bootcamp. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. The forums don't help either.
The drivers are all recognized. The only sounds I hear are the noise when windows boots up, and a clicking noise when I mute or unmute the computer. Nothing else. Anybody have any suggestions? Please help

I am familiar with Ghost on the PC side but is there a software that will CLONE my Mac partition and Windows partition all in the same process? When i go to Disk Mangement in Vista, it recognizes four partitions. 1 for vista and the other 3 for Mac.
MacBook Pro :: Hard Drive And Boot Camp Performance
Feb 4, 2010I just recently upgraded my Santa Rosa Macbook Pro's hard drive to a Western Digital 320GB 7200RPM drive. So far it's working great. After I installed the hard drive I ran a benchmark (xBench, newest version) and my score was around 128-133 on average.I went ahead and installed Windows 7 via Boot Camp. Everything's working great. Bit later I ran xBench again. My scores tanked (specifically in the hard drive department). Overall score is around 80 now. What the hell happened? Could the partition/Windows 7 install caused an issue? I've ran Disk Utility and the drive is reporting that it's okay. And in terms of actually using it (opening programs, etc) it seems just as snappy.
